Good morning NBS/nbw and thanks @Victory_Sabre1973 for hosting this week.
We spent a few days in Newburyport this week, so had to stop in at Newburyport Brewing.
The Taproom is lively and the offerings were fun, I did enjoy thier take on a Copper ale quite a bit.
Todays offering id thier Export Stout, rich, dry, excellent texture. A treat in this time of sweet stouts.
    Cheers all

Poured from a 16 oz can, purchased at the brewery. Date is BB 12/1
A - Dark brown, almost black. A steady pour yielded a lovely tight knit mocah cap. Lacing is detailed and plentiful.
S - Hints of char, bakers chocolate, dark roast malt, a bit of espresso all in keeping with the style.
T - All the aromatics are present, the emphasis is in the char and chocolate areas.
M - Medium in body, a nice tension between semi sweet and bitter. Add to that an excellent dry finish.
O - A very good take on the style, an enjoyable everyday stout.

    It's Fall; let's have a new-to-me Fall beer!

    Clown Shoes Pumpkin Sombrero

Yes, it's a pumpkin stout. I actually tend to like those more than "regular" pumpkin beers. This one is no exception.

The pumpkin spice is a bit much on the nose, but it's a bit more restrained on the palate - a bit. The chocolate does come through, along with a very light touch of heat.

There isn't much else to it: it's a pumpkin chocolate "Mexican-style" stout. I think I'll enjoy at least one more during the season.

Dark, murky brown body; no head; looked thick and viscous during the pour. An alluring spicy, boozy aroma; dark fruits; dates and anise; wood-like herbal note. An initial take that the taste is bland quickly develops into a powerhouse of intense flavors; cinnamon and black licorice; peppermint; brown sugar; black cherry; bourbon; leather and tobacco; a suggestion of chili pepper. Heavy, thick and slippery mouthfeel; huge residual sugar presence; slippery and oily; plenty of alcohol warmth percolates through the beer's depth.

This is truly a unique and impressive beer. This is a non-carbonated beer (on purpose), so the relatively high score for the looks. Things get real interesting once the aroma, flavor, and mouthfeel come into play. The standard terms of 'rich' and 'complex' don't really do this beer justice. It's a definitely a unique and impressive beer experience. This one if for the ages.

Greeting NBW fam missed you all yesterday; sorry it was a busy busy day because we finally returned home. We came home on a beautiful fall day and a perfect night. Our bathroom is finally finished, minus some trim that will get done in the coming days or week. It was a special month living with our in laws down the road but nothing compares to home sweet home.

I’m flying solo all day into tonight, Mrs Phisher in Annapolis for her sisters baby shower. Fit in some quality time with the boys all morning but now I sneak in a beer during their screen time hour.

This one has been coming up a lot with big hoppy conversations, being a darky hoppy beer I wanted to give it a try with all the comparisons I’ve read on here.

    Allagash - Haunted House

    Lacing for days…

First and foremost this is a beautiful looking beer…the head was quick to form but tons of dense microbubbles keep this thing together for a long time. Slightly off white in color. I’m watching the lacing occur as it settles and it’s lovely. The beer itself is a very deep dark brown color with clarity at the edges. Ok still way later a thick creamy cap remains, some serious retention on on this beer. This beer has wall to wall lacing; best I have seen in a long long time.

This beer has a very enticing aroma to me…it has a floral like chocolate scent that is addictive to smell to me. Underneath it is some slightly burnt toast notes and hints of weak coffee. Little bit of hoppiness in the form of freshly cut green leaves.

So the taste throws a curve ball a huge hit of roasted malt sour the first to greet you; these were less prevalent in the aroma. Reminds me of bitter coffee but with some spice; which again I was not expecting. Now I’m wondering if these are the notes from their house yeast. It’s like the notes from white but turn way down and hidden in the foreground. It’s really really neat. Yeastiness in the aftertaste and burps…

This beer has an incredibly smooth and creamy mouthfeel; silky carbonation that almost reminds me of a nitro beer. Medium body with both roast and hop bitterness on the finish. Drinks quite clean with moderately dry finish.

What an awesome beer! There is so much nuance and balance to this thing. I’m having trouble trying to find any equivalent to this beer. My favorite part is the yeasty esters hiding in the background underneath all the roast and hops. I’m really geeking out over this beer; one of the coolest beers I’ve had in a long long time. Love it!

It may be a busy rest of the day for me so I probably won’t fit in another new beer. I’m gonna shoot for an Oktoberfest post though if I can in the tasting thread.

I hope everyone has a lovely, rewarding yet stress free week. Be well…cheers everyone and happy fall!

Picked up at the Brewery last weekend, straight from the green mountains to my head . Red/ amber ales are not a preferred style of mine but it was new and available, let’s give it a try

Canned 9.15, opened 9.25, poured into a pokal

Brewers notes: Our robust, rich maple ale is loaded with 100% pure Vermont maple syrup. It delivers a smooth and palate pleasing mouthfeel with a slightly sweet finish

Pours a clear russet reddish brown with numerous micro carbonation streams crowned by a fluffy taupe foam cap , settles to a thin layer, good cascading lacings

Aroma is toasty, toasty malts with a whiff of maple

Taste is sweet-bitter as opposed to bittersweet , slight maple taste at the start, toasted malts , hop bitterness on the finish

Sudsy mouthfeel , bitterness on the finish

    Good beer

Moore Boo a12.2 ABV BBA Pumpkin Ale from Untied Brewing. As a rule I don't like Pumpkin Ale but I do enjoy BBA Ale. Another BA posted that this was a Bourbon bomb so I took a shot. The beer is a Bourbon bomb. There is a touch of softness from the Pumpkin in the mouthfeel and that’s it. I enjoyed this beer a lot.

I was tempted to pull the trigger on a couple more, but I held back. I haven't gotten the stink eye from Mrs DIM yet and I am frankly amazed. Lots of boxes rolling in over the last year or so and she signs for every blessed one of them since she works from home.

Excellent write up, this one is absolutely unique and much better than the 2018 version. I'm impressed your going for the full pint! I took about a week with mine. Looking forward to the next bottle, hoping to hang on for the 1 year mark.

...I'm a long-time beer hound (just ask my liver) and big beer consumption is still a thing for me (but getting rarer as I'm really loving the pilsners and kölsch beers of late more than anything else)...I notice that we both came up with the same overall score on this beer...

Poured from a 16oz can stamped “8.24.22 CONTENTS UNDER PHRESHER” to a Nonic at fridge temp.
Body is a light yellow opaque haze. A thin pure white head sits on top and lacing is medium throughout the session.
The aroma is of hoppy melon.
The taste has melon, lemon, hop hit, sweetness then a dry out at the end.
There is a medium mouthfeel to this, but it works okay. Carbonation is appropriate.
Quite a good beer, very refreshing.

    Good afternoon NBW
I finally got around to picking up a four pack of this GABF 2019 silver medal winner from Henderson, KY (right across the bridge from me).
    Henderson Brewing Company Bridgeview ESB
16oz can from a four pack dated 6/4/22 (purchased cold at the brewery - 3+ months old) poured into a tulip pint glass at fridge temp 5.6% ABV per brewer's website. The beer pours darker amber in color with plenty of khaki colored head. The head recedes to a thin cap and leaves quite a bit of lacing. The aroma is mild with toasted malt and toffee. The taste is bittersweet Maris Otter malt with an earthy tea-like hop flavor and medium bitterness. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with average carbonation and a mostly dry finish. Overall, very good.

It's very apparent that folks around here don't know what they are missing. A well crafted Maris Otter ale that only sells out a few times a year to warrant another batch to be canned. I'll be drinking more of this one. Cheers all!

Wound up at Southern Yankee Crafthouse this afternoon. A great satellite tap room/tied house or whatever you want to call it, to the brewery that is in north Houston.

Nan's Pie Blackberry Brandy Aged Imperial Stout. 11.6% ABV. There is no fruit added to the beer, its the type of Brandy.

Pours a dark brown, nearly black color. A small beige head forms and sticks throughout as a cap. Light lace is left behind.
The aroma...oh man. Lots going on here. Brown sugar and baked bread. Wood, vanilla, dark fruits and chocolate covered berries.
Taste wise, like the nose, lots going on. Brown and caramelized sugars, just a tiny bit of roast. Baked dark bread that is all very warming. Some wood and vanilla. More actual blackberry fruits can be detected, and becomes nicely acidic. Which cuts through and balances the sugars and heavier flavors. This is decadent and really enjoyable.
A full body, as the malts give this a nice chewiness without being over the top thick. Surprisingly carbonated at first, but that becomes ultra smooth as this breaths. A big one, but such a nice sipper. I could come back to this with ease, and just enjoy sipping for a while.

Decadent, but at the same time very moreish. It hits that really good balance, especially considering the ABV. I have been gravitating to these big beers less and less over the years, but this one is really well made. Highly recommended.

Overall score is 4.24, which more me is on the A/A- boarder.

My second new beer of the weekend
    [IMG]
    Ommegang 25th Anniversary Ale
12oz bottle stamped L071322 poured into a signature Ommegang chalice at fridge temp 9% ABV. The beer pours bright amber in color with khaki colored head. The head recedes to a thin ring and single layer of bubbles. The aroma is mild, yet spicy with orange and coriander most prominent. The taste is semisweet caramel malt with a big hit of coriander, orange peel and grains of paradise. Really heavy handed on the spice. Mild bitterness. The mouthfeel is medium plus bodied with average carbonation and a semi dry finish. Overall, a miss for me with loads of add ons and little malt or brewing complexity.

This one drinks like an ipa to me with lots of caramel malt and big in-your-face spice taking the place of hops. Could be delicious in a few years...

For what seems to be a pastry stout on paper, this is neither sweet or rich, nor thick or chewy. It tastes like prune and perhaps a bit of cocoa powder. I don't know where they went wrong, but it tastes nothing like it's advertised.

I don't think either of us are going to make it to the bottom of the glass.

Good Sunday afternoon, New Beer Samplers and commentators. My plan for today was to review a new Imperial Stout released this week by a recently-opened local brewery. I thought the IPAs and Porter I had there opening weekend were solid so I was anxious to try the Stout and bought a crowler today. Unfortunately, it was a trainwreck and a drain pour so I had to change direction. Fortunately, @lordofthewiens recently sent me a box of New Mexico beers, including a Munich Dunkel, "Danke Dunkel," from Rowley Farmhouse Ales in Santa Fe. I was surprised that it wasn't in the BA database.

It pours a cloudy, orange-brown with a thin, light khaki-colored head and minimal lacing. The smell is primarily bready malt with notes of caramel and burnt nuts. As it warms there is just a whiff of chocolate. There is no discernible hop presence in the nose. The taste opens with the same bready malt and caramel but there is more balancing dry spicy bitterness than I expected. It's mouth feel is robust for the modest 5% ABV and the carbonation level is appropriate. Overall, Danke Dunkel is well-crafted. It's always fun to drink this style.
