Chicago breweries that don’t need their own thread (2023)

I'll go.

Corridor Brewing has a pretty good Tripel on draft right now! They've fallen pretty far from their New England IPA / Cosmic Juice Box heyday, but they're a popular spot on the "Southport Corridor" scene for the stroller set. (Also, very close to the Music Box Theatre, which is why I keep going there.)

I heard a bartender tell someone recently that their current brewer ain't so hot on the hazies, but has a good handle on more traditional styles, and Fiendish Ol' Monk fits that nicely. Clove, banana, some orange peel; a well balanced brew.

They also have a decent, approachable rauchbier on draft as well!

If you go...they have a delicious giant hot pretzel with an AMAZING mustard dip. A must have.

 

I’ll ad Printers Row Brewing to this. Nothing special but it’s a good local neighborhood place to hit up. The jalapeño Bookbinder (released last spring) is very enjoyable. Good people, good spot. That’s all I got. Good night.

 

I reject your case. Off Color deserves their own thread. Their one-off releases are consistently fantastic. As I look to move away from high ABV beers, and towards flavorful, nuanced, and expertly-brewed beers, Off Color continues to rise up my local rankings.

 

We are a month and half into 2023 and this thread was the first mention of Off Color. They are not own thread worthy.

What, pray tell, constitutes a brewery’s worthiness of a thread in your eyes?

 

More than the 8 posts a year which OC is on pace to.

Edit: But you know there is nothing stopping you from making an Off Color thread.

So, worthiness is defined by…. If someone just does it? Is side project worthy of a thread? They have great discussions of BBQ and package pricing going on over there.

Numbers of posts, views feel (are?) down across the board in the ‘Great Lakes’ forum. I’m not sure the “discourage engagement / gatekeeping” camp is helping that, but maybe it’s just a sea change.

anyways, lots of fans of off color exist, they make some great, unique beers, and they’re dedicated to the craft. I, for one, am much more interested these days in people scoping out lesser known styles than talking about the big new hypebeast.

 

I’m not the arbiter of this site. If you think OC is worthy of its own thread, please by all means create it. If you aren’t regularly posting in it it will most likely get relegated to 8th or 9th page oblivion. At this point, if you don’t create a thread for OC, it means you agree with me about its worthiness.

 

I hate the idea of this thread, I don't want to check it to make sure a brewery I like has done something noteworthy. Just make a thread for the brewery, if it withers, fine, if 6 months from now there's something worth talking about people will know because the breweries thread has been bumped. I'm not concerned that BeerAdvocate is going to run out of space for threads.

 

right - I liked the Chicago flash drops, and the Chicago stout thread was the best thread. An “everything else” thread just cannibalizes the Dark Lord Day thread.
