So my brother in law is now a brewer at Tin Barn in NY, which is his dream job, so I’m making it a point to drink more of their stuff. They seem to brew a lot of high ABV IPAs, big fruity sours and desert stouts, not normally my favorite beers. But he is trying to get them to brew more styles like lagers and saisons, which is a good thing. I do like their IPAs though. So I came across a collab they did with Icarus here in NJ and bought a single.

Icarus/Tin Barn collab Quad IPA Queen of the Yachts.

Pours that murky, thick orange with a nice head. Aroma is of oranges. Slightly sweet smell on top. Taste is a balance of sweet and bitter from the hops. Kind of like eating citrus gummy bears. Thick and creamy, at 12% ABV I would hope it’s thick. No hint at all of the big ABV, making this a dangerously drinkable IPA. Glad I only got a single, especially because I like my IPAs at 6-8.5%, unless I’m sharing.

You're lucky in your sender. Holy Mountain is a great brewery, but one I have very little access to on my side of the Cascades.

Cool label! I got stuck in a squall for about a half hour at the top of that cathedral once.

I couldn't turn down this six pack despite it's age. I've not had a bad beer from Einstök

11.2oz can stamped 22.06.21 BF 22/AUG/2022 (10 months old) poured into a perfect pint glass at just above fridge temp 8% ABV. The beer pours opaque light brown with abundant light brown head. The head recedes to a thin cap and leaves rings of lacing. The aroma is mild with sweet and smokey toasted malt. The taste is semisweet toasted malt with a slightly herbal, smokey, mildly bitter finish. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with just less that average carbonation and a mostly dry finish. Overall, very good.

I'll probably be back with a new to me nightcap later. Cheers all!

Back with another from @Roy_Hobbs , and a brewery I'm a big fan of, Allagash (I was sad when they pulled out of WA, loved having White on tap semi-regularly), this is Coolship Red. Spontaneously fermented sour with Raspberries? I was predisposed to like this, and I was more impressed than I thought I would be: https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/4/58839/

Welly from Fox Farm, an English style Bitter.
I watch a lot of British crime shows and for whatever reason, it’s caused me to seek out the ESB for finding my favorite.
Fuller’s is good, and so is this.
For the ABV it packs a lot of flavor and mouth feel into the beverage. Solid malts backbone and mild hops to give just a little edge to it. One of those I could drink all day and still see straight.
Thanks Bill, this was very enjoyed!

This beer comes courtesy of @colts9016 via BIF 15, I have a big beer from @ovaltine for later so I'm going light while nearing dinner time.

My only experience with Uinta, that I remember, was buying a six pack of their hefeweizen outside Zion National Park in 2008 when my friend and I drove out there to see a bunch of parks. We also ate our first non camp cooked meal in a long time that night, while watching playoff hockey, I remember it like it was yesterday.

    Uinta - Lime Pilsner

Pours a very cloudy straw color, soapy head that quickly dissipates to just a little ring around the glass.

Nose is lime, as one would guess, but it is a nice refreshing lime scent not overdone by any means. Get very little of anything else on the nose, maybe just a light maltiness, if that.

Taste is again a nice balanced lime flavor, but there is more pale malt presence that I would've expected from just the nose.

The mouthfeel is light but it drinks quite nice, not watered down feel at all. Has a nice body to it. Just the slightest hint of acidity from the lime.

This beer I think is doing exactly what it is intended to do. Be an incredibly refreshing, light, and easy drinking beer. It has enough beer-ness to it that it is more than just a light lager with lime. Enjoyable stuff. Thanks for sending my way Jammin.

    Greetings earthlings.
Speaking to you from my tiny and almost uninhabitable planet.
The martian would like to share a beer if you dont mind.
Notch has been hitting on all cylinders with these authentic lagers.
Pours a clear pale yellow with a nice 2 finger bleached white head that has expected retention finally settling to a ring with some sticky foam on the sides.
Aroma of bready malts, notes of herbs and flowers, lemongrass, biscuit
Malt, citrus, and a very slight snappy hop bite.
Very well balanced. Clean as heck, crisp, excellent carbonation throughout. Finishes dry and quenching. What a treat a 4%. I could drink these all day.
Oustanding lager IMHO. Never a doubt when I see Notch Lagers.
Triple decoction really makes a difference. These malts shine.
Cheers. Enjoy your day. I actually have 3 more new ones. Lets see what happens. Not feeling worthy honestly.
    Cheers to you all.[IMG]

    16oz can into a 16oz porter glass.
L: Pours pitch black w/a dark cocoa 2" rocky head, low carbonation, some creamy head retention, no lacing.
S: Over ripe citrus, plum, dark berries, cherry, grapes, a hint of vanilla, lightly smoky.
T: Char, coffee, dark chocolate fudge, hot pepper, dark berries, highly roasted malts, a hint of brown bread, earthy, lightly smoky. I do not taste alcohol.
F: Smooth, creamy, profound tingling heat within a medium heavy bodied mouth feel w/a medium long finish that is spicy & drying. There is pepper heat in my face under my eyes.
O: An ideal Chilie Pepper beer. An excellent example of both Porter and Pepper beer. It's a sipper, fairly bitter w/charry & smoky caramelized malts and plenty of cocoa. Pepper heat isn't as sharp after 1/3 of pint but glows like a hot coal. It's high ABV is very well hidden. I love this beer! and hope more is brewed in the near future!

Greetings all from the great northwest where we are cool with gray skies and occasional rain.

I've pulled a coffee stout by New Glarus from the DBF today.
    https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/590/2810/

Not a bad stout. A bit sweet and thin, but drinkable on a gray day.

    Until next time

    Me, too.

If you want English bitter and British crime show TV to be synchronized, you can't do better than Inspector Morse!

And I like most of the English crime shows for their greater concentration on story and characters rather than on action.

(But, the ones with characters who have 21st century attitudes while being are set in the first half of the 20th century through the early 1960s, I avoid. I lived though the latter part of that period, and, no, people did not think like that.)

I do also get annoyed that PBS calls any police procedural that is commercially broadcast in Britain a "Masterpiece®".

I passed on that one. I enjoyed their Thor’s Imperial Pepper Porter, but this one sounded way too hot on the peppers for my taste. I might have given it a try it I could've bought a single, but my "regular" store was only selling 4-packs. Your description sound good, though.

Lamplighter Space Monster West Coast Style IPA.
Pouring a crystal clear copper color with a an off white 2 finger head that descends fairly quickly to a thin ring with spotty lacing. Beautiful looking beer.
Aromas of mango, pineapple, pine and grapefruit.
Taste follows with classic old school WC notes of pine and citrus pith, a wonderful caramel malt note that doesnt add much sweetness but balances out the superb bitterness.
Body is medium, not too heavy, drying on the finish, bitter hops on the tip of the tongue. No hint of 7.9%. Almost quaffable. Or maybe I just want to quaff...
Great beer if youre into the classic WC style.[IMG]

Today is a relatively rare instance for me. I’m having an IPA that I bought for itself and that was not just along for the ride in a sample box.

I’ve been meaning to try this beer because it is a 3 Floyds IPA in the top 50 of the BOF.

I do enjoy good 90’s-early 2000’s American IPAs / IIPAs from time to time, but they are rarely purchased by me without some impetus (such as today; trying another beer on the BOF).

Three Floyds Dreadnaught IPA (IPA – Imperial)
    ABV: 9.4%
    IBU: 86
    BOF #42 (currently)
    Can dated 3/21/2022
    [IMG]
Clear deep amber. Moderately carbonated. Very tall off-white head. The head is thick and creamy appearing with excellent retention. The surface becomes rocky and pitted as it does slowly recede.

The aroma is old-school IPA. Citrus – grapefruit, hints of pine and resin. Melon. Crackers and bread.

The initial taste favors the crackers and melon for the first few milliseconds, but with the grapefruit and pine coming quickly and dominating. Yet, these flavors back off a bit near the finish with a woody tannin and hops bitterness sharpening the end. The aftertaste lingering is bitter grapefruit, tannin and pine, and bitter. And, yet, the finish and aftertaste is on the sweet side. The alcohol is nowhere to be found except in the eventual buzz. The bitterness in the aftertaste intensifies as I progress through the beer, but if anything, that just makes this beer even better. Very well balanced.

The mouth feel is substantial – creamy, thick even for an IPA.

Overall, this is in line with my expectations. That may sound less than high praise, except that my expectations were quite high to begin with given the brewer and the BOF rank of this beer. An excellent DIPA. One to enjoy.

Those of the juicy hazy milkshake “IPA” crowd, well, you should just move along.

Good Sunday afternoon, New Beer Samplers and commentators. After the cool, damp Spring we've had it's great to do some deck drinking again. I don't believe Fat Heads Brewery distributes to New Jersey - at least I've never seen their beers here. So I was happy to pick up some Hop Juju in Pennsylvania yesterday. This was canned on 2/9. Normally, I wouldn't buy an IPA that old but respected BAs have said it's held up well - and they're right! It's so good now; I can't imagine what it's like fresh.

It pours a hazy, bright orange color with almost two fingers of foamy, egg white head and thick, soapy lacing. The smell is a fragrant blend of pineapple, tangerine, lemon, grapefruit, bready malt, and floral hops. Despite its age the fruit hasn't faded. There's abundant orange/tangerine and tart lemon, lime, and grapefruit rind. The Ekuanot hops are used well. Beneath the fruit is a solid base of Carapils malt that adds sweetness and balances the bitterness of the hops. The Simcoe contributes earthy, resinous pine notes while the Mosaic adds additional spiciness throughout. My guess is that when fresher there is more tropical fruit and berry flavors, as well. Still, it's very well-balanced and flavorful. The mouth feel is moderately thick and creamy with pleasant carbonation, and it drinks very easily for 9% ABV. Overall, I understand why so many beer nerds rave about Hop Juju. Even at almost 3 months it's a terrific DIPA. I'm glad to finally have the chance to enjoy it.
