I had a feeling that was going to happen with the anticipation and build up with the Ayinger Maibock. Never fails!

What would happen? Can you enlighten a little?

FWIW -- when Ayinger introduced their Bavarian Pils I found fresh 4-packs (at less pricey costs than these days) and found it an outstanding take on the style.

Maybe they just think Maibock needs to be alcoholic and dry -- dunno? Just not my take on the style.

Just wait until we start talking about the HB interpretation!

I seen you had finally found some and saying it better be special or someone will answer. I thought to myself and said watch it's not going to be special. What I meant by I had a feeling that was going to happen.

Well, most of what I said was in fun. My assessments are always "fair and balanced" to my interpretation of styles (nevermind Maibock is my second favorite style).

FWIW -- I had no expectations and interpreted my opinion blind. Also -- it was only the first of 4 -- I don't rate on only one sample.

    So, never assume.

How is the New Glarus Cabin Fever Maibock these days? I got a guy heading to near Stevens Point this weekend and I have him bringing me back some of that, as well as Lakefront Maibock, Point Bock and a crowler of Bock from Sawmill Brewing in Merrill. Just trying to decide how much of each to get and looking at my old review of Cabin Fever I was not impressed with it back in 2010. Not sure if I've had it since.

Also Summit and Schells are not doing Maibocks. I confirmed that although Summit says they are tossing around the idea of a limited batch release in the future.

Ok... No need for a explanation on your part. Your taking what I said farther than I anticipated.

I agree about the Andygator. I love bock beers and as many have noted, they are not always available from local/regional brewers, so I generally keep a few Andygators in the beer fridge all the time.

Here in Louisville there is an annual bock and wurst fest (March 25 this year). About a dozen local brewers will be offering their bock beers. To my knowledge none of the locals bottle any of their bocks and most run through their supply during the fest. Nevertheless, it’s a great local event and family friendly. There are even goat races (fashioned after the Derby, complete with the call to the gate). Louisville has a strong German heritage and from the 1850s until prohibition, the city celebrated each spring with a bock fest. I believe this year marks the 6th renewal. Louisville is a very “thirsty” city so we will be getting to the festival early to make certain we can have a few of our local brews before they are gone.

Not sure if your trip coincides with this event, but it may help others as well.

Half Acre is reopening their Beer Garden on April 1st with a “Strong Beer Time” Spring Celebration featuring I believe their Bock and additional beers from a few other breweries.

Looks interesting depending on the weather.

Also, Baphomet is still on tap and available at Revolution, though I’m not sure it will last until April (released in December or early January). I’ve never had Half Acre’s Bock, but do like (3.75) Revolution’s Baphomet.

    Jack,

Is this canned (I've not seen a Sly Fox bottle)? Or is it only available at the brewery?

Hmm ... Something to 'hunt' for. I'll be asking the local distributor who sells Ayinger about this one.

Is there going to be a Bock Tasting thread? Or is this thread it?

Yes, it is available in cans:

I do not know how widely distributed the cans are. My recollection is that I have always purchased six-packs at the Phoenixville Brewpub.

    Cheers!

Well I'm ready for some bocks.

Don't recall having a smoked doppelbock so that should be interesting.
