Happy Mothers Day to all the Moms!
Unfortunately it's been a rough week with the Mrs losing her Mom Thursday and in addition this week has been a real kick ass at work including today.
However I'm off now and ready to start my weekend. Got a beautiful plant on the way home and there just so happened ahem to be a store in the vicinity.
    Wormtown of Worcester U.H.P. DIPA
I happen to love the town.
Hazy amber with a 2 finger creamy white head. Great retention and lacing.
As the can says it does have a candy (they say bubblegum) but for me more of a cotton candy aroma, overipe pineapple, juicyfruit, papaya.
The taste is very pleasant with mango and papaya, some lemon lime. Not in your face for sure. Honey malts and low bitterness, aspirin.
Creamy feel, gentle carbonation, dries a bit with a touch of pine and/or citrus pith. Length of flavors seems to be lacking. Can kind of taste a little different yeast profile but there's not alot of wow that's different here. It slides down quite easily for 7.7%
Good, OK. And maybe the title is appropriate because I don't identify any huge difference or recognizable hop profile. I'm not an expert by any means just my opinion. 17 bucks is it worth it? I would try but won't buy again. In this sea of hazies now you really have to stand out. IMHO this didn't. I have more though!
Doing some pizzas in the Roccbox for the Mrs. Catch you later. Gummies are just taking affect. Gotta relax these tight neck and shoulder muscles.
    Cheers![IMG]

    Good afternoon NBW
    More coffee stout
    [IMG]
    Alesmith Speedway Stout
12oz bottled on Nov. 16 2021 (no thanks to the barely visible etching in the glass above the label that i can only see now that the bottle is room temp) poured into a Spiegelau stout glass at fridge temp 12% ABV. The beer pours dense black with light brown colored head. The head recedes to a thin cap and leaves a web of lacing. The aroma is mild with roasted malt and coffee. The taste is bittersweet roasted malt with weak coffee. Moderate bitterness. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with average carbonation and a mostly dry finish. Overall, ok, but not the world class beer I expected. Not likely to purchase another Alesmith product with the hidden date etching...

I'll probably take a minute here after these two. Might come back later...

Well, I made my decision. It may be a mistake, but one hell of a tasty one. It is also in honor of the insanity of the weekend over in Wisconsin.

    Cuvee Blend (2023) - 3 Sheeps Brewing - Sheboygan, WI - American Imperial Stout - 13.4% ABV

Well, this year's blend is 33% Barleywine aged in bourbon barrels, 33% Quad aged in whiskey barrels with figs and molasses, 33% RIS aged in bourbon barrels.

Damn! This is a complex beer overall, as would be expected with the 3 base beers and barrels used to age them. My review sure as heck doesn't do justice to this beer. It blows me away, and I am happy as heck I bought it. Added to the database, and first review:

    From a bottle:
Nice hiss upon opening the bottle, with lots of smoke coming from the bottle. Very thick looking beer from the bottle. Pitch black in color. The head is 2 1/2 finger and tan colored. The head retention, which surprised me, is great for such a high ABV beer mix. After the head dissipates, there's no lacing on the glass.
The nose has a lot of pleasing aromas. I get tons of dark fruit - plum, raisin, dates. I also get chocolate, caramel, and toffee. I get notes of whiskey and I also get notes of a sweet molasses. Jeez, this aroma is just complex as heck.
Taste - Wow! It is a smooth flavor. I am getting so much off it. I get some chocolate to start me off. Caramel and toffee seem to hit next. After, the dark fruits seem to hit - full of date, plum and raisin. I also get a shot of whiskey and molasses on the back. Throughout the whole thing, none of the flavors dissipate, but each layer adds to the previous one.
Wow, this is a thick boy. Full bodied as all heck, yet smooth. There's only a very faint burn from the ABV that tells you to take it slow and easy.
Damn, this is an amazing beer. It is so well made, and I highly recommend it.

After this, I sure as heck can't see me trying another new beer, or any more tonight. Have a good weekend, and cheers all.

New beer from a new brewery courtesy of @ovaltine in BIF 17

Brewers notes we made the special double IPA in celebration of our 11 year in the beer business. We pride ourselves on the liquid we produce here at Bare Hands. Some of our fans think that we really do well are the many offerings of hoppy beers. We made this beer in honor of those that enjoy their hops. we packed this baby with hopping pounds of Simcoe, Amarillo, and citra hops, and then added loads and loads more for an enormous DryHop inducing huge flavors of pine citrus and Straugjt danky aromas that will leave you wanting more. 10.5% ABV.

Chilled 16 ounce cans poured into a pretentious beer glass. Produces an orange hazy liquid capped by three fingers of off-white, shaving cream foam , great retention great lacing

Dude, this smells dank dude, some pine, done orange citrus

    Taste is dank,pine

Sudsy mouthfeel , smooth, gentle hop nibble that nicely lingers

West coast meet Midwest to produce a good Midwest coast dipa

    Good beer here @ovaltine

Happy mothers day and nbs to all. This weekend me and Julia went to a Haken and Arch Echo concert and got up plenty of pubs in Charlotte. An amazing weekend and prog metal show.

Had a good 7 mile hike at park road park today and Marion Diehl park in CLT. After lunch/bookstore hunts at lunch. Now we came to olde Mecklenburg brewery Biergarten.

Olde Mecklenburg hornets nest. This is an amazing hefeweizen. Aromas and flavors of big banana, bubblegum, clove, wheat, bread dough, herbal, floral, grass, peppercorn, yeast earth. Lt med herbal/woody bitterness and yeast spiciness on the finish. Light yeast tang/tarness. Light med soft silky wheat body. Lingering sticky resin drying. No astringent. Very flavorful and refreshing. Pretty crisp. One of the best hefeweizen I've tasted. 4.35

Saw this in the local bottle shop (Colorado local) and had to try it.
Not even going to try and spell that correctly, but this is or was the number one in the style here so I have been looking for it.
Poured cola dark brown with a good tan head that dissipated slowly.
The taste was barbecued marzen- smoked malt somehow evokes barbecue sauce and to top that, it works astoundingly well in this beer. No bitterness, but there are undertones of grassy flavors (none of this sounds good to non beer drinkers, does it) The bready malts are reminiscent of rye bread, and all of it together makes for a really good flavor.
The feel was excellent, just enough carbonation to keep it lively without harshing the mellow.
I can see why some people really love the style. I don’t know if I will ever love the style but I certainly appreciate more than I did.
    Cheers all!

Let's get into some Longlive while my pizza dough rises. Yes I did prep and cook for 300 today but mom is the most important- and she's the only one I have left.
    Days Months Years DIPA
Hopped with Citra, Michigan Copper and Centennial. Well that's interesting right away because I've never heard of MC so looking forward to that. I cheated on this a bit because I looked up the characteristics of MC (Hawaiian fruit punch, black cherry, red hard candy, and hibiscus resin.)
The mind will sometimes make you think you detect something.
Truly though alot of us here can detect the major characteristics of the most common hops. Always interesting to try something different.
The last hop I thought that was really interesting was the Anchovy (watermelon).
    Shit, blabbing.
Pours a very hazy pale yellow with a huge creamy white head. Tons of staying power and lacing.
So...yes I get lots of mixed fruity notes (swidt) big peach, pineapple, papaya, big rose! Seriously it just hit me, unless that's the plant I just bought for my wife..nope roses. Like I mowed the lawn and when finished walked past a rose bush....and the lemon I dropped last week when the bag broke.
And there it is in taste- punch! Yup its a bit sweet and smooth. Ive never seen or purchased black cherries but if I had I would think yes there is a dark fresh fruit, might be blueberries but it adds a dark depth.
Creamy, smooth, pilsner malt with a tangy, bitter piney finish. It tingles a bit like your hand when you sleep on your arm.
If you haven't tried this hop and like fruit punch and black cherries, highly recommended. Or just give it a try.
    Cheers![IMG]

Olde Mecklenburg gave Julia a weizen glass inside when we ordered food at the regular bar. The hornets nest looks perfect and she loves it too.

Olde Mecklenburg unforseen ipa. Great ipa. Aroma and flavors of red grapefruit, orange, citrus peel/ rind, peach, pineapple, passion fruit, mango melon, red berries, wood, mint, peppercorn, pine, cracker, toast, herbal, floral, grass. Good sized pine/rind bitter finish. Medium creamy bready body, balanced sticky/resin drying finish. No astringency. Calista, Simcoe, Centennial, and solero hops. Great balance of west coast style character between dank American and earthy/peppery German hop aspects. No complaints. 4

Olde Mecklenburg bock party. A great maibock. A touch of diacetyl on the Aromas. Aromas and flavors of big honey, white bread dough, cracker, toast, biscuit, light nutty/caramel, wood, peppercorn, pine, herbal, floral, grass, yeast earth. Bit of banana/clove/bubblegum. Lt med pine/woody/herbal bitter finish. Medium body balanced creamy/bready malt and sticky hop feel. Lingering resin drying with no astringent. Clean lager flavors and not overly yeasty. Very well made for the style. 4

Aromas and flavors of honey, caramel, bread dough, toast, biscuit, nutty, wood, pepper, herbal, floral, grass, light pine/yeast earth/diacetyl. Lt med pine/herbal/woody bitterness on the finish. Medium carb/body and fairly crisp clean refreshing finish. Balanced creamy grainy malt and sticky hop feel. Very clean lager flavors. Perfectly balanced rich/clean nutty vienna malts and earthy noble hop flavors. Very flavorful for 4.9%. One of the best vienna lager I've had for sure. 4.43

12oz can from a variety pk into a pint glass.
L: Pours radiant straw bright yellow w a few large steady carbo bubbles, a 1/4" soapy white head w good retention, spotty antique lacing.
S: Citrus pith, citrus zest, slightly tropical, very light malts. On the light side of aroma.
T: Tropical fruits like mango, light pineapple, citrus zest+pith, white grape, moderately tart overall, a hint of stone fruit, a very light hint of yeast, some wild honey, light melon, and a touch of malt in the finish. Citrus zests gently dominate the fruit tastes.
F: Lightly brisk, clean medium-light-bodied feel w a med-fast length lightly drying finish.
O: Severely EZ drinking for its ABV. Clean taste & feel make that happen. Nice fresh citrus zest as claimed. Quite refreshing and is very good in its style.

Poured from a bottle with the best I can determine is best by 2024, so relatively fresh?!?
A - Beautiful light copper/gold color, gentle carbonation feeds a thin white cap. Clarity leaves nothing to hide.
S - Cracker, rising fresh bread, a hint of orange jam, with a bit of resin.
T - The aromatics lead the palate, with a bit more earthy hop
M - Lite on the palate. crisp and dry finish, balanced, with a semi sweet start and tight dry finish
O - Oh this would something on cask!! A Bitter in the classic sense, one that is hard to hide flaws in. Thankfully there none
