And that makes sense to me. My guess is that Modelo Negra is mostly Pale Malt, a healthy amount of corn and then 'something' to provide the color. Maybe they use Sinamar for the coloring? Or perhaps a small addition of dark crystal malt? Or both?

The fact that this beer was brewed with Vienna Malt will add malt character/depth to the beer.

    Cheers!

Sam Adam's greatest of ale time. Great nedipa. Aromas and flavors of red grapefruit, orange, pineapple, peach, mango, melon, berry, citrus peel/rind, pepper, pine, wheat, biscuit, herbal, floral, grass. Med pine rind bitter. Creamy bready med plus body. Lingering sticky resin drying. Mild warmth and hop burn of 7%. Big on Simcoe hop character. 4

...damn, that beer sounds good...I always thought chilies and dark beers paired nicely...the fact that chilies used are on the high side of the Scoville Scale really sounds nice (like Twisted Pine's 'Ghost Face Killah' - not a dark beer, but definitely using hot chili peppers)...

Sam Adam's stoney brook. Tastes like a big English Spiced stout. Strong coffee, nuts, molasses, dark chocolate, cocoa, dark bread/crust, raisin, fig, date, smoke, licorice, herbal, grass, pepper; yeast earthiness. Lt med hop/char bitter. Creamy/silky full body. Lt slick sticky/chalky drying. Mild warmth of 8.5%. Very English style imperial.

The ladies who own the local pub managed to get a couple of cases of Trillium this week; I got a 2+2…unless I trade for this brewery’s beers, my friends and I otherwise rarely see it in SWFL - let’s go! - Citra Cutting Tiles, single hopped DIPA with raw wildflower honey:

Poured at 52°. Hazy pale gold with clarity around the edges; fast fizzy white head; thin ring; poor cap retention; spots of lace with movement. Weedy grapefruit nose. Semi sweet, somewhat dank grapefruit taste; firm malt base; no bitterness. Medium full; not fluffy, but definitely filling juicy body; moderate minus carbonation; no astringency; no warmth from 8.5% abv. Overall well balanced and drinkable and tasty; I’d prefer some bitterness in my IPA, and there’s more heft here than I want in an IPA; still, I could drink a pint or two.

    Fuerst Wiacek - Dream #9 / Dream #10

New England IPAs with Citra and Mosaic hops, from Germany (6.8%).

"Dream #9 & Dream #10 have both been dry-hopped with Citra and Mosaic. This time around we’re tinkering with the ratios of naked to standard oats in the mash, where Dream #10 has the higher percentage of standard oats."

Pours a hazy, bright orange coloration with a medium, fluffy head. Smells of light biscuity malt and citrus/tropical hops, with notes of tangerine and papaya.

Taste is a great balance of light biscuity malt and fruity, juicy, slightly grassy and dank hops, with citrus and tropical notes of tangerine, grapefruit and papaya, as well as just a hint of grassy weed. Finishes with a light/medium bitterness and some tangerine and papaya lingering in the aftertaste. Soft mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.

I though that having Dream #9 and #10 together might make for an interesting side-by-side, but to be honest, these both taste and feel more or less exactly the same to me. Sure, the difference is is the oats only, but there's no significant difference in mouthfeel that I can tell either, with the #10 feeling perhaps just a tad fuller, but certainly not significantly so.

Apart from that, these make for a pretty good NEIPA, although I certainly had better from Fuerst Wiacek. There's a good, zesty juiciness to this, but the hops could still feel a little more vibrant and well-defined for my personal taste, with the #10 possibly feeling a tad more vibrant as well. Overall, these make for tasty, but not exceptional NEIPAs, which the mouthfeel not feeling outstanding for either of them.

Well, the Mariners achieved a come-from-behind victory over the Twinkers this afternoon, 4-3. Undefeated baby!!!!!

A new one from what I think is the best brewery in my town, Wander. Idle Canyons is a collab with Yakima chief Hops and single Hill Brewery, and uses HBC586, Columbus, and Simcoe hops: https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/34416/598145/

Postimages seems to be down, so no pic.

Next up is Extra Vanilla Double Milkshake IPA from Tired Hands. I think a few NBW posters have tried this beer recently, and enjoyed it more than I. I don't dislike it, but I much preferred the Dark Mild I had a little bit ago. Some of this comes down to style preference, I'm sure.

Pour is a glowing, bright, apricot orange. A decent amount of medium density white head with ok retention and moderate lacing. Nose has strong creamsicle vibes with general tropical fruits and a hint of vanilla.

Taste is sweet with a little bit of bite from the hops on the finish. Oddly I'm not getting much vanilla, just some general tropical notes. It's solid, but certainly doesn't blow me away. Feel is the highlight. Full and creamy.

    Good Afternoon NBWers

Well I seemed to like this one a bit more than @Roy_Hobbs who sent it to me...

    Double Milkshake IPA- Extra Vanilla

Pours a turbid golden orange. Fluffy white head abounds. Fantastic puffy retention. Scattered layers of of sticky lacing.
Aromas of vanilla-tinged orange cream soda. Reminds me of Nesbitt's with a bit of vanilla ice cream. Mild grassy notes come in as well.
Flavors have everything the nose hinted at and more. Soft and creamy. Mildly sweet, yet a hint of pithy grapefruit tapers back the sugar. This really is a delightful drink.
Mouthfeel is fluffy and creamy at the same time. Finish has a lovely transition from the fluff to a slight, gristy feel that is mildly bitter.
Overall, loving this. The vanilla has a light touch and I am thankful for that.

Another new beer thanks to @beergoot this lovely Saturday.

This is Homesitting, a 5.2% ABV pilsner from Outer Range Brewing.

It's a lovely, crisp, and balanced pilsner: bitter, grassy, peppery, but with a nice presentation of pilsner malt. I like it quite a bit, albeit less than the best American craft pilsners. Perhaps I also simply favor Czech-style pilsners. Full thoughts in the review below.

After a few days sans beer due to a nagging cold, I thought I’d ease myself back in with this low ABV lager from Burdock called Bloor Lighter

    (Postimage isn’t working for me…)

Pours a very pale straw yellow. About as pale a beer as I’ve ever seen. Bubbly. Considerable lacing.

Hints of noble hops on the nose. Light grains. Maybe a little lemon.

Mild biscuit. Very muted noble hops on the tongue. This is exceptionally mild in flavour, but doesn’t taste ‘watered down, or unfinished.

    Very light body. Moderate carbonation.

This is good for what it is. I have a better option locally at 1.5% ABV that packs more flavour and a bigger body. That said, this is something I’d drink again.

IIRC, that beer won a blind beer festival contest here in St. Paul.

(This blind festival was an unusual idea that they only did a couple of before the governor shut everything down. The festival had only one style of beer and none of them were identified by name or brewer. The attendees sampled and voted. As I said, IIRC, this beer won the hazy IPA festival. They also had one other - a Märzen festival I think.)

Anyhow, this one winning led me to buy a pack.

What is interesting to me is that the very reasons you list for really liking the beer (I underlined above) was also the very reason I did NOT like it! Vive la différence, ay? :beers:

Here's my review, if you're interested.
