More specifically good west coast IPA beers here in Michigan.
I’m Jon, moved here to Michigan from Arizona recently. I’m always on the hunt for a good west coast IPA. Reminisce of the stone ruination or 11th anniversary ale (sublimely self righteous). I’ve come across some good local double black ipa (Short’s Goodnight Bodacious, Fillmore 13 in Pontiac has a killer double black rye ipa that is probably the best ipa I’ve ever had) and a few good double IPAs. There are so many new beers here that I’m finding myself on BA getting details and reading reviews quite often so I figured I’d join.
Todays score was Double Crooked Tree IPA from Dark Horse Brewery. 84 IBU. Solid malt backbone. And not —fruity juicy hazy—

    cheers

Welcome to Michigan. You're on a good path by trying the IPAs or DIPAs from Shorts. Not all are WC IPAs, but most of their specialty/seasonal ones do. Griffin Claw also has a good one called Norm's Raggedy Ass IPA. https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/32166/97314/

Others that might work for you:
    Blackrocks has 51K https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/25045/99602/
Grand River has Monkey Mouth https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/36365/178599/
    Greenbush - Star ChickenShotgun https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/25937/104849/
Kuhnhenn's DRIPA has a nice rice DIPA https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/2097/36988/
Those are the ones that I can think of that have distro, although maybe not where you live.

If really good NEIPAs are to your liking, Old Nation's M-43 or Boss Tweed are outstanding in that style. https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/41783/

If you're in the Detroit area, you can drive to Toledo and get some of Fat Head's Head Hunter. It's worth the drive https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/19544/50564/

P.S. Welcome to the BA site. Hang around as much as you'd like. Consider joining the Society to eliminate the ads, and you'll enjoy it more. https://www.beeradvocate.com/society/

Hi Jon, Welcome to Beer Advocate!

One of the best WCIPAs I'm able to get consistently is from your state, 4 Giants by Founders. I also love Fat Head's Head Hunter, which unfortunately doesn't make it here, but I pick it up when I'm east of here.

Looks like @PapaGoose03 has you covered with more local options.

Also jones for WCIPA in Chicago, really greatful for our annual drop of Amalgamator by Beachwood, and semi-regular fresh FW Union Jack and AleSmith IPA we get on occassion.

    Welcome Jon!
BA definitely has the resources to help with your search.
    Enjoy your time here!

Also, I dig your handle. I too, sometimes use 13 to represent the B in my name.

Thanks for the recommendations. I really cannot stomach the NE IPA, hazy fruity juicy unfiltered, just ain’t right to me. M-53 and Raggedy Ass both have some of those qualities. Will keep an eye out for the others!

Hey when was that double crooked tree bottled? I've been wanting to try it and hoping to get some that's 3 months or less old.
