    I know! I didn’t know 2015 BWs were bad too. 2015 was a bad year for GI. I have one non-infected 2015 date range stout. Time will tell. Until then, I’ll pop all the 2017 BWs I can get!

    2015s of the stout are good when not infected. I can confirm!

    I've always liked salted caramel, never much cared for a brew with added junk, but I took a chance on this. Overly sweet, finish. I guess I'll sit on the rest for a couple of months.....[IMG]

    I dislike rye in any form I’ve tried. Last time I had this, I couldn’t detect any rye and it was just amazing. This time, I can taste rye, but I like it? What? Fuck this beer, it’s delicious.

    Falcon & The Falconer tonight. Had to reacquaint myself with the Second Coming.

    [IMG]

    The Second Coming

    Turning and turning in the widening gyre
    The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
    Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
    Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
    The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
    The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
    The best lack all conviction, while the worst
    Are full of passionate intensity.

    Surely some revelation is at hand;
    Surely the Second Coming is at hand.
    The Second Coming! Hardly are those words out
    When a vast image out of Spiritus Mundi
    Troubles my sight: somewhere in sands of the desert
    A shape with lion body and the head of a man,
    A gaze blank and pitiless as the sun,
    Is moving its slow thighs, while all about it
    Reel shadows of the indignant desert birds.
    The darkness drops again; but now I know
    That twenty centuries of stony sleep
    Were vexed to nightmare by a rocking cradle,
    And what rough beast, its hour come round at last,
    Slouches towards Bethlehem to be born?

    Interesting interpretation of the poem pictured on the label. I've been trying to read the falcons expression to no avail. Proud conqueror? Lost and in mourning? Hungry, desperately looking for last scraps?

    I also can't help but wonder if there is political statement here? Definitely not looking to get into that here, Google skookum if you're curious. Regardless, I want the T-shirt and the beer is kick ass.

    Woa. This is a 2017 American Barleywine and it outstandingly delicious...I'll let my last one sit another year or 2. Very boozy and still pretty hoppy but not harsh...this is very smooth

    Love that label art/imagery. Great poem. Need to go pull Things Fall Apart off the shelf and revisit Okonkwo and his yams.

    I wanted to help the barleywine thread keep pace with the imperial stout thread. Hard to do a lot of either of these big beers! This is Barreled Souls rum barrel raisin honey pot from Barreled Souls. A wheat wine per BA. This 18% combined with the rum barrel (which I dont like) has kept this aging in the cellar. Tonight is the night though!!

    onto my review:
    [IMG]
    Sampling this 500 ml bottle that was filled in Feb 2021, picked up at the brewery in Oct 2021 and poured into my trusty snifter tonight. The beer pours a rich mahogany color with a fizzy and short lived eggshell white head of 1 cm. This foam is nothing soon after the pour. Higher ABV may be the cause.
    Aroma is brown sugar, molasses, butterscotch, raisins, fruity rum notes and some vanilla. Generally sweet nose, but not candy like. THe butterscotch seems to fade after the beer has sat in my glass for a bit. Not really boozy which is impressive at 18%!!
    First sip reveals a medium body and very fine yet gentle carbonation. Texture is surprisingly smooth and not very sticky which is also impressive for a big ABV beer.
    Flavor is generally sweet with brown sugar, rum soaked raisins, and some toffee up front. The butterscotch on the nose doesnt show through here. I never get any hops anywhere and the ABV is hidden with no warmth and no peppery bite either.
    Finish of the beer is sweet but not candy like here either. Brown sugar and a bit of vanilla and some dark fruit flavors.
    This is a tasty brew from Barreled Souls, I was worried as I dont like rum a whole lot, but this beer works.

    4.32 in the BA DB

    Wow, that sounds like a beast! I'm with you, Rum barrels are my least favorite except maybe for gin. I have had some tasty ones though.
