What beer are you drinking now? #3454

Had my final one a couple months ago. Definitely a shell of itself. Maple does not age well (turns into a generic sweetness)

Starting my drinking day with a nice black lager from our friends at Wooly Pig Farm Brewery.....need to head back down there soon, as my stash of 2 cases I bought in Feb is almost gone!! Zonkers!

A chilly, snowy and rainy morning. It's a good thing, cause our moisture level is way low and we have red flag fire warnings for the Black Hills.

I'm enjoying an IPA from Breakside.

I haven’t this beer in forever…I got a six today because it was the freshest IPA on the shelf (Feb. 24/Chicago). Tastes really good and exactly what I like … sad that I get fresher IPA from Alaska through Tavour than I can get at my local Publix (Jai Alai I’m looking at you )…

Mrs. Z is in Tampa getting her eyebrows tattooed (don’t ask, apparently it’s a thing that happens every 3 or 4 years), and I’m picking up the house because our housekeeper is coming any minute…Cheers y’all!

Post lunch, post pre house cleaning cleaning, relaxing with a beauty in my office whilst the real cleaning happens - Revolution’s “Maple Jacket” a BBA Barleywine aged with maple:



Canned 12/6/21. Poured at 58°. Deep amber with excellent clarity; fizzy off white head; no cap retention, thinnest of thin rings, no lace; medium thick legs on swirl. Strong maple syrup nose. Sweet ! maple syrup; Caramel candy; very little bourbon presence; sweet candy finish. Smooth feel, heavy minus body; light carbonation; mouth warmth from 14.5% abv; no perceived alcohol in flavor or burn on tongue. Overall this beer is cloyingly sweet; the sugar/maple overpowers the whole; I like sweet beers, and I like this beer, but it’s out of balance - there’s no bitter hops for an English-style BW, no bourbon from the barrel aging and the caramel base is in a foot race with the maple sugar bomb to see which can be the sweetest at the fair…I don’t think aging will improve this beer. I’d like to see this beer again in the future if the brewers dial back the maple, and if using bourbon barrels, then highlight the bourbon.
