I did an "around the world" crawl at Epcot and, guess what? It included an extended stay in Germany for Spaten Optimator.

NOW we're back on track!

    Never heard of that one.

I plan to resume my personal Starkbierzeit tomorrow -- stay tuned!

It has been slim pickins this year. Lots of Dopplebocks, little else. Gotta widen the search.

Doppelbocks work -- they're what Starkbierzeit is all about.

Which is not to say a Maibock or Traditional Bock, here and there, isn't a worthy imbiber.

Edit: I see that @steveh beat me to it.

That's what a starkbier is--or what is the traditional offering for these celebrations/events. I may post a couple more, and they will all be doppelbocks.

Ah, been reading the Joe Styleman thread on the Northeast forum I see?

    Beautiful mug!

Read your review…it was akin to a Nut Brown Ale?

    Ok, ok, I get it.

Yeah, with the strong nut flavors. A very sweet Nut Brown Ale. I also said it, “...lacks much of what I would expect from a Bock.” Not a favorite, still tasty.

Tonight I went with an Aecht Schlenkerla Eiche due to some rain and chilly temperatures. And the green label  (OK.... maybe not for that). I have had this one many times before. A nice sipper while watching some Last Kingdom episodes. (and some Star Trek episodes too)

I keep meaning to try that but I haven't seen it in a while. Given its abv is it like drinking a maibock?

    At 14%? :grimacing:

"Blonde" Doppelbock, to steal a term from a certain Midwest brewmaster.

Ya, Samichlaus Helles is more like a Triple (or quad?) Blonde Bock. I don't taste much of a floral hop note to it. I have fresh Capital Blonde Dopplebock in stock. I might try that tonight. It would be hard to do a head to head maybe since Samichlaus Helles is so strong.

Capital brought back the Blonde Doppelbock?

How's the new brewmaster doing? Did he solve the diacetyl problem?
