Good Day BAs! New to me lunch beer is from deciduous brewing company, Newmarket, NH - “Trees & Seas” DIPA:

Brewed with Motueka & Rakau hops. Pours a hazy pale gold with a little clarity under creamy white foam; ok cap retention leaves a sold ring and some soapy lacing. Tropical fruit nose with a little citrus. Mango, apricot/semi sweet stone fruit; very little bitterness; some lime in the finish. Medium body; soft feel; moderate minus carbonation; no astringency. Overall a very tasty hazy with an easy drinking light body. Enjoyable.

poured from a 16oz can into a SP mini willi becher. pours straw gold with a white, soapy head. hardly any lacing at all. lemon, grass, hay on the nose and taste. not overly complex but very thirst quenching and light and enjoyable. medium-full mouthfeel with a zippy carbonation to it. nice lager.

Today's second beer on this snowy Sunday comes courtesy of @Coronaeus.

Hellwoods - an Imperial Stout from Bellwoods Brewery
    [IMG]
Standout visually is the robust, dense chocolate milkshake brown head that had excellent retention and beer **** levels of lacing. Excellent looking beer. Aroma is understated, with light chocolate and light roast both there, but discretely.

Taste is richer than I anticipated, especially up front. I would almost have guessed there was a small amount of maple syrup used, although that's not the case. The initial sweetness fades on the tongue and is replaced by light bitterness that I think balances the beer well. It's not overly complex, but it is quite tasty. Feel is very thick and creamy.

Overall, very enjoyable beer. Thanks, Peter.

Poured into a red solo cup. Amber looking. Off white head.
Nose has a faint malt biscuit aroma.
Taste is roasty malt biscuit. There's a good hint of caramel on the backside.
    The body is decent.
    This is a good beer.

Be back later for new ice fishing beer.
Oh, almost at our limit of fish.

Big night yesterday. Our youngest got his Master's degree in Biology. He plans on getting a doctorate and wants to teach. For me today, it's beer and football. My new beer for today is Augmenter, a "barrel aged Brett Saison from Diebolt Brewing in Denver, CO. I've had some other Diebolt beers, thanks to my Beer Drop subscription, and have enjoyed them all.
A dark orange/red color. Tan head that dissipates quickly. No lace.
    Citrus aroma, somewhat funky.
    Taste of orange and spice.
    Medium mouthfeel.
    Liking this beer.

Ah! Is there no finer time in the week then early afternoon on New Beer Sunday? As some carrot bread storms into the oven; its time for a beer.

    Waterloo Dark Lager

Poured rather cold into a tall pint glass from sleek grey tall boy can; Waterloo Dark pours an absolutely gorgeous dark walnut brown with a thick tanned meringue head. Lots of big sticky bubbles and fine lacing.

Under the honker drifts aromas of coffee, roasted malts and back licorice. A rather full bodied aroma to say in the least.

Tastes of simple chocolate ice cream with notes of toffee and caramel. Somewhat bitter; however the bitterness is coming more from the barley then the hops. Its tastes really good.

Waterloo Dark is the beer that drinks a bit bigger than it is. As it coats the roof of your mouth with a light chocolate glazing it goes down rather fresh and quick. I could see this 5% abv lager beer going quite well with a heroic helping of fish and chips.

I'm not loose with my 5's but this one is pretty darn close.

    Excellent dark lager beer.

Surly Lumberjack Breakfast BBA RIS, 12% ABV. Pours thick and black, with a sturdy 1.5 finger light-brown head that left great foamy lacing. Nose is roast malt, coffee, maple, cinnamon, and bourbon. Taste follows, plus vanilla, moderately sweet, equally bitter, with slight bourbon burn and maple on the close. Excellent thick and smooth mouthfeel with decent carbonation. Overall world class. IMHO this beats CBS, with stronger coffee and maple. This is a well-engineered beer, though no horse.

    Good afternoon NBW
I picked this up in north western Ohio this week while visiting family.
    Jackie O's Champion Ground
12.7oz 2022 vintage bottle poured into a Duvel glass at fridge temp 11.8% ABV per label. The beer pours midnight black with no light penetration and a meager medium brown colored head. The head recedes to a pencil thin ring and some micro dots of lacing. The aroma is moderate in strength featuring expresso beans, bourbon, charred oak and bakers chocolate. The taste is semisweet chocolate, caramel, fruity / berry coffee, light sweet bourbon and gentle oak. Mild to moderate bitterness. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with just less that average carbonation and a semi dry finish. ABV is well hidden. Overall, excellent to world class.

Happy to have this in my glass right now. Cheers all!

Welcome one and all to New Beer Sunday #929! Back as promised with a second WCIPA. Had to look up Pahto, as I've never had this hop before.

Phase Three / Hop Ranches / Yakima Chief Hops collaboration Symmetrical Design

Can Notes: $3.50 single 16 oz can distributed week ending 11/25, no can date. Brewed & Packaged by Phase Three Brewing (Lake Zurich, ILL), purchased at store temperature at Beer on the Wall, refrigerated upon returning home until now. American Double India Pale Ale. Idaho 7 / / Pahto Hops, 8.0% ABV.

Online Collaboration Notes by Phase Three: This year while we were out in Yakima selecting our Citra, Mosaic, Amarillo and El Dorado, we got the chance to visit Hop Ranches (Double R) while they were harvesting their crop of Pahto hops, a super clean bittering hop. We hung out and chatted over some wet hopped beers. When we got home we started drawing up an idea for a collab beer we could do with them and our primary hop supplier, Yakima Chief Hops. Double R farm grown Idaho 7, literally just weeks old, pelletized in type-90 form with a dash of Pahto at 60 minutes for a firm bitterness in this West Coast DIPA, Symmetrical Design. The namesake of this beer is from all three company’s logos all being symmetrical. We took our base West Coast grain bill and beefed it up with a bit of Vienna.

Appearance: Multiple pours into a shaker pint glass. Generous white bubbly creamy airy head, leaves clumpy lacing throughout. Light carbonation fades to a trickle relatively quickly. Yellow straw lightly murky base. 3.75

    Aroma:
Blend of tropical and citrus, orange SweeTart the primary flavor from memory. Smells a little artificial, very sweet. 3.5

Taste: Consistent with the aroma, though noticeable bitterness seeks to contain the sweetness with moderate success. Everything seems a bit constrained, a negligible tropical sweetart taste, light citrus and pine. OK. 3.25

    Mouthfeel:
Sweet over bitterness, light and easy drinking especially in comparison to the higher ABV. No carbonation, light watery body. 3.25

    Overall:
This beer tastes a bit artificial to me, nothing really stands out, somewhat like a classmate from decades before which you rarely did anything with. Not sure if I have any additional information regarding Pahto hops beyond that I am not going out of my way to seek this again. OK, will finish, but glad I bought a single. 3.0

Well, I saved the wrong beer for "Prime TIme" New Beer Sunday, not the first and definitely won't be the last either. I need to stick with C Hops, El Dorado, Amarillo. Rarely disappointed or underwhelmed when a solid brewer sticks with the tried and true.

Two side by sides planned for the upcoming week (Monday and Friday). Yikes.

Less and less to a take a chance on a local west coast ipa @ChicagoJ for precisely how you described that beer.

Sometimes all they do is add some bitterness, but rarely enough. They almost always seem to fall short from me with very few exceptions.

Sorry this one fell short for ya; I feel your pain. When expecting a west coast and you get nothing like it.

Cold dreary day here, but is Dec 1th and no snow yet...Ill take it!

Victory Dark Thunder Storm King. 9.1%ABV Imperial Stout.

Not sure if this is a new release, don't recall ever seeing it.

Thick frothy head (pretty aggressive pour). Medium body. Fairly creamy
mouthfeel. I get mostly coffee aromas, but I don't have a great sense of smell.

Taste upfront is roasted coffee, dark slightly bitter chocolates with a nice balance of roasted malts. I
only get a hint of sweet coconut, which is fine by me. It adds just enough depth
without being the star. The finish is nice, although I wished it lingered a little longer. Has touch of sweet coconut that doesn't overpower the coffee and chocolate. Any more coconut would be too much for my taste. I only get a hint of alcohol at the finish.

I will enjoy the rest of the 4 pack!
    Cheers

    Narrow Gauge - Abeyance b5

poured from a 375mL bottle into a perennial snifter. pours black with a thin dark brown foam cap. heavy bourbon barrel on the nose. some slight chocolate and dark fruits as well. lots of dark fruits in the taste. still heavy bourbon. these blends (2-5) have reminded me a lot of the Voodoo black magicks only not nearly as thick of mouthfeel. still a very good non-adjunct BA IS. wish it was little heavier on the chocolate notes over the dark fruits though.

Giant/Free Will Brewing Cinnamon Latte Stout - Years ago if you would have told me that my local Giant's would have a damn good beer selection and would do some cool collaborations I would have said, "Yeah okay, sure they will," but alas here we are. Wegmans used to be my go to for beer but anymore the Giant's are better in a few ways which works great for me, as I have many very close to me, all with unique beers to offer and some surprises in the singles section.

Pours from a 16 oz can (anyone else kind of over this format?) a nice black color with a creamy, frothy head. Smell is coffee forward and the cinnamon and vanilla are there but just barely, taste is identical to the nose; but as it warms the vanilla comes through a little more. They use oats in this and I am a fan of oat milk and its texture and this does add a nice, smooth, creamy mouthfeel and while just a little thin, for 6.6% it drinks about what I would expect. Quite good and I would gladly drink this again. Go Birds! Budmo!
