I agree with his quote about Philly, but the part I bolded raised my eyebrow. While Yuengling doesn't exclusively brew their Traditional Lager, it's like 80% of their sales. You can even order one by just asking for a "Lager" in most Pennsylvania bars. So you'd think that would come to mind.

Not 100% certain, but i believe it’s more likely to be Maine only

I enjoyed reading the above linked article.

For folks who enjoy drinking beer from the tank(s) on your next visit to Prague a visit to Červený Jelen (Czech for Red Stag) is in order since they have tanks ‘stacked’ over several stories:

So, they don't serve any non-alcoholic beverages for underage or other non-drinkers?

The opening day menu that was posted in Post #307 only listed a NA beer and a locally made Sarsaparilla. I'm not sure if that part of the menu was the same when I was there or not, since I wasn't focused on that. I know there were some other changes to that version of the menu - there was a burger added, and a couple different hard ciders.

All I can say is this is the paraphrased exchange I overheard (since there was only about 2 feet between our tables):
"Can I get a Diet Coke?"
"We don't actually serve any sodas"
    "How about sparkling water?"
    "Let me check"......"No, sorry"
    "Uh..ok I'll stick with water"
The server didn't suggest anything else non-Alcoholic, so I can only assume they didn't have anything else to offer.

The guy's date ended up ordering something that was non-beer, so they definitely weren't there for the beer and probably didn't understand the "Tankpub" concept. I would have thought that would have been a time for the server to give a quick explanation of the concept to those customers.

I’m curious how anyone ends up there if they’re not there for the beer. It’s not a big place and not really in a crowded restaurant area. I guess some people could wander by and decide to check it out. But even a cursory search on your phone would tell you about the place.

If someone is walking by, doesn't the signage on the door just say "Sacred Profane Tankpub"? I think most people know the term "Brewpub", but "Tankpub" probably doesn't register with the average person.

I know what you mean, but taken literally, isn’t this more or less what the owners didn’t want though?

It probably didn’t strike me when I visited because I’d already read so much about this place, but thinking about it now, it does seem a little odd that they don’t make any effort to educate the customer about what it is they are doing. Since they made such a big deal about this being a novel concept in the US, it would certainly make sense for the servers to give some kind of overview.

I remember a while back Iron Hill (a local brewpub chain) would make a huge stink about their process and how fresh their beer was. Heck I even want to say they said it was served directly from their tanks. It sort of still implies that on their site...https://www.ironhillbrewery.com/our-story/brewing-process

Point being they definitely marketed that and used it as a selling point to their customers, I bet it would be a good selling point for your average person who visited Sacred Profane and didn't know what most of us know.

Or even just a couple sentence blurb at the top of the menu.

Yeah you're right. I didn’t think about it that way. I was thinking about people like us seeking the place out vs people randomly walking in. But I did read it as a place for people who love beer but don’t need hazies or to tick.

I have been to Iron Hill Brewpubs many, many times (a variety of locations). When ordering food they would give you paper placemats which depicted the brewing process:

They did a great job educating their customers about brewing beer and yes they would serve beers from serving (brite) tanks.

    Cheers!

As @zid alluded to, if you go back to Brienne Allan's quote from the Born on 3rd podcast (at ~56 minutes in) that was previously discussed in this thread:

"...we are being very vocal about we are not a taproom, we are not a craft brewery, you're not coming here to, you know, drink the beer. we're a restaurant, we're a tankpub. it's an experience."

Yeah I said he was right. But now that I’ve been there I’m wondering how that would work as intended. The food, at least to me, did not seem like a big draw. I’m sure the food is fine, but the menu is pretty limited. The beer seems like the star here, whether or not it’s meant for “craft beer drinkers.” Like I said a week or so ago, I really enjoyed my brief visit and happy to be proven wrong.

I like the positive mention of how highly rated their beer is already on untapped, followed by basically, “now here’s what those pretentious, know-it-all assholes over at BA had to say…” haha. But even so, I enjoyed the article.

Although both quotes come from the same post by @Jbrews , even though the article states they are two statements from two different users. Reference fail.

The writer also failed to cite any of the positive comments by those of us who visited once they opened (or any from before they opened).
