Not even close. I'd take either one all day long over an insipid macro lager or (*shudder*) a radler or a shandy.

Now, if they decide to bring back Hop'n Gator, all bets are off.

LOL I actually love Left Hand Milk Stout, but can't find it anywhere near me. That probably adds to my fondness for it.

I can only speak for regional hypes, but the first time I tried a Big Bad Baptist from Epic I wasn't that impressed.

Now I'll try it again before I give more judgement, but I was not at all pleased with how it tasted for a $15 beer.

Westvleteren 12 was a beer I was fortunate to try when a buddy brought it back from Belgium. It was sadly underwhelming considering the hype and effort needed to acquire it.

I agree w/ you on many of their beers, but what about Pseudo Sue? Were you able to drink it fresh? I think it's a dandy!

Okay, I can buy into that; your time will probably come. With few exceptions, I don't try DIPA unless I hear solid, favorable recommendations. Use caution with that style and you should be able to avoid "being smacked in the face. "

Once again, I am exactly the same way! While I am a fan of the IPA beer style, I have had too many DIPAs that are just too cloying sweet.

I was recently in a sort of conundrum with the recent re-release of Ruination IPA. To the best of my recollection I never had this beer before and I was more than a little concerned whether I would enjoy this beer. I read a few posts by BAs sharing their thoughts on the beer and frankly I had a fair bit of 'back and forth' thoughts on whether this would be a beer for me. I just decided to 'jump into the deep end of the pool' and purchase a six-pack and I am glad that I did. I discussed this beer in last weekend's NBW thread.

    "Overall:

    This beer is very good.

It is cleanly brewed such that for a 8.2% ABV beer you really do not perceive/taste the alcohol. I suppose this could be a ‘dangerous’ beer for the uninitiated?"

Bell's Two Hearted. I'm just not a fan of the Centennial hop when it runs solo.

I believe it was right around a month old(ish?), and it was quite tasty

If he just tried Younger, it had to be from a bottle and almost over a year old (given it comes out once a year in February). So there’s that aspect.

I agree 100%. I had it fresh in Belgium, and I’d take St. Bernardus 12 over it. On the other hand, I though 6 and 10 were amazing.

I'd choose Rochefort 10 over both any day.

Just picked up a 4-pack of Heady at a local Giant supermarket. $18.50. It was around a couple of months ago, think it went then for a buck less.
Heady is one of those true-blue beers, tremendous every time. Worth the price.

On the flip side, agree with Younger Pliny being meh. Also recently had a Blind Pig on tap. Same answer.
However, your honor, must confess, Pliny the Elder is the perfect beer.

Pliny and Heady, the Betty and Veronica of IPAs.

    SPOTTED COW.

It's a good beer but nowhere near the best beer New Glarus does.

I think we are at a time now where there are so many beers available average - good doesn’t cut it.

I will say for me this has kind of jaded me to what a “great” beer is.

Fair or not I find just a “good” beer not enough anymore, I want an exceptional beer every time.

Bell's Octoberfest is the first that springs to mind. I've given it multiple tries at this point and I think I just don't enjoy it.

Conversely, Julius and Sip of Sunshine totally lived up to the hype.
