    Is it easy to buy a Schwarzbier where you are?

    Can't be too hard. Pretty sure they just do the paper money for beer thing in Germany too...:grin:

    Although I’m admittedly a “picky little bitch” and a “beer snob” when it comes to beer the last few years...
    I feel like this year has been the year of the dark lager.
    I’ve had amazing stuff from moonlight, Enegren, notch, human robot, Bierstadt, 18th street, schilling, fair state + small local breweries etc ...

    Don’t know if I’ll make the official tasting thread but definitely had a lot of amazing domestic dark lagers in the last few months.

    So if anyone has access to a good selection of Fair State beer Tmave Pivo is a good one to try and get your hands on. Dropped into a Vietnamese restaurant by my son's house to pickup a to go order and they were slammed so I sat at the bar and had one of these, was pretty impressed with it.

    That's just flat out wrong, sounds like Joe Pesci. What's wrong with those people?!

    All these styles are hard this time of year. Most breweries release these styles in the Winter or late Fall. Took four different stores to get the two new to me ones for the weekend (a local - Grand Central (Munich) Dunkel and Schelenkerla Urbock). Have a collaboration brewed in February for Friday.

    Not that easy, to be honest. Köstritzer is in every supermarket, but that's about it and you won't necessarily find it at corner shops and bars. Most Getränkemarkts will carry Störtebeker and then, if you know where to look, you may be able to find one or two other ones.

    So, apart from Köstritzer, they are really not that easy to get, like anything that isn't a Pale Lager in northwestern Germany...

    I enjoyed the Vienna more than the dunkel. Maybe you can find a can or two of that?

    I'll be at Notch this weekend. They have these three on tap currently which would fit the criteria. One could even argue the Doppelsticke would work (which would make four).

    TMAVÝ
    Czech Dark Lager || 4.5% || Czech Mug || 12° Plato
    Taste: Sweet Dried Fruit, Toasted Dark Bread, Dry Finish
    Notes: Tmavy is Czech for "dark". Double decoction & open fermentation techniques pay respect to its Czech heritage.

    BIERSAL
    Dunkel Rauchbier || 4.5% || Willi Becher
    Taste: Beechwood Smoke, Malt, Toffee
    Notes: A traditional smoked lager modeled after the smoked beers of Bamberg using rauch (smoked) malt. Beechwood smoke is used to dry the barley during malting, resulting in a smoky aroma and hint of smoke in the flavor. Single decocted, spunded and lagered forever Biersal is the perfect balance between the malt and smoke with medium hop bitterness and a clean lager fermentation character. ⁣

    BOCK
    Bavarian Dunkel Bock Starkbier || 6.0% || Willi Becher
    Taste: Toffee, Caramel, Bread
    Notes: Double decocted, naturally carbonated, and conditioned in horizontal lagering tanks. There are several styles of bock, and this traditional bock is dark, malty with notes of bread pudding. Bick was historically produced for the springtime and associated with the religious festivals of Lent and Easter. Bock was also brewed by Bavarian monks to sustain them during their fasting.

    DOPPELSTICKE
    Doppelsticke Alt Starkbier || 7.6% || Willi Becher
    Taste: Malty, Caramel, Floral Hop
    Notes: Doppelsticke, as its name implies, is a "doubled" version of the Sticke Alt. As "sticke" implies secret, this beer is a double secret strong bier! We employ a unique decoction process, known as an enhanced single decoction, that ensures a complex malt character, yet a high degree of fermentability for a drier beer than a traditional doppelbock.

    ...looks like I have a few dark lagers for this weekend...good thing, because I really don't need to go to a beer store anytime soon (so much beer on hand - beerworld problem...:sunglasses:)...

    The "retirement" thing kicks in when enough time passes and there are no new ratings/reviews. Have gotten used to the beers I drink have that status :grin:

    *Based on reviews, it looks like it never crossed the Atlantic. :confused:
