Ah . Yea...90% of the beers in it aren't for people like us( based on stuff you drink i think our preferences for Stouts are similar). I can't even be angry that's what was in the box because thats what most people want these days.

At least you got Paraboloid and BA TenFidy. Those are awesome .

another one from the BA stout box (who had BA first - BeerAdvocate or Barrel-Aged?!? it gets confusing!)

this one is definitely on the sweeter side. i guess duh, vanilla.. but a lot of times with vanilla i get more of a chocolate flavor or it enhances the chocolate in the base stout but here it is more sweet maple and molasses. it’s good though. cheers!!

This thing had the most intense-fresh coffee grounds smell and taste of any stout I’ve ever had. Not sure I’d spend $50 on it again, but it was worth the tick

Thanatos coffee cake stout from Mortalis. I can see people going nuts over this. It’s got those pesky “natural flavors” which are always a knock for me. A little past my sweetness threshold, but the flavors of coffee cake are spot on

The 1993 Russian Stout is still improving. Or at least it was last time I tried one. I think I've still got 30 or 40 bottles of the 1992 and 1993 vintages.

Later versions definitely aren't the same recipe. This is the 1849 grist:

    pale malt 63.33%
    brown malt 25.06%
    black malt 2.76%
    amber malt 8.85%

And this is the one from 1976:

    white malt 67.35%
    amber malt 26.53%
    black malt 6.12%

The biggest difference being the lack of brown malt in 1976. I believe Harvey's use a Barclay Perkins recipe from the 1850s.

I've had a mix of both vessels. Not sure why, but they all tasted good regardless. You would definitely have liked this one. Nice and roasty with light adjuncts

A lot of houses that got refurbished in the 2010's have it (bought this in 2018). And they're outdated now

the aphotic series from voodoo is always solid. might be better/more consistent than the black magicks (although i know there’s a lot more black magicks out there)

    cheers!!

I assume that Harvey's isn't using brown malt either though.

Poured at fridge temp. Pours black with a very thin layer of brown head. Looks thick! The nose is peanut butter, malts, milk chocolate, vanilla, coffee grounds, a bit a wood. Very nice.

The taste is fantastic. Tons of chocolate, malts, slight toffee, brown sugar, peanut butter, some maple fudge, vanilla, oak, and coffee grounds. Wonderfully balanced and thick and creamy on the mouthfeel. Overall, a big winner for me.
