Just drank the last one of my Hofbrau Winter Spezial I was hanging on to. Pounded this 8.4% beauty. Ridiculously easy to drink at 8.4%. Wow.
Yes, this is a recycled pic from December. I was too lazy to take a new pic. Just wanted to drink it. Forgive me WBAYDN BA's.

I was going to make a snide remark about how NY pale you are, but frankly I am just jealous. The beach and Jai Alai. Nice!

True. Those 11.2 oz bottles irritate me though. I am extremely grateful Paulaner, Weihenstephaner, etc. brought over the pint cans and Ayinger has the pint bottles. And now I can get Goller in pint flip top bottles! Yeah!

Lupulin NA Tropical Fun Pants Fruited Blonde Ale. Pours hazy light gold with a two-finger white head that left no lacing. Nose is tropical fruit reminding me of Juicy Fruit gum. Taste doesn't really follow. Not much flavor, no sweetness, slight bitterness, faint tartness. OK mouthfeel, overall very meh. This is missing more than the alcohol. I need to try the alcohol version to figure what all is missing.

After snowblowing in the middle of a blizzard (like bailing out a sinking boat), I had hoped to come in for a good beer. But alas, it's not. Apparently brewing a passable NA beer is more complicated than I imagined it to be.

Full review in the Cask Appreciation Thread. Bottom line, this is a coffee, would have benefited from a more balanced treatment.

Home from work, as the snow blows outside. Time for this, though, it's a bit of a disappointment. It is so heavy with the barrel, even after 2 years, that it overwhelms the flavors it should have.

The bottle says it was bottled in 2021.

There's a bit of smoke and a slight pop on the opening of the bottle. The beer pours pitch black looks somewhat thick while pouring. The beer even when held up to the light is still pitch black. The head is only 1 finger, and brown. The size of the bubbles is smaller and it looks frothy. The head does dissipate fairly quickly. There's no lacing on the glass.
The nose does have hints of chocolate in it, as well as marshmallow. The aromas are fairly light.
The flavor starts out strong with the bourbon barrel, and the barrel does seem to be the main flavor in this beer. Faint hints of chocolate and marshmallow do poke through. There's some sweetness here, but, again it's drowned out by the barrel.
Body is decent, I would have expected it to be more creamy feeling. The heat from the barrel does hit harder than I'd expect from a beer that's been in my fridge for 2 years.
It's an interesting beer, but I think this batch (and I'm not sure if it's a beer in their rotation, or retired) is way too strong with the barrel, and not as strong with the flavors that it should have.

And, I have to start my annual Irish authors read a bit early, can't wait anymore. I always do at least a month of Irish writers around March. Starting TransAtlantic by Colum McCann. One of the great Irish American writers now.

Whats that in the glass...an Irish Coffee, probably the best one in Houston ha. Oh, forgot to mention, at Better Luck Tomorrow. An excellent cocktail bar with great food, and pretty good beers to boot.

Deep, dark brown body, clear at the pour, looks black and opaque in the glass; dense, semi-sculpted, semi-creamy head, light khaki color; dense, sticky rings and patches of foam cling to the glass. Fine dark roasted malt and cocoa aroma; raw oak. Light milk chocolate and cocoa flavors with a bold burst of dark roasted coffee; slow-building bitterness tops out at the finish. Heavy body; smooth.

While not barrel aged, I did get a whiff of wood in the smell. But what really shines through is the coffee flavor. It dominates the bitterness and nicely offsets the malt sweetness. Balanced and bold.

Saint Arnold Spring Bock in the glass.

Spinning more CTI albums, and following @ATL6245 with some Chet Baker. She Was Too Good To Me spinning. I believe this was the first album he recorded after some drug dealers broke his jaw, and he had it reset :astonished:. It took him a while, but he finally came back with this album.
