That lighting gives that beer the craziest looking color...Perfect night for a fire in NJ, I just came in from mine. This is my favorite time for warm weather; warm enough during the day but nice and cool at night. I'm soaking it all up before the humidity of summer returns :sob:

The color is definitely weird in any lighting. Good beer though. And yeah, perfect fire pit weather. Spring and fall are the best for that cold but not too cold nights.

OK, Ok... I'm answering that deep guilt trip about Poobahs (ergh) reviewing more.
I do so when I find a beer that is ... worth reviewing and that isn't just another run-of-the-mill X type of beer.
So without further ado, I give you.

EVIL ORANGE CAT. Fat Orange Cat Brewing DIPA. 9%

L - Slightly unfiltered golden orb look toooooo this - sticky lacing up top, good head if poured properly. Nice.
S- An interesting combo of honey, hops, melon, cat-pee (in a good way!), and a complex malt layering. Almost a baked to brown bread note on a big DIPA that is really intriguing. Overriding all of this is an interesting mandarin orange peel whiff that.... ugh. Yes.
T - Where this beer sings; to my humble mind and opinion, THIS is what Hopslam and Waldo's could be - balanced, holding the line between the ABV sweetness without cloy, and a good hop forward complexity with a malt backbone that is just bakery deep. More citrus on that back end? Yes.
F - Good carbonation, but not nauseatingly gassy, and good palate attack with ZERO hotness detected.
O - this is one of my favorite beers of 2022 and I hope the collab gets revisited. Fantastic stuff.

Time for round #2, and another I picked up today in southern, MN. I also had to add it to the system.

Limited Batch 005: Jasmine Rice Lager - August Schell Brewing - 4.8% ABV (25 IBU)

I really don't think I have an amazing palate, compared to others here, and even close friends. That all being said, I get some interesting flavors in this beer. I like it, but, I feel my review doesn't do justice to it. Oh, well.

Purchased as a 6 pack at Hy Vee Liquor in New Ulm.
This beer pours a clear golden color, with a 2 finger white head. The head retention is decent, and there's a bit of lacing on the glass.
The nose is, well, I'm not quite sure what I'm getting. I get some grain/malt, but, I also am getting something I can't put my nose on.
Taste - There is a decent malt bill here. Grain, earthy. I also get a bit of "heat", but not hot/spicy. is it from the jasmine rice? I'd wager so.
Body is light and crisp. Quite easy drinking.

I think I'm done with new beers for today, but, I may be back tomorrow with more.

Lovely golden orange body; cloudy; thick head, white and sculpted and long lasting. An interesting aroma; like a sage / cucumber mix; faint bit of citrus. The taste follows along the lines of the smell; stronger sense of cucumber rind bitterness; biscuit-like malt flavor. Heavy body; moderate acidity; somewhat juicy, somewhat dry on the palate.

All I can say is the smell and taste are weird. I don't recall tasting anything like this. If there is supposed to be a stronger citrus presence, it's missing in this sample. If anything, the hop profile seems like some weird combination of Motueka and Nelson Savin hops. Motueka has never thrilled me, but Nelson Savin can be very interesting. Still, there must be a reason it (currently) has a 100 score on BA, but I certainly don't understand it.

Pastel colored, murky and dirty yellow body; thin yet lasting white head. Not much aroma per se; some oat-like notes yet difficult to pick up much of anything else. Rock-solid taste; biscuit with elements of dull citrus; a bit of lemon and white grapefruit; very satisfying bitterness balances things out. Heavy body; thick and velvety; smooth; slight alcohol heat; mildly sharp.

Overall, a rich, satisfying New England style India pale ale, balanced and mildly boozy.

Next up is Chocolate Porter from Big Lake Brewing. Compliments of @Whyteboar in BIF 15. This wasn't in the database, so I added it.

Poured from a can at fridge temp. Pours black with light brown head. The nose is fantastic. Tons of chocolate, lactose, vanilla, ice cream, a touch of roasted malts, and some nice dark fruit. Maybe a touch of mocha. However, the main thrust of the nose is chocolate.

The taste is nice. The chocolate isn't as dominant on the taste. This showcases the roasted malts a bit more. Coffee grounds, tobacco, leather. Dark chocolate, vanilla, walnuts, tree bark. Maybe a touch of coconut and brown sugar. My only complaint is that the taste seems a tad watered down compared to the nose.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied. Not too thick, not too thin. Overall, a really nice beer.

To give you some context - that beer is a Münster Altbier and that is a different style of beer than the more common Dusseldorf Altbier. When folks talk about Altbier, or when you read a description of Altbier, it’s always Dusseldorf Altbier (which does not have that sourness).

Next up is Triple Stout from Tripel Root in Michigan. Compliments of @Whyteboar in BIF 15. Added to database.

2020 vintage and 16% ABV. Poured from a can at fridge temp. Pours a fairly thin black. Very thin layer of light tan head. The nose is chocolate, vanilla, bourbon, coffee, blackberries, and maple. Really nice!

The taste is amazing. Super intense. Boozy. Chocolate, bourbon, vanilla, coffee grounds, and lots of dark fruit. Maple, black licorice, roasted malts, and fudge. A bit of ice cream. Really nice.

Mouthfeel is fairly thick, despite it looking a bit thin. It's big and boozy, and full of flavor. Excellent!

16oz can into a pint glass.
L: Pours like fizzy hazy white grapefruit juice w/some fizz on top going quickly down to nothing, light carbonation, essentially no lacing. Light yeasty sediment.
S: Sour grapes, grapefruit, light vinegar, a hint of caramel, wet oak.
T: White grapefruit juice & pith, cedar, lemon zest, resinous, earthy lemon grass, a sensation of red apple skin. Overall lightly puckering sour.
F: A gently bracing, semi-juicy, glassy medium bodied mouth feel w/a medium long drying finish.
O: I wish "SOUR" was printed on the label. Nevertheless a grapefruit citrus-forward sour IPA w/a lovely twist using American oak foeders. The wood is integrated nicely in both aroma and taste. This helps give it an organic and fresh taste overall. It's sourness is not overstated as it is a bit citrusy, yeasty, simple & deep. 7.5% ABV is well masked. Like a Saison/Farmhouse/Sour blend. It is very good in it's style.

Prairie Pirate Weekend Imperial Stout, 14.4% ABV; 4.25 overall

Pours a bit like 10,00 mile motor oil. Almost zero head, viscous, no lacing

S: Fortified wine, rum & cola, marshmallow

T; Follows the nose, vanilla, chocolate & marshmallow, some raw barrel up front. Dryness, leafy hops, rum & coke & marshmallow as this warms, along with some creme Brule

MF: Fairly chewy, slight carbonation, pretty damn warming & so sticky on the teeth. Carbonation builds as this warms, but only a little

This is a nice return to Imp Stout very good to greatness for these guys, pretty drinkable, despite the heft
