From the 16 oz can in a snifter (not sure if from Bluejacket74 or not).
This decent little brew pours a dark blackish brown with a thick head
of khaki foam that settles to a thick layer with some nice lacing. Nose
of herbal hops, toasted malts, dark breaded malts, and subtle coffee.
Flavors lightly surpass the nose with a stronger herbal and spicy hop
note with a bitter coffee and dark chocolate note amongst dark breaded
malts. Mouth feel is medium light, smooth, subtly creamy, nicely effervescent,
and a nicely balanced hop to breaded malt finish that is lightly dry.

Overall, a solid little brew

Cheers

Beer nearly a year old so may be even better when fresh.

Appearance: Pours a nearly completely dark color with a massive light tan head. SRM of 23. (4.00)

Aroma: Moderate aromas of bread, grains, dark malt. Bready mostly. (3.75)

Flavor: Moderate aromas of grains, bread, hints of dark malt. Dry. Clean. (3.75)

Feel: Medium-bodied, strong and soft carbonation. Smooth and clean. (4.50)

Compared to The Brewing Projekt Dusk Beast 12/2022: Pours similar, larger head. Milder aromas. More bread and grains. Less cocoa and dark malt. Smoother and softer.

Overall: A very nice dark Czech lager here. Lots of bready grains, dark malt, and an especially soft and smooth mouthfeel that Fair State does so well. Bready, drinkable, very nicely done. (Rating: 3.94+)
This was at nearly a year old. I bet it drinks even better when fresh

Purchased as a 6oz draft pour from The Blue Door for $3.50. Poured into a 6oz draft glass.

L - Pours a beautiful clear mahogany, with a one-finger off-white head. Head dissipates quickly. Okay lacing.
S - Lots of brown bread, molasses, and a hint of walnut.
T - Follows nose. Super well-balanced. Earthy. Hint of ethanol on the finish towards the end of the glass.
F - Medium-light in body, with super fine carbonation. Refreshing, and goes down easy. Satisfying.
O - On a sunny, slightly chilly day like today, this hit the spot. I can see this as a fridge-keeper. Worth a try, for sure.

16 ounce can, looks like the date on the bottom says JAN 04 22 but I can't tell for sure, and I'm not sure if it's a canned on or best by date. Got this when hanging out with Brutaltruth last weekend, forgot if me or him bought the 4 pack! Served in a dimpled mug, the beer pours a very dark brown color with about a couple inch tan head that stuck around a while. Head retention and lacing are both pretty good. Aroma is nice, the brew smells like dark chocolate, coffee, roasted malt and some dark breadiness. Taste is similar to the aroma, but with the addition of some nuts, burnt/charred malt and herbal hop flavors. A little more bitter tasting than I was expecting but that's not a complaint at all. Mouthfeel/body is light, it's easy to drink and has a good amount of carbonation. I thought this was an enjoyable brew, wouldn't mind trying it fresher sometime!

A: Pours a dark brown, near black color. Some ruby around the edges. A dense tan head rises with excellent retention and lace.
S: Roasted malts and coffee takes over. Not a lot of nuance in the nose, but its still enjoyable.
T: Like the nose, roasted malts are big. Though it does round out a little better than I originally thought it would. Dry coffee roast, dark bread crust and chocolate. Lager yeast is faint and in the background.
M/O: A medium body. Crisp carbonation that is effervescent and smooth at the same time. Finishes very dry. At first, was was really enjoying this. Though it became more of a chore to drink after a while. Too much roast.

I don't have a ton of experience with the Czech Dark Lager style. This definitely has a highly roasted quality to it. I'm not sure if other examples are this roasted, but maybe some Saaz, or other Nobel hop variety could add just a touch of bitterness to help balance and push this over the top to being really great IMO. Still good to try, but after being initially impressed, it became more of a lighter stout and overly roasted.

Pours a dark “cola” brown, topped with a medium dark tan head. It was an aggressive pour by myself from the can, but the head has a lot of staying power and there is an excellent lacing effect on the sides of the glass.

Dark malt character in the nose is where it’s at. A quite a bit of chocolate-y goodness, but some toffee and (hop) floral notes as well. Excellent balance.

Sweet in the first sip, but it’s much more of a slightly sharp, slightly tangy bittersweet-sweet. So, “malty” and sweet, but it’s hardly a single note, one dimensional effect. Hop bitterness kicks in about midway through the drink and carries this one through, followed by the bittersweetness which finishes it out.

Rich, lasting depth of flavor, despite the lower ABV (or maybe because of it?), and very well balanced.

One of the better domestic example of “the style” (although there’s quite a range of character in the originals, to be sure) and well worth seeking out if well balanced, session-able, characterful dark lagers are in your wheelhouse.

16oz taps into a pint glass at Grizzly's in Plymouth, MN.
L: Pours deep brown almost black with ruby edges w/a 3/4 khaki creamy head. Good retention to a thick skin & edge foam. No visible carbonation. Semi-thick even lacing, banding & sheeting.
S: Heavily roasted toasty caramelized malts, cocoa powder, a hint of root beer, a suggestion of vanilla & raisins.
T: Taste follows nose with dried dates, brown bread. Light bitter bakers chocolate lingers. Well balanced sweetness 40 & bitterness 60. Fairly clean tasting overall.
F: Surprisingly crisp then smooth & creamy. Slightly juicy. Medium light bodied mouth feel w/a gently drying semi-fast light finish.
O: A very fresh tasting easy drinking delicious creamy dark lager with light bitterness and toasty cocoa that is sure to satisfy. It is outstanding in it's style.

From a 16oz can:

Appearance: Clear brown with ruby highlights, big head.

Smell: Roasted malts, some coffee, strong.

Taste: Roasty, nutty, kind of a mineral note in the background. Delicious and easy to drink.

Overall: I never was big on dark lagers, but in the past couple years I've found some really good ones. Tmave Pivo is great stuff, just hits the spot with a nice blend of roasted malt, nuttiness, and a distinct mineral finish that keeps me coming back. Tasty!

Gotta say this, I absolutely love the can design.

L-Pours a dark mahogany colored beer with a rocky two to three fingered head. Solid carbonation.
S-A nice roasted malt aroma is there at first, which brings dark chocolate, caramel, toffee and coffee aromas.
T- Slightly sweet, with nice roasted bitter bite. Very nice and refreshing. There is, as it follows the nose, flavors of coffee and toffee here. Sweet stone fruit, such as dates could be present as well. Very nice.
F-Lighter bodied but it sticks around for a second. Nice carbonation as well.
O-It's hard to make euro lagers in the US good, and Fair State does a good job here. It's complex enough for a dark lager but is also wonderfully refreshing and light. It has a lot of flavor but stays sessionable. I'm excited to try ore from this brewery.
