16 ounce can, no dating on it that I noticed. Thanks to Brutaltruth for this brew! Served in a thistle glass, the beer pours a somewhat murky burnt orange/copper color with about an inch off-white head. Head retention is good, and there's a decent amount of lacing. The brew smells like honey, caramel, bready malt and a bit of smokiness. For the most part I think the taste is similar to the aroma, but with the addition of some toffee and fig flavors. Leans sweeter tasting but not too sweet tasting at all. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it's smooth and a bit creamy with a moderate amount of carbonation. I thought this was a good overall brew, definitely worth picking up if you get the chance!

From the 16 oz can in a snifter. This solid scotch pours a muddled dark
and cloudy copper with a very nice head of off white foam that settles to
a thick ring, thin dusty layer, and sports some excellent lacing. Nose of
caramel, dates, and subtle dark bread dashed with herbal honey notes.
Flavors hit the mark with rich caramel, toffee, bread crust, fig, date, subtle
peach, and nicely toasted malts drenched in herbal honey. Mouth feel
is medium, medium light carbonation, and a lightly sweet finish.

Overall, a fantastic scotch ale.

Cheers

When I thought about the approach of adding honey to this style it seemed a natural. Like sugar with rhubarb. This is usually a nasty style, but will they prettify it too much?

It pours nasty looking deep copper. The aroma does not warn of an impending big and nasty ale. Luckily, the style is tamed by the honey, tom some degree. I think it works and makes for a more palatable take on the style. I'll bet there were brewers that tried this long ago, so it's not a bastardization of an old style.

Highly recommended. This is a nice, usual brew.

16oz can. Poured out a dark, dark brown color with a small, khaki-colored head of foam. It left sudsy trails of lace on the glass. It smelled of roasted malt, toffee, caramel and smoked peat. It tasted of roasted malt, toffee, caramel and peat.

No date code? Poured from a tall-boy can into my Gordon thistle.

Dark, but seemingly clear cordovan body with cinnabar highlights rests beneath a low tan cap. Very fine lacing; fast running legs; average retention.

Rich, malty aromatics suggest black bread, treacle, and a hint of peat or tobacco. Very low sweet/grassy elements emerge as the ale warms.

Kettle caramelization, crème brûlée, toasted almonds, wildflowers, and faint char on the palate. Round, medium finish. Sweetness suggests cherry, figs, and plums, and is balanced by light earthy bitterness from the hops and a touch of astringency from the roasted barley.

Medium-bodied, chewy mouthfeel, warming but not hot.

An interesting, full flavored wee heavy, though the honey takes center stage ultimately.

when you see new off color beer, you buy it, never mind that this is your bring to a summer fourth of july party, never mind its a nice malty rich imperial scotch ale pushing 10% abv, never mind that its made with honey, total crowd pleaser right?! love it! not familiar with star thistle honey, but its unique in this, enough flavor from the honey to push through all the grains and contribute almost as much as the malt does. i love that. its got a gorgeous brick red color on it, deep mahogany tones, short but stocky off white head, good carbonation for this style that often doesnt require much, but its a neat feature. i smell heavy kilned malts, nutty as they come, molasses abounds, maple, toffee, but its not diabetic either, and there is a floral lightness to the honey that lifts it up. the yeast seems traditional too, and the refinement impressive for a bruiser like this. the taste agrees, amazing malt depth without pushing into roast or even chocolate ranges, impressive long boiled type caramelization and richness, hazelnut and amaretto notes in the mix, the springy honey in a wintery beer, and some finishing booze and sweetness that let me know its a beast, especially on a 100 degree day, but it didnt stop anyone from enjoying it as ravenously as i did. regretted getting so drunk the next day, but had a blast drinking this one, off color never disappoints, and here they have turned me on in a style that rarely does. bravo!

Dark brown opaque body with a tan head. Smell and taste are clones: toasted caramel, fresh nuts, earth, hints of booze, dark bread, hints of dark cocoa, and decent finishing mature honey. Feel is chewy, very smooth, full bodied, and sneaky heavy. Dark and full, leans sweeter but really pleasant on a cold rainy day. Certainly sweeter, but the honey really works, will have again!

Served from the can in a Lagunitas mason jar.

Pours a nigh-opaque garnet-sienna topped by over a finger of thick khaki foam. If Jnco made chinos. The nose barely registers to me, some dried caramel, dank greens, and maybe a hint of honey peeking through, taunting me with their faintness. The taste actually bothers to speak at an audible level, holding firm with the honey, darker greens, firmer caramel, and a whiff of pumpernickel. The body is a firm medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a thickly fluid feel. Not a bad taste of the highland wastes at all.

Released 2/13/22; drank 2/20/22 @ the Yarchives.

Opaque brown appearance.

A rough pour yielded a HUGE khaki head; frothy lace.

Acorn, honey, cream & mild caramel notes in the nose.

Sticky medium thick mouthfeel.

Honey & acorn flavors up front; caramel & cream notes on the finish.

A bit sweet, and not the most flavorful example of the style, but it's enjoyable.

16oz can, no canning date, but judging by their IG post it’s about 3 months old

Pours over a finger of pillowy tan head into a Mason jar. Retention is average, and the head mostly fades within a couple minutes, leaving behind a small sliver of foam. Initial lacing looks solid. Body is a dark burgundy, almost brown in color, low visibility. Looks pretty nice so far.

You get that honey immediately on the nose, it’s very fresh, floral, and inviting. Hopefully it won’t be too sweet, but honey usually ferments out well. Underneath that, there is a little bit of sweet grain/alcohol. Light esters of stone fruit. No peat, which I’m very happy about. Not really any caramel either, but it could very well be dwarfed by the honey, which is quite pronounced. While not super complex, this smells really nice.

Whoa flavor hits way different. Big caramel up front. Towards the middle of the palate, you get a malt sweetness, alcohol, some stone fruit, cherries. Alcohol and fruit come across sharp and tart, which is very welcome. Finishes with a good amount of honey that lingers for a hot minute. Right off the bat this has a lot going on. This is super good. The tartness plays so well with the sweetness here. All the flavors are well accounted for and come in at the right time.

The mouthfeel has a lot of character, this feels very alive. Carbonation is pretty high, and that works well with the tartness. Body is medium-large, its got a good chewiness to it. Sweetness is medium-high, but it’s balanced very well by the tartness, and it’s not cloying at all. Bitterness is not evident. This is very well done, the carbonation and tartness offset the sweetness, and this drinks with some energy.

Drinkability is very good. It’s super tasty, and the alcohol is more than welcome to help offset some of these other big characteristics.

Appearance turned out pretty good. The lacing was solid for the most part.

Overall a super flavorful, complex, balanced, and drinkable beer.
