If you ever make it to Tennessee I would recommend Yee-Haw Dunkel to you:

Year round? I doubt it, but one of the best beers I’ve had from Three Floyds was a Dunkel That I’ve been hoping they would brew again for 12+ years.

Wow! Have not heard if them. Sounds like my kind of brewery. I'm also wanting to try Olde Mecklenburg. I has an exchange a couple of years ago with Steve Holle of KC Bier Co. Asked who does a great job with lagers down south. Olde Meck was the one he mentioned right away. I'm guessing their Dunkel is first rate.

Franconia brewery in McKinney, TX brewed a really nice dunkel back when Dennis Wehrmann was their master brewer. He has since left, and I haven't had it since. Hopefully they held on to his recipe and just follow it. If if ain't broke, don't fix it.

That's one of the beers I was talking about earlier -- great rendition. One of my locals has a couple Weltenburger labels, but the Dunkel isn't one of them. Unfortunately.

Getting to know the beer guy there, maybe I should talk with him...

Are Hofbrauhaus Freising beers available in your area? If so I recommend their Dunkel to you:

It has been a few years since I have seen this beer in my area (Philly area). I seem to recall that Michael (@TongoRad) posted that they are still imported/distributed in the NYC area.

    Cheers!

Has Aldstadt ever brewed a Dunkel (e.g., a seasonal)?

    Cheers!

    YES WE DO!
    An amazing style.
Lucky enough, I have Yuengling Black and Tan, which in itself is not a Dunkle, it satisfies the craving.
A true German Dunkle is nectar of the gods.
Just as long as U. S. breweries don't hop the sh#t out of it or age it in whiskey barrels.
    Leave it alone!

Penn Dark is my favorite local Dunkle.
A shout out to an amazing brewery.
That beer is so smooth and quaffable, not to mention it is reasonably priced.

Yes! It's spotty whether or not we have it frequently. My 81 year old dad loves that one. He grabs a sixer every time it shows up. Hofbrau and Ayinger are the most common German imports I find around me.

I had one bottle shop near me that used to carry Sunny Ridge. They got me hooked on it, but I must have been the only one buying it because it suddenly disappeared. It was like Lucy yanking the football away from Charlie Brown. Very disappointing!

I'd love to see more American breweries give it a run - as long as they do it right. Cheer!

Here are two of my locally made Dunkels. Arches Brewing Winter's Night and Round Trip Brewing Dunkel Platz. The contrast between the two, while subtle, is interesting. Both are well made. Arches leans a little more chocolatey. The Round Trip is more balanced and well rounded. Halfway Crooks makes a Franconian style that is a little more bitter. So despite the perception that some may have that Dunkel may be boring and heavy, I find them to have some interesting nuanced differences and quite easy to drink.

Count me as another lover of Munich-style Dunkel beers.

Last week, I met up with another BA at the Twin Cities Germanic cultural organization for a summer event featuring a sausage meal with a brotchen and slaw (sausages were made by a German butcher who has a shop about an hour north of the Twin Cities). They had Hofbrauhaus Helles and Dunkel on tap. Well, the keg of Dunkel ran out after a couple of hours. I was surprised it was so popular on a beautiful, but breezy summer evening. Great turnout:

Never heard of them, it looks like they have quite a nice line up of beer.

That first one is a looker; the start of some nice lacing. Im guessing they are both seasonal based on the labels.
