...yes, like I said, one of my favorite fish overall...Mrs. BeerGoot isn't the biggest fan of cod or halibut and such (not much flavor), but me, I do get flavor (based on cooking method) and texture...and 8 oz of these fish fill me up as much as an equivalent slab of beef...

    Pühaste - Memor Bourbon BA

Imperial Stout with coconut and maply syrup, aged in Bourbon barrels, from Estonia (13.5%).

Pours a pitch-black coloration with a tiny, frothy head. Smells of roasted, caramel malt, chocolate, coffee and coconut, with lighter maple syrup, dark/red fruits, with notes of raisin and plum, and hints of vanilla, bourbon and musty, tannic oak.

Taste is an excellent balance of roasted, caramel malt, maple syrup, chocolate, coffee and coconut, as well as some dark and red fruits, with notes of raisin, plum blackberry and redcurrant, as well as lighter vanilla, licorice, bourbon and hints of quite tannic, musty oak. Finishes with a medium sweetness and light roastiness, with some chocolate, coconut, maple syrup, dark/red fruit and tannic, bourbon-soaked oak lingering in the aftertaste. Full mouthfeel with a rich body and light/medium carbonation.

I have to admit that I was kinda wary of this at first. I mean, maple syrup and coconut, really? But the Silver Series really very, very seldomly disappoints and they have pulled this one off marvellously, not feeling sickly sweet at all and with hardly any sharp booziness coming through despite a rather deep bourbon presence that is especially rich in musty, tannic oak and dark and red fruits. I would really love to know which barrels were used here exactly. There's a great balance of roasted, sweet and tannic notes going on here, with quite strong chocolate and lighter coffee and licorice coming through here in addition to the additives and barrel notes.

I honestly bought this expecting to hate it, but putting my trust in the Silver Series, which was not disappointed. Not a Pastry Stout at all, but well-balanced and rich in barrel character, with a deep complexity, You know, I often argue that 750ml bombers are a terrible format for 13%+ ABV BA Imperial Stouts and that I really prefer these 330ml bottles we get in Europe, but I really wish that I had a 750ml bottle of this right now, high praise, indeed.

I love that beer, haven’t seen it around in a while and at its price it was a steal.

    Penn Dark
    5% Dunkel by Penn Brewing

Fewer notes than usual as I drank this Dunkel while playing board games. Poured from a twelve ounce bottle, the body was cola color with a small head. Slight lacing.

Aroma and flavor were toasty malt. Body also had a moderate bitterness with a hint of sweet malt. Light to medium body and okay mouthfeel. An easy drinking beer that was very enjoyable.

Well, back home after a fun fishing trip. We were thinking about staying one more night at the resort, but only catching 6 sunnies wasn't enough to justify staying.
Now to my next new beer:
Limited Batch 008: Scotch Ale - August Schell Brewing - New Ulm, MN - 7% ABV

My rating of it is over 2% lower than the average, but I did love this beer, and it went down stupid fast.

This beer pours a deep mahogany color. When held up to the light I get hints of amber in the color. The head is 2 finger and tan. Head retention is decent. There's a bit of lacing on the glass.
The aroma is a bit of caramel coming through. I also get some dark chocolate in the aroma.
Taste - is a pleasing mix of chocolate and caramel flavors. Caramel seems to be more up front and the chocolate hits more on the back and lingers. I get hints of raisin coming through in the flavor as well. This is a very malty beer.
Body is pretty solid and full feeling. Very smooth feeling.
Delicious beer and another solid beer from Schell's.

I think I've got another in me. Be back in a bit.

I think they have enough flavor & can be used as a nice neutral when trying to deliver other flavors. I certainly feel that way about Shrimp as well

Great read. I was enthralled when I learned of the various possible origins of our modern bagpipes. From ancient Egypt, to Turkey and northern Africa. Really interesting how much cultural exchange transpired throughout history, and the meandering paths our ancestors took with their beliefs, artifacts, etc...

Smell- Tangerine, grapefruit, bubblegum, pine, medium strength of scent.

Taste- Tangerine, grapefruit, pineapple, slight pine, moderately bitter, medium strength of flavor.

Feel- Full body, highly creamy, average carbonation, moderately bitter, silky, mildly mouth coating, mildly dry finish.

903 has been brewing so many different canned beers that sit on the shelves in Texas that I've lost count so long ago. I stopped buying their beers, because everything from them has been pretty garbage. Their latest offerings are high abv pastry stouts aged on "oak" or "whiskey soaked oak" in slim "think O.G. Redbull" cans for about $5 a can. Pure crap!

Greetings all from the great northwest where we are watching the Gonzaga Bulldogs close out the first weekend of the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament.

We have the double chocolate stout from Rogue.

Very chocolate. Like an old fashioned chocolate soda, with 9% alcohol.

    Until next time Go Zags!

    Evening, all.

Hope y'all had a great holiday weekend for those that observe St. Patrick's Day.

Found a couple NBW candidates from @Roguer that were hiding in my fridge.

This one was dispatched on Friday.

Both had held up very well despite my getting to them shamefully later than when I should have.

These were the only green beers I drank during the course of this St. Patrick's.

Me too @NorsemanOne, that was a fun write up for me.

If I remember correctly quite a few regions in between. País Vasco is farther west and closer to where Spain connect to France.

Asturias is a really cool place to that borders Galicia to the west, huge mountains. Picos de Europa is a national park, or equivalent?, there that is very pretty.
