[IMG] It is another weekend and the last weekend for awhile. This weekend we have 3 days to sip some new suds. Crack a new beer, take a little extra time, and let us beer lovers know a little something about it. It is fun and great information for the rest of. I have several new ones on hand. I am starting with this one from Mast Landing that on the side of the can says World Beer Cup Gold Award 2022, let’s get started.

Poured into a 13 oz glass canned on 8/23/22. Pours an attractive yellow orange with a 2 finger sticky white head that leaves thick streaks of lace, with excellent retention. 4.5

Aroma is mandarin, mango, peach, apricot, and a little grapefruit rind. 4.25

Taste is mandarin, mango, peach, apricot, and a hint of white grapefruit in the balanced finish. 4.25

Mouthfeel is above average, not sticky or dry, soft gentle carbonation, and at 8.3% big flavor, but it goes down very easy. 4.5

Overall this one is very impressive. Quality and price it is well worth a try. Not sure it would win any awards with me, but still better than most. Cheers all. 4.5

Neshaminy Creek Leon Russian Imp Stout.

Ebony with a 1" tan head which dissipates. No lacing. 3.5

Aroma of chocolate, coffee, roast malt, cinnamon. 4

Tastes of dark cocoa, coffee, roast malt, cinnamon. 4.5

Full body, light carbonation. Oily finish. 4

Lack of a head is a bit of a bummer. Still an outstanding stout. 4

From a trade with @Ozzylizard . Thanks, Bob!

    Back in Black!

Well, nothing really “back” here but that is one of my favorite AC/DC songs so…

Thanks to a generous benefactor I have a Czech Dark Lager to drink today: Pour Man’s Brewery Tmavé Pivo.

I have yet to visit Pour Mans Brewery (Ephrata, PA) but from web surfing I learned:

“Pour Man's is a local microbrewery and brew pub focusing on modern Lager brewing while also producing IPA's, Stouts, and basically every other style you can think of!”

Wow! They are using the old term of “microbrewery” there.

    Concerning today’s beer:

    “Tmavé Pivo Lager - Dark

    4.8% ABV

    28 IBU

    Pour Man’s Brewing Company

    Ephrata, PA

Czech Style Dark Lager. Crisp and refreshing with a hint of roast this traditional dark Lager checks all the boxes. Lager Love.”

Well, I am a believer in “Lager Love” so let the drinking begin!

Served in my Polish Pilsner glass:

    Appearance:

Dark brown colored with a BIG tan head which dissipates rather quickly.

    Aroma:

There are dark malt aromas of dark bread crust and dark chocolate.

    Taste:

The flavor follows the nose with flavors of dark bread and dark chocolate with some very subtle roastiness. There is a low-moderate bitterness.

    Mouthfeel:

Medium bodied with a dry-ish finish.

    Overall:

This beer is very good! This beer is true to style IMO.

This beer has a quality that Germans would describe as süffig (roughly translates to “very drinkable”).

My grandson got his Learner's Permit this week, and of course he wanted to go driving. He needs 50 hours of driving before he can get his license. Since he has never driven, I took him to an empty school parking lot. He did well, didn't speed and didn't crash. We'll do it again.
My new beer for today is Juicy Bits, a NEIPA from Wildwerks Brewing Company in Greeley, CO.

Hazy orange color, small white head with some nice lace.
Aroma of melon and citrus fruit.
Great taste. Orange, pineapple, melon, and mango.
    Smooth, light carbonation.

I am a big fan of Drekker Brewing NEIPAs. This one has a deep murky tropical orange color, with a light foamy cloud cover. A bit of lacing coats the glass. The smell is intensely tropical. Very powerful. You can practically smell it through the can. There are scents of orange, pineapple, mango, grapefruit, and lime. I cannot detect anything besides fruit. The taste is soupy thick grapefruit juice. The color and smell of oranges is not as present in the flavor as I expected. Additional sips confirm an almost singular flavor of grapefruit juice. Which I enjoy. The mouthfeel is Drekker Brewing's signature soupy thickness and lower carbonation. Juicy and smooth. Very refreshing. Overall, this is a really good beer. It meets, but does not exceed, my expectations for this style of beer from this brewery.

Jack's Abby Brewing Copper Legend showed up on our store shelves with a canning date of 8/17/22.

Looks fabulous, clear copper with abundant creamy head.
Strong malty aroma, somewhat nutty, and lightly fruity.
Lots of flavor. I was not crazy about the prominent hop bitterness, but it goes down very easily. Dry finish and good carbonation.
Keep those fresh beers coming, Jack's Abby!

I purchased this beer for last weekend's wild ale/sour tasting II. However, I was not sure if it fit the requirements of the thread, so I saved it for today. The look is a purple-black evil sanguine dark cloud of desire. Foam is quickly erased. The smell is very sweet and sour gooseberry. Chamomile and vanilla. The taste is very sweet and tart gooseberry. On the edge of too much, but it is restrained and optimized in a way that makes it enjoyable. The mouthfeel is like creamy wine. Tart, sweet, smooth, and lively. Luscious. Overall, this is a good sour beer, but I prefer other sour beers from this brewery.

While certainly not a new beer for me, as I have this most every year. Though I have not done a proper review for it...so might as well add one to start off my Saturday afternoon.

Hacker Pschorr Oktoberfest Marzen. 5.8% ABV

Pours a perfectly clear ruby/amber color. A two finger white head forms with good retention initially. That recedes to a ring after a minute with some lace left behind.
Aroma up front, is a biting mineral quality. That I'm pleased with, and leads to a bit of grape like esters. Toasted malts and grains. Light earthy, Noble hops in the finish.
Taste wise, again, that minerality is up front, and I like that. Toasted malts, grains, sweet English biscuits. A Noble hop earthiness. Fairly simple, but very enjoyable.
A medium body with effervescent carbonation. Crisp, supper clean and finishes semi dry. Incredibly moreish, and I can down this in big gulps.

I'm surprised I haven't reviewed this before, but I have it most every year. A spot on example of the style IMO, and should be expected. Less is definitely more here, and I just want to keep coming back. Well done as always.

Pairs wonderfully with some Irish Cheddar and summer sausage for an afternoon snack.

    Overall score is 4.08, A-

Hello NBW fam, back doing our favorite things as always on the weekend; drinking and sharing new beers with each other. Today's beer is special to me...I have watched this brewery slowly and methodically grow organically for a long time now. In my head I had told myself this would be the year they would finally brew an oktoberfest/marzen well they did  and expecting nothing less from them it was canned only 4 days ago, take that all you seasonal creep breweries! That makes this the freshest oktoberfest I have had in a long time, if not ever, sold at 11$ a six pack, stamped by date "proud of you." This brewery seemingly always does what's right (in my eyes...) Without farther ado....

    Tonewood - Biergarten

Great color and really great clarity; nice deep amber color off white head; it’s a little soapy looking but settles to a nice thin film. Just a dot of lacing here and there.

Nose is toasty, grainy, minor spiced bread. It really has a toasted husk like quality note to it for me.

Taste has a spiced bread quality to it, there is a little bit of toasted grain that shows on the finish with minor hop presence; with some earthy qualities to it.

Body verges on medium but has a smooth a creamy carbonation to it that increases its drinkability. There is a minor bitterness on the finish, hop or grain driven, hard to tell. Drinks clean and with a slight drying sensation on the tongue. Only critique is you can tell this lager has abv; not in the form of heat or booze but there is a little something on the finish that hints at it. Just the slightest slightest hint of something in the sinuses.

A solid addition to my personal favorite brewery if you like marzen o fests grab this one you’ll enjoy it.

Our stay at the in laws continues at least another week, bathroom coming along, I miss our house but we’ve got in a nice rhythm over here. And I found this in the basement…straight from Germany

It will be used at least once before we move back out :beers:

Point Remove Brewing Co. Mo Town IPA, 6.3% ABV; 3.51

Pours an effervescent honey color with 2 fingers of cream colored head. Average head retention & lacing
S: Malty sweetness & a little bit of mintyness once warm

T: Caramel, a little grassyness, some lemon, mint & dryness up front. Mint, woodyness, caramel & dryness as this warms. Finishes dry, grassy & minty with malty sweetness & pineyness once closer to room temperature

MF: Medium body, restrained carbonation, skews malty

Drinks decent, this IPA is like stepping into a time machine & landing in the mid 90s. Good for a one & done, I need more nose & hop bite from my IPAs these days

I've been frantically searching for a special bottle to open for my 2000th review and this is the best I could come up with. No complaints, really, I just really wanted a nice bomber of BBA stout from the US, but the days of me being able to get my hands on any of that stuff are long gone, it seems. But hey, I enjoy lambic and I didn't have anything from 3F in a while, so this certainly was a treat, especially since strawberry lambic is somewhat of a rarity.

    Brouwerij 3 Fonteinen - Aardbei / Kriek

Fruited Lambic with strawberry and cherry, from Belgium (6%).

Pours a cloudy, carmine red coloration with a tiny, fizzy head that instantly fades away. Smells of light doughy malt and intense strawberry and lighter cherry notes, as well as hints of straw, funk and oak.

Taste is an excellent balance of light doughy malt and vibrant, expressive strawberry and cherry notes, with the cherry, coming through a lot more on the tongue than in the nose, as well as some straw, mushrooms and hints of leathery funk and musty, tannic oak, with a good underlying lactic, citric acidity. Finishes with a medium sourness and some cherry, strawberry and oak lingering in the aftertaste. Effervescent mouthfeel with a medium body and medium/strong carbonation.

Strawberry lambics are pretty rare and I really like the combination of strawberry and cherry here, with the sour cherries providing the perfect counterpoint to the sweet strawberries, while both are really standing out intensely here. While this is a little light on that marvellous funk that I love so much from 3F, this is really to be expected for a heavily fruited lambic like this.

Still, there is a deep, musty and tannic oak presence to this as well, lending some depth of character along with the light to medium funk and giving a certain complexity to this that elevates it above one of those fruity, relatively easy-drinking summer lambics that I had a few of lately.

I don't drink 3F as much as I used to, mainly because they decided to double/triple their prices at some point and I wouldn't have bought this either if it wasn't for a special occasion and me getting a really good price for it, but it's good to see that their lambic is still as great as ever, if vastly overpriced.

@GreenBayBA - Your New Glarus Black Currants is listed as a Field and Fruit beer, so outside of what we targeted, though a few saisons made it to the thread and it was OK. I consider Founders and New Glarus as my favorite American Fruit and Field breweries, with Founder's Bushing Monk and New Glarus' Belgian Red and Strawberry Rhubarb my favorites.

Rearranged my refrigerated nd only have two new to me beers on hand left, so shopping is in order to be prepared for next weekend. Going with the one new to me July Deep Woods canned release I haven't tried (Coconut Deth was/is excellent, had Thunderstruck last year and also a very good beer).

    Revolution Lumberstruck

    Can Notes:
12 ounces canned 7/7/22, 12.3% ABV. Black barleywine ale aged in Saxum wine barrels. A percussive strike of premium oak. Picked up 7/21/22 at brewery and refrigerated since until opening this afternoon.

Appearance: Pour plus a top off into a stemless Revolution snifter. Brown black cola appearance, puffy darker tan head lingers a half of minute before leaving no trace. Mild carbonation visible upon pouring, fizzes out shortly thereafter. 4.0

    Aroma:
The oak wine barrels lead, sweet grape and berries sweet with no tartness. Light to mild in strength. 3.75

    Taste:
Very sweet and syrupy, grape jam. Vanilla next, sugar relentless. Faint oak about midway through. Reminds me of a very sweet grape jelly sandwich with sugar poured on it, no peanut butter, served on sugary Wonder bread. 3.25

Mouthfeel: Thick full body, like liquid jam, light fizzy carbonation providing fizz throughout. ABV strikes early and often, delivering full blows from a deceivingly innocent sweet concoction. Grape and sweetness lingers. Thicker and fuller body than expected for the style. 3.75

Overall: A bit too sweet as many of the fruit flavored Deep Woods releases tend to be for my palate. This barleywine is heavy, and would likely work better in the colder months, which I intend to wait until to crack open another. Good offering, but prefer Straight Jacket and VSOJ, and all non fruit or maple DW releases to this one. 3.25

Intend on finishing the 12 oz, but on a very slow pace, perhaps taking a break between start and finish. Meeting my brother at Revolution Brewpub tomorrow, so likely hitting at least one or two new to me beers there, including an intriguing wheat lager using malted sunflower seeds that I never recall hearing another brewer attempt.

PS - Micah, this is the only Train song I have liked over the years, hope you enjoy the concert.

    Meet Virginia

PS II - Agree on the pricing but would also like to try your 2,000th selection @Snowcrash000 , so Congratulations on your milestone! Also wanted to thank you for your Kolsch tour, just finished my review of that tasting this week!

Yeah, all their fruited geuze just sits around here. I would get some cause I love them, but man they are expensive. I haven't seen any Oude Geuze 375 ml bottles at all lately, which while expensive is certainly something I will splurge on occasion (at around $17-18). Can't say the same for the others.

Yeah, I can imagine it's even worse in the US. I can easily buy a small bottle their Gueuze for 7-8€, with large bottles of their fruited lambic running for 30-40€, which is ridiculous when I can get most fruited lambic from Cantillon for 20€.

    Good afternoon NBW
I found more oktoberfest beers today, so I'm going to continue to review them.
    Falls City Ottofest
12oz can stamped 08/16/22 poured into a mug at fridge temp 5.8% ABV. The beer pours mostly bright copper penny amber with khaki colored head. The head recedes to a thin ring and scattered tiny bubbles. The aroma is mild with sweet toasted bread and caramel. The taste is semisweet burnt sugar caramel with nutty and toffee malt notes and earthy, mildly bitter finish. The mouthfeel is thin to medium bodied with average carbonation and a mostly dry finish. Cleanly lagered. Overall, good. It's a little caramel / Americanized for my taste, but it's restrained. Drinks easy.

It's still hard for me to think of Falls City as craft. It was a legacy AAL brewed here in Evansville in the late 90s while I was going to school. We called it feels shitty... Someone bought the name when Pabst was selling all that off and the current brewery in Louisville puts out some decent beer. Cheers all!

Long time lurker, first time contributor. It’s a beautiful pre-autumn northern New England day. Time to porch sit with a new one.
    1st Republic Brewing’s Ole ‘77 Lager.
6.2%, 22 IBU, no date info. The can art depicts a Revolutionary War era map with a depiction of Colonial infantry beng led by an officer on horeseback. Lovely.
Appearance: bright copper, translucent, captures sunlight to cast a bright yellow orange hue. Thin white head recedes quickly to sparse cap. Pretty.
Aroma (in order of perception): earthy, musty, husky cereal character. Damp earth. Dare I say Old World and noble? Pleasant.
Taste: follows nose. Toasted wheat bread, slightly toasty bread crust, gentle sweet white bread. Very pleasant.
Mouthfeel: medium body fullness in mouth is very balanced, not weighty. Slight astringent (dryish) and lingering finish invites you to more.
Overall: very enjoyable lager that this brewery should be proud of. A wonderful capture of American respect for Old World tradition. [IMG]

    Against the Grain Oktoberfest

16oz can stamped 08/10/22 (I think) poured into a mug at fridge temp 5.6 % ABV. The beer pours mostly bright dark amber with copper highlights and khaki colored head. The head recedes to a thin ring and single layer of bubbles. The aroma is sweet caramel mostly. The taste is semisweet caramel with mild nuttiness and very mild bitterness. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with average carbonation and a mostly dry finish. Mostly clean lagering with a hint of butter. Overall, ok. A passable American style oktoberfest, but all caramel and not my style.

I sent a request to move this one from the Festbier category to Märzen. Cheers all!
