    aloha all beer lovers,

I have been a heavy beer drinker with all 7 Trappist beer glasses, even the rare Westvleteren beer glass, even though the beer is hard to get. but had to give it up to health reasons.i am healthy now, but will not go back to drinking alcohol. but ran into the despised n/a beer in Whole Foods, and gave it a try. wow, I was surprised with how the n/a's have improved. the new market of n/a's has now opened up, but the 7 six packs I bought have been 50/50. 1 was returned to the store, it was flat, and the guy tried to tell me that is how it is supposed to taste, but he gave me my money back. another one is bad also, but I won't return it. now the search is on for the best n/a's I can find. and not pasteurized beer for long shelf life. I don't even know if you can cellar these n/a's, without spoiling, but the research is on for the new inventions of proper beer fermenting for the n/a's.

Many BA members are drinking NA beers now, especially with 'dry January' underway. I've been trying to drink one every other beer since last spring when I decided to cut down on alcohol intake. So you've got plenty of company.

If you haven't discovered the NA beer thread in the Beer Talk forum, here's a link to the 2023 version: https://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/na-abv-0-5-beers-2023.670632/ and the 2022 thread: https://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/na-abv-0-5-beers-2022.664128/ A lot of good info in both threads to help you decide which beers might be good for you.

I don't think any aging is possible for NA beers because of the lack of alcohol (or the low alcohol) and low amount of hops to help preserve the beer. If you experiment and discover otherwise please post that info in the 2023 thread.

P.S. Welcome to the BA site. Browse around to discover all of the great features.

While I still drink mostly alcoholic beers, I have come to enjoy and appreciate the NA beers available. They have much improved. And, I've found it's all in the approach to NA beers. I decided to give up soft drinks and sweet tea, instead I grab a NA beer or just drink them to give my liver a break. Once I started treating them as a separate beverage category rather than a complete substitute for beer, I began to enjoy them. Good for you! I'd love to see more NA beer reviews on BA, to help people find the good ones. Cheers!

I quit drinking five years ago, mainly neat spirits, too much work keeping the amounts down, so better to quit completely. Within a month I had my first NA beer on a cruise, and thought, yes!

I'm happy to see NA starts to be an alternative for many people. Welcome to BA!
