Update- (5/8/2023) Just was gifted a second bottle this weekend!! My family must really think I like beer... (I do.)

So now I can drink one this year and depending on how I feel about it, save the other one for something down the road! Really looking forward to this one.

Have you had other barleywine from Goose island, if so how does this compare? I have not had the King but the others I've tried have been stellar.

My guess is that it still isn't as good as it was younger. I recently had a bottle of 2013 BCBBW and it was a shell of it former self. Not bad by any means but not as magical as it was younger.

I've been lucky to have had both KH fresh and at various ages up to four years, and have gotten to try BCBBW '13 from when it was put out to a bottle pulled as recently as two years ago. First, IMO, nothing beats KH "fresh". Second, some bottles of the '13 have suffered a bit from age, some more, some less, but the last one I had was as magical as any I've had along the way. After reading @LSMroz disappointment above, though, I think I will pull one for my May beer for the start of the May Sumo Basho this weekend. Fingers crossed

I had 2 bcbbw from 2013 last year and they very different. Neither was bad but one was clearly better. The one I enjoyed less had a little rust on the cap. Hope yours is a winner!

I had BCBBW '13 in November and it was still drinking great. No hints of oxidation on the bottle I opened. I think it just has a lot to do with cellar conditions. If I had to compare from memory I would say King Henry was better, but maybe time to open another '13 to compare.

Having said that, I am a big proponent of fresh being better when it comes to dark beers with few exceptions.

Another from @Beersnake1 thanks as always Tim!

Cabin Fever from Drowned Lands, foeder aged barleywine.

This is really nice, bright and vibrant, almost refreshing actually. Dried apricots and orange marmalade served with candied nuts and short bread cookies comes to mind. It's dry overall with an herbal tea/oak tingle at the end. A wonderful change of pace, thanks Tim!

Komes Barleywine from Browar Fortuna in Poland.

Aroma of burnt sugar, toffee, and a bit of fruitiness - peach, black cherry. Taste is similar, but not overly sweet. Not boozy for a 12% beer. Sticky mouthfeel, medium bodied.

That's awesome. Now you don't have to worry about what the peanut gallery (us) has to say about aging it. Mine should be coming next week

I still cannot believe there was a layer of Xyauyu in my box from @FBarber thank you so much Frank! Your generosity is flabbergasting. I had a bottle of 2014 Etichetta Oro Gold in 2021 and it is my highest rated barleywine yet. So glad I get to revisit this one. This is the first of 3(!) different varieties he sent me.

This is packaged with a standard wine cork, but it comes with a cork/cap combo for resealing to enjoy overtime. Having 3-4 ounces tonight. This is as magnificent as I remember and everyone who loves barleywine should seek this out. The bottles are undeniably expensive, but this is a singular experience not to be missed. Just going to copy and paste my review from a couple of years ago, it's still rings true to me.

Oh my, this is heaven. Aromas of honey, graham crackers, marshmallow, Belgian chocolate, vanilla, brown liquor, and faint, vinous fruit blanketed by enticingly gentle warmth. On the tongue this is quite sweet, but the layers of complexity keep this from even approaching cloying levels of sweetness. Everything from the aroma is here, in rapturous, sublime harmony. This is perfect, just perfect.

Have never heard of the beer or the brewery. From my immeasurable instincts, I would guess it’s foreign? Is it still?

It's from the Italian brewery Baladin and it is still and sublime.

    Onto the review:

Nose is kind of different, catching some oak, stone fruit, and citrus.
Taste is a large malt base that give notes of orange, apricot, and a touch of peach. Hopping is pretty adequate and finishes well balanced.
Mouthfeel is very nice with a medium to full body and very smooth.
Overall this drinks like a hybrid American Barleywine and old school DIPA which really works for my palate! Thank you, Tim, @Beersnake1 for the opportunity to try! Rated 4.21

@DIM Should we reclassify this to be an ABW?
    Cheers!
