Bad Trader: ClayMathieu

Really don’t want to start one of these, but not sure where else to post this so here goes. This is not necessarily a bad trader per se, but a bad proxy, and basically just want to give everyone a heads up on trader ClayMathieu, and be careful in dealings with him.

I posted in early December, looking for a proxy for Funky Buddah and their Morning Wood release box, which took place the weekend of January 15. This was 4 (4) packs of 4 diff beers. ClayMathieu (CM) agreed to pick up for me and mail in exchange for some ty beers of my choice.

Since agreeing to pick up the beers, communication has been poor on his part imo. As the pickup wkd approached I had to message him more than once to verify he’d still grab them for me. Eventually he responded saying he’d gotten Covid the week before, but would have his friend who worked there pick them up the Monday after release (Jan 17). Fine. Apparently this happened as I received an email from Funky Buddah my order had been completed, although I had to message a few days later to confirm with him. He agreed to get them packed up and ship asap. At this point I told him to just confirm with me before shipping due to cold temps.

About two weeks later, and hearing from him, On Feb 7, I messaged him asking if the box was ready to go as the next few days looked warmer to ship. I got no response. I again messaged him on Feb 12, and on Feb 13 he responded saying he would ship the next day, Monday the 14th. He asked if I wanted to send him a label or just reimburse for shipping. I responded right away saying either was fine, but if he wanted a label just let me know box dimensions. I did not hear back.

On the 15th, (now a month since the release pickup) I asked if he got the box out, and got no response. I messaged again on the 18th, and again no response. I again messaged this past Thursday and again no response. I’ve been monitoring when he’s been active and did not look like he was since saying he’d ship on the 14th….until today. His last post was a FT/ISO on the 14th, the same day he said he’d ship, and never responded to wanting a label or reimbursement. Again, he signed on this morning it looks like, and I’ve gotten no messages from him, since Feb 13.

I know, it’s not a typical “trade” but I do think this is post worthy as proxy’s are a thing now on BA, and at the very least should be a red flag on this trader.

No I have not heard from him since Feb 13th. Unfortunately no, I have no other way to contact him. During our conversations I did ask him at least twice for his address to send ty beers to, but he did not provide it. The beers I purchased and he picked up we’re $70

Lol my fault? How the hell am I supposed to vet him? Everyone is a new trader at some point. Had it been a regular trade I would’ve made him ship first and all, but not sure what else I could have done here. I needed a proxy and he literally was the only one that responded

 

Update: another kind BA reached out to me this morning and sent me what is 99% probable his FB profile. From that it appears he either works at or is closely connected to a small brewery in Florida.

This morning I 1.) sent him an email, 2.) sent him a FB message, and 3.) sent a FB message to the brewery. I have yet to hear back from either of these. However it’s more ways to contact him and he can’t claim “oh I don’t log into BA often so I didn’t know”

Will update if I hear back from any of these things

FWIW…I have not heard back from any FB or Emails to ClayMathieu or the brewery.

@treznor i understand what your saying….but Facebook is 100% public and searchable by anyone. There is not a signal personal thing about Facebook or your profile.

 

Thanks @William_Navidson for the additional insight. Clay is clearly a POS and has no business being allowed in the beer trading communities.

@sjguglielmo feel free to message me or post here some of those groups he’s in. I’ll put him on blast no problem. Dude needs called out as publicly as possible. I plan to call his brewery today when they open at noon. If he or others don’t like it oh well….don’t be a piece of shit.

This community is amazing though as @BlackToothGrin has GENEROUSLY offered to send me some of the beers Clay failed to send, abs wants nothing for them. Amazing gesture!
