Russian River Robert




Bottle Notes: $7.39 12.68 oz bottle purchased refrigerated at Select Beer and refrigerated since returning this afternoon. Bottled 11/18/21 at 1:53 PM. Saison. Traditional Farmhouse Ale. 6.2% ABV

This duo of beers, Robert and Jannemie, is an homage to our dear friend Floris’s parents who have hosted us many times at their home in Antwerp, Belgium! Robert is a Saison brewed using both American and European malts and hops and a distinctive strain of farmhouse yeast. Primary fermentation took place in one of our unique open-top fermenters which are perfectly designed for brewing yeast forward styles like Saison. This beer has characteristics of white pepper and fruit with a lingering dry finish. Robert is refermented in the bottle creating a fine carbonation.

Appearance: Multiple pours into a pint sized pub glass yields a foggy orange yellow base and generous bubbly head with spiderweb lacing upon receding. Looks superb. 4.75

Aroma: Funky clove predominant, banana, freshly peeled orange, full strength. 4.25

Taste: Similar to the aroma, more subtle strength-wise with a broader reach. Banana and clove lead, nice pepper follows adding spice and balancing the sweet flavors. As I continue, lemongrass enters. Less funky than the nose, but level complements what’s going on here. 4.5

Mouthfeel: Faint prickly carbonation, lightly dry, funky sweetness wins out over a persistent coyote pepper and hop profile chasing throughout. Drinks super light and easy, light citrus and clove linger pleasantly. 4.25

Overall: This is a very enjoyable saison, with the wonderful pepper spiciness my post beer memory. Enjoying the flavors, elegant, enjoyable, easy, envious of those with regular access. 4.5
