A review from the hotel room!

Loreni by Triptych Brewing, a Pale Lager (Could not find ABV on can).

I enjoyed this beer quite a bit, although it is outside the normal realm of what I would buy. I wouldn't buy this beer all that frequently, but that's not because it is a bad beer, it is just a bit outside of my usual preferences. The hops are more present than I would prefer with the style, and it comes off a bit dry for me.

Smell: Stale hops, stale AAL beer, old used socks, Onion, Slight pine.

Taste: a bit like an AAL with a Czech pilsner hop backdrop (which makes sense based on the hops used). Not familiar with pale lagers to know if this is typical for the style, or a riff on a "classic".

Color: The photo speaks for itself. I'd call it somewhere between yellow con, pale straw with a hint of pinesol and pale green pea.

Overall: A good beer that seems to achieve what is is striving for.

I haven't put it into BA yet (that's next), but I'd give this a 4.3ish to style (although I am no expert on style). Enjoyment: I'd give it closer to a 3.9.

Interestingly, I posted the first full review of this beer. Hooray.

Alright, last one for the evening for me. This is Trimtab Brewing - Language of Thunder - Cumulus. This is my first beer from Alabama which will allow me to tick off my 46th state.

Pours pitch black, completely opaque, and somewhat viscous. Thinnish, mocha colored head shows weak retention. Ultimately there is just a thin ring of foam along the outside of the top of the beer. The aroma has notes of oak, roasted malts, moderate hoppy notes, some light cocoa and vanilla notes. The aroma is kind of bland.

The flavor profile is much more complex than the nose would imply. The profile brings with it roasted malts, maple, coconut, bourbon, and oak. There are notes of chocolate, vanilla, and some light earthy hops. Although it does have both vanilla and toasted coconut in it, its is utilized sparingly with balance. The flavors are there, but in such a way that compliments the base stout rather than dominating it. My biggest complaint is that the barrel presence in this is really subdued. I want more of that oak and bourbon coming through in the profile. Feel is fuller bodied, smooth, with a slight warming sensation. Moderately carbonated. Semi-dry on the finish.

Overall it is a very solid barrel aged beer.

    look: 3.75 | smell: 3.75 | taste: 4 | feel: 4.25 | overall: 4 = 3.95 (rDev -8.4%)
