Poured from a 12 ounce can into a Teku glass.

Look- Pale straw, clear, white frothy head, average head retention and lacing.

Smell- Lemon, clementine, floral, medium strength of scent.

Taste- Clementine, lemon, herbaceous, medium strength of flavor.

Feel- Medium body, average carbonation, no astringency, low bitterness, crisp.

Overall- Pale straw with average head retention and lacing. Bouquet was lemon and clementine with floral notes. Flavors were clementine and lemon with some herbaceous character. Feel was medium body for style with a crisp finish. Overall this was a refreshing beer on a warm evening that had more vibrant bouquet and flavors than expected.

Greetings from West Otter Lake, NBS friends. After a beautiful day on the lake where Ranger was intrigued by the ducks flying past his boat …..

Fortunately, he did not try to dive in and chase those dastardly ducks.

On to the beer. I purchased a couple of the WCIPA boxes (because that is my favorite beer style) and to say I’m impressed this far would be an understatement of mythical proportions. Thanks to @Todd for once again putting together a magnificent box of beers for us to enjoy.

A common theme in the beers I’ve tried thus far is they all have Mosaic hops.

I love Mosaic hops, so keep that in mind as I share this beer from El Segundo Brewing Company.

    Let’s GOOOOOOO!!!!!

Pours a beautiful unfiltered gold color with a creamy white head that provides a nice amount of lacing. Love the look of this WCIPA. The nose has dank tangerine, resiny pine, and some berry notes.

The tangerine and pine notes are forward on the taste, and provide a great flavor profile, with a nice amount of bitterness that is complemented by a refreshing berry flavor at the back of the palate. This is a definite “sit at the bar and drink a couple of pints” kind of beer that I enjoy so much.

The mouthfeel is crisp and fairly dry, adding to the drinkability. Another really good WCIPA from a terrific box of beers in that style.

    Yards high dive pilsner
...pale semi clear light gold appearance with a minimal white head
...medium carbonation with a slightly thin body but overall its crushable which is what I assume they are going for.
....aroma is cereal, malt, slight bitter citrus peel but not one particular thing dominates.
....taste doesn't stray too far from the aroma with a mild malty sweetness matched by some hop bitterness.
...overall its a safe summertime beer. I would have this with company as it could please enthusiasts but wouldn't be too much for the bud, colors crowd[IMG]

Nice review. I know that I would like this beer and I'll get friends to bring me a few. I love the area and have many relatives- back to the 1700s- that peopled much of this territory. Thanks for the heads up!

#2, I’m sticking with the BA beer boxes that have been offered here the past few years. This is my first beer from Finback and is from the Extreme Stout box @Todd put together.

To say the least, I am PUMPED.

Pours a pure onyx black with a dense, dark tan that surprisingly provides some lacing. The nose has roasty coffee notes, vanilla, some coconut, and a bit of peanut butter.

Roasty coffee notes lead the taste, and are delicious, followed by a nice peanut butter flavor and some vanilla, but the coconut is MIA on my palate.

The mouthfeel is rich, creamy, and decadent, on point for the style. If this is a seasonal from Finback, I’d buy this every year.

I'm a big fan of Allagash beers overall, and their Coolship series is particularly impressive. I believe they were the first "modern" brewery in the U.S. to brew lambic style beers.

Bottled February 15, 2018. Pours a fizzy, mostly clear orange with a small amount of short-lived white head. Aroma has all kinds of oaky, musty funk. Cherries have completely faded from the nose, but the earthy funk is still very nice.

On the tongue this has a wine-like quality to it. Light, dry, clean and crisp with lots of earthy, musty horse blanket funk. Tart, but not over the top, with some nice spices on the back end.

    Overall, really good beer.

Greetings, New Beer folks! It's not going to be much of a beer weekend for me, New or otherwise. Tomorrow I'll be on an all-liquid diet for a medical procedure on Monday, and that diet does not, alas, include one of my favorite liquids.

Still, tomorrow is a day away, so let's have a New Beer!

(Standard disclaimer: No review posted yet, as I'm still working out the numbers.)

Bow and Arrow Sunface White IPA
16-ounce can purchased at Wildwood Taphouse, Hillsboro, OR. Couldn't find a date stamp anywhere on the can. Enjoyed in a nonic half-pint glass.

    Look:
It's a hazy IPA! The opaque body is a vivid orange-gold. The head is chalk white, a bit loose, and fluffy looking. It disperses quickly and leaves a few scraps of lacing.

    Smell:
It's a witbier! Coriander flies out of the glass first, pungent and spicy. It is followed by sweet orange, some wheat cereal funk, and a sharp note of orange peel.

    Taste:
It's a witbier! With an absurd amount of coriander! There's also a good amount of orange peel and warm bread flavors up front, followed by a delicious anise note in the middle. When I reach the finish...It's a hazy IPA! Tons of orange marmalade, a hit of grapefruit, and a tongue-coating resiny bitterness.

    Feel:
It's a hazy IPA! Medium-bodied with moderate carbonation that's good for an IPA but would be harsh and obtrusive in a witbier. Similarly, the mouthfeel is too heavy for a witbier, and heavier than I like in a clear IPA, but just right for a hazy.

    Overall:
Is it a witbier or a hazy IPA? It's...a white IPA! I haven't had a lot of these (it's always been a pretty rare style), but the ones I've tried ended up tasting like a too-hoppy wit or an IPA with some token wheat in the grist. Sunface, on the other hand, really seems to nail the White IPA concept. The citrus and unfiltered characteristics of a hazy IPA pair well with the wheat and spices of the witbier side. The coriander does a good job of making up for the lack of Belgian yeast.

Very interesting beer. I'd like it more if the orange and alcohol were dialed back a bit, and the comical levels of coriander were pulled back a lot.

Thanks to @JackHorzempa for kicking things off today. My first new beer for the weekend is compliments of @DIM - Small Batch #02 from Goose Island. A wheatwine aged for two years in bourbon barrels. Comes in at 15.5% ABV!

Poured at fridge temp. Pours very dark brown, with little head. The nose is phenomenal. Lots of bourbon barrel, tons of sweet toffee, slight molasses, plums, and raisins. Just lovely.

The taste is big and bold. Sticky toffee screams out from this one! Definitely some strong bourbon notes - vanilla and some oak. Molasses, raisins, honey, figs, and a hint of port. This is just so rich and flavorful. Might be the best wheatwine that I have tried. Not overly sweet, which has happened a few times with wheatwines for me.

The mouthfeel is medium bodied, but nice and sticky and chewy. The aftertaste is full of sweet toffee. The ABV is not noticeable at all. Dangerous! Thanks, Dan!

I can never age or time these right but what the heck, let’s see if we did it right finally.

Visual is true to the image. Nose is brandy and plum. Malt. Brown sugar. Treacle. Sediment from whiskey barrels.

Tastes awesome. Initially was a little oxidized but as it met the environment it woke up. Lively and punchy. Malt. Brown sugar. Coffee and caramel. Wood. Minerals. Maybe a smidge of oxidized hops but they’re so delicious.

Super happy I pulled this, and will drink them up this year. Cheers!

    Two roads Persian lime gose
....slightly thin body with light carbonation but still adds up to a nice feel
...aroma is a strong hit of fresh lime, especially the peel. Theres a really nice hit of grain in the background and some earthy sweet honey.
..taste is very similar to aroma but the sourness and salt show up in an intense way.
...its a really good gose that I would try again[IMG]

Social Project Brewing's Orange You Glad Milkshake IPA ( Orange Creamsicle ) 8.2% ABV; 3.8 overall

Pours a very hazed amber with cream colored head. Decent head retention & lacing

S: Citrus peel, a little vanilla, tails off once warm

T: Tangerine, a little lime, & a hint of vanilla, plus dryness up front. Some sweet & tart orange, a little dryness & a little vanilla as this beer warms up. Finishes a little dry, with some bitter & sweet orange

MF: Medium body, restrained carbonation, good balance

Drinkable for the ABV, but was looking for more sweetness. I am a big fan pf a well executed Milkshake IPA, this doesn't meet the mark

Late start for me, juggling Summer outings, Sox baseball and the World Series of Poker. Two from a growing local favorite Hop Butcher planned for the weekend.

Got snookered, excited after three beers including a BA heavy hitter and seeing Amarillo without checking the date. The devil made me do it. It's a Red IPA, so hopefully it held up well refrigerated.

Hop Butcher For The World Satan's Mile

    Can Notes:
16 ounces canned 1/11/23 (can note Miles Not Smiles), purchased refrigerated at Hop Butcher on 6/9/23 and thereafter until now. ABV 6.66%. Amarillo, Chinook & Mosaic hopped, Red India Pale Ale. Tasting Notes: Sweet Pine, Fruit Punch, Juicy Grapefruit. Brewed and canned by Hop Butcher For The World in Chicago, Illinois and Bedford Park, Illinois.

    Appearance:
3/4 of the 16 oz can poured into a shaker pint glass. Murky chestnut brown bronze base, creamy soapy tan white head lingers a couple minutes before leaving a thin bubbly cover over the base, thin lace slides down after checking out the view. 3.75

    Aroma:
Grapefruit, cinnamon toast, citrus, mild in strength, enticing. 4.0

    Taste:
Strength much stronger than the aroma. Bitter pine and rye malt battle for supremacy, getting a grapefruit backing but the cinnamon toast is not there, which is for the best. Thinking the ravages of time may have increased the malt presence in this one, but hops strong enough to win out in the end at this stage.3.75

    Mouthfeel:
Very dank, lightly dry, drinks stronger than the ABV. Medium watery body, light gentle carbonation, hop bitterness wins out over malt sweetness despite the age, dry rye finish. 4.0

    Overall:
With the nice hop build, rye and pine bitterness, this definitely hits my wheel house. Will revisit with a fresh batch if I see it again and present an updated review if the details change significantly. Regretted the impulse purchase upon returning home and first noting the can date, but it all worked out in the end like it typically does with a Hop Butcher beer. 4.0

My Sunday selection was part of a trade with a legendary Beer Advocate. Till then, may the beers treat you well!

Poured from a can at fridge temp. Pours very dark brown - almost black. Almost no head. The nose is salted toffee, chocolate, malts, and slight roasty note.

The taste generally follows the nose but a bit more roasted malts. Nutty, chocolate, salt, vanilla, milk, and leather. Slight dark fruit, but not overpowering. Mouthfeel is pretty thick and creamy. Overall, a really nice porter.

Good evening NBW friends. Spent the morning sorting the church's music library with the missus. Complete chaos has been reduced mildly annoying disorder, so we still have some work to do. Significant progress was made. Was going to cut my foot tall "lawn" in the afternoon, but oh darn...it rained.

    In the glass:

Another find from Proclamation. This one is Haljita, a sahti-inspired oak aged brett pale ale. The brewer's notes say brett funk jumps out if the glass (yikes...) and that there's lots of pineapple and peach. Full disclosure - sampled on tap last week and found it intriguing so wanted to spend more time with a bigger serving.

The pour is a slightly hazy dark golden color with a foamy inch of white head. The head falls to a very respectable cap, some stickage to the glass.

The smell is bretty but I would say it stops short of full on barnyard funky. Juicy pineapple, a hint of lemon. Green tea, honey-like sweetness. There might be a whiff of earthy ginger in there - it's there, but just a tease. Clean, crackery malt.

This is kind of a flavor riot. Brett character leads but again not overly funky, then sweet pineapple and peach (absent in the nose), honey sweet, green tea, mildly tart. Fleeting ginger-like spiciness, cracker malt. The sum is greater than the parts - if I don't try and pick it apart, it's just a very highly flavorful beer.

It's full bodied, slightly sticky. The aftertaste is lemon and slightly peppery, a bit of green tea phenolics.

I like this beer - it makes me smile and I have never tasted anything quite like it. Is it a true sahti - maybe not quite. I'm not getting much identifiable hop character so I don't know if it is hopped or not, and I certainly get no sign of juniper, but it looks unfiltered. It is rustic but cohesive somehow and it has flavor in spades. I'm going around 4.0. If you are looking for something different, it's worth a try.
