Hopefully Bell’s produces Black Note again one day. Your review is like mine for Black Note - a barrel aged mix of Expedition and their Double Cream Stout. I’ll have to note this one for future trades. Cheers!

Are you saying @beergoot got his notes wrong? That just sounds preposterous!!! Perhaps there was a flying elbow or roof-top suplex involved that day

    16 ounce can.
    Can's bottom reads:
    Prodigal Son
    12/01/22

Moderate pour yields a one inch white head over a very hazy, light golden body with scant lacing.

Nose of mostly fresh orange juice with other citrus notes as well.

Flavors, in order, consist of orange, lemon, lime, slight tropical fruit with a hint of pine.

    Good feel with medium carbonation.

Overall, this is a tasty little treat. Go find this for the nose! As soon as I cracked this open the smell of freshly squeezed orange juice attacked my olfactory receptors!!

    Cheers!!!

Drinking vicariously through you all this weekend; tested positive for Covid last week and still not trying alcohol at all, but I am feeling better and plan on getting back into the shipment that @Victory_Sabre1973 sent for NBW BIF #16 within the next few days.
But really enjoying reading your posts until then.
    Cheers all!

    Threes Brewing Unmitigated Kellerbier.

Pours a slightly cloudy mid-gold. Light head with light lacing.

The nose is primarily cereal. Some grassy hops sit in behind. Some I’ll-defined spiciness. Delicate aroma.

Taste follows but with a little more diversity. Light grainy character on the tongue. Grassy notes punch through next. Some floral qualities as well. Good.

    Lighter body. Easy drinking. Enjoyable.

This was a very nice Kellerbier. Threes has never let me down in my limited experience of their beers.

    Cheers!

I move next from a WC purveyor of NEIPAs to one of hte absolute OGs of NEIPAs. But, spoiler alert, this is not an NEIPA! I wasn't expecting that, but hey I'll take it!

Who knows what it looks like. You're supposed to drink it from the can! Man, I bet nobody has ever made that joke before!
Anyway, it pours mostly clear, but far from crisp. If hazy IPA wasn't already a thing, I'd probably use that word in the description, but, well, here we are.
The head is large, with big wet bubbles. As it dissipates, it leaves wonderful lacing down the glass that I must admit I used, at least initially.

Nose presents with grainy straw malts up front, with lemony citrus, and a sweet floral note from the mosaic. There's an earthy undercurrent as well.

Flavour begins in the same direction, with some grainy malts up front before committing fully to the citrus. Initially it's that same sharp lemon, but it quickly converts to grapefruit, and man it never looks back. As I keep working through it, the grapefruit builds and becomes more prominent, culminating in a bitter grapefruit finish that taps into both pith and pine for it's warming bitter finish.

This is not at all what I was expecting, but I dig it. Thanks Maynard for sending it my direction!

Last one for the weekend is Dark Mild from Machine House Brewery in Seattle. Compliments of @kemoarps in BIF 16.

Poured at fridge temp. Pours a very dark brown with tan head. The nose is wonderful. Chocolate, mild roasted malts, toffee, pipe tobacco, some licorice, and dark German bread.

The taste is fantastic. Really rich and vibrant taste. The roasted malts really shine here. Molasses, charred wood, dusty leather-backed books, and just a hint of soy sauce. Really nice.

The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied. It's incredible just how much flavor is packed into this one. Just a great beer.

I absolutely loved this variety four pack review, and that Spruce IPA sounds incredible! Thanks for taking the time.

Thank You! I picked it up primarily to try the Pahto hops. I didn't get any of the flavor notes, and the explanation of the hop linked below states it is commonly used to bitter the beer without providing much flavor or aroma. I knew the Idaho 7 would deviate the taste at least slightly from a traditional WCIPA profile.

    https://beermaverick.com/hop/pahto/

The primary disappointment came from the muddled / artificial taste. Not sure Pahto had anything to do with it. Phase Three is hit or miss for me, but do like their hits so still pick up the non haze / DDH / Cyro offerings when I have a chance.

Will do as long as BA exists and I'm among the living.

    Hey, NBWers,

Been a snowy week in the inland NW. Winter isn't officially here yet, but it's been happening here since the start of November. We seem to have developed a pattern. Snow falls, and then the temperature drops well down into the teens and twenties and freezes everything up. Most recently it was snowfall on Wednesday and Thursday, about 8 inches worth. Today it was just warm enough to where there was a teensy bit of melting, but not enough to have any real effect, and by the middle of the coming week it's going to be down in the low teens at night again.

Today I went with a hazy IPA from Tree House - Queen Machine OG, courtesy of @Roguer:

Best looking hazy I've poured in a long while, in terms of the head. Deliciously fruit forward up front, but acidicly bitter and dry on the back end, which brought things back down to earth a bit at the finish. Still, a worthy beer.

Was going to hit another one of his beers but now I've discovered a can of Dark Persuasion I'd forgotten about, and that suits a cold evening such as this one, so I think I'll have that instead.

    Cheers!
