Good day BAs! Thanks @Victory_Sabre1973 for starting this weekend's thread! Yesterday was nice albeit cool and today is starting off with a little rain. Mixed news for the garden.
    Today's New Breakfast Beer:

Toxic Earth from Abomination Brewing, Company, North Haven, CT. 16 fl oz can from a trade with @woodchipper. Reviewed 09/07/23 (Review 3136). Note that I use DD/MM/YY protocol.
Stamped on can bottom in tiny font “04/03/23”. Stored at 34 degrees at home. Served at 53.4 degrees F in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter. The final temperature was 64.2 degrees F. The can was rolled several times before opening since matcha is to be consumed.
    Appearance – 4.
First pour – Bud Green (Hex #7BB661), opaque.
Body – Same. Under direct light, same but with precipitate. When rear lite, same.
Head: Large (Maximum 4.5 cm, aggressive center pour), wheat, high density, quickly diminishing to a broken bubble ring and a thin, partial cap.
    Lacing – None.
Aroma – 4 –Weak honey and some hops. No yeast, no malt. No ethanol (9.3 % ABV according to the label).
Flavor – 4 – Slightly sweet from the honey and a bit of tea flavor with a little hoppiness. Unfortunately no coconut flavor. No yeast, no malt flavor. No dimethylsulfide or diacetyl. Slight gastric burning.
Palate – 4 – Medium; slightly creamy; soft carbonation.
Final impression and summation: 4 Decent DIPA, although I would prefer a brighter shade of green. The honey balances the extra hops ameliorating the bitterness and the coconut, while contributing little if anything to the flavor, helps the honey smooth out the edges. The matcha, while it’s there, contributes little but the color. Overall, a bit of a novelty beer but one that’s enjoyable in itself.
    Rating 4 rDev +11.7%

Thanks Peter! I enjoyed this brew! Think I'll have another before Noir Alley begins!

Agreed. I had it years ago and liked it…I can’t/don’t want to drink it now. Still love SOS…two completely different beers, imo. Cheers!

I know I'd heard of Kiwi before, likely from my previous stays in CT, but I had no idea they were canning it now - much less at Two Roads! - until I saw it on my local shelves. No complaints - but my initial reaction (from the one can I saved for myself) is that I prefer Sip of Sunshine. :grinning:

Fuzzy Baby Ducks, OTOH, was a super hyped beer back in the day. The fact I can now buy it by the six pack is insane. It's held up with the increased production, IMO. I never felt it was truck-chasing-worthy when I was fortunate enough to first try it, but I did think it was really darn good - and I still feel that way today.

Drinking a new to me beer on a Sunday…sound familiar @ChicagoJ ?…Bottle Logic Brewing, Anaheim, CA’s “Electric Eden” a BBA “Imperial Autumn Stout” (whoops, I jumped the gun) “with apple pie, caramel and hazel nuts”. Sounds interesting, let’s go:

Bottled 2021. Poured at 57°. Black with thin ruby edges; partial tan rocky cap with no retention; no ring nor lace; thin legs at best. Apple nose immediately; the aroma is baked apple pie with just a hit of bourbon. Sweet caramel candy, caramelized brown sugar; spiced apples with cinnamon; bourbon an afterthought; no hazelnuts. Smooth viscous feel; medium body; surprisingly low mouth warmth from 14.7% abv. Overall, good but kind of gimmicky; yes, it tastes like a sugary apple pie, the but caramel sweetness dominates the whole; very little barrel notes. One and done.

    3.75 | 4.25 | 4.0 | 4.0 | 4.0
    Score: 4.05 rDev - 5.8%

Nothing bad here…I should have waited ‘till Thanksgiving; a beer perhaps better suited to the winter holidays. Cheers y’all!

I've 9 beers that need reviews. Would like to do 3 today. All with the exception of the Weissbier are strong. The 2 DBocks I've enjoyed for many years and have only rated them. The other 7 are all new. I would like you folks to help me decide which brews to have today for NBW! Which ones today?? Cheers!

Personally, I’d hit the lighter beer first and save the “big” beers for another day as they will sit more gracefully.
But that’s just me. Drink what appeals!

My instinct is to not do the Dubbel and Quad back to back. I already had the Wit that also was in the 4pk. That could've been a nice transition brew...I do have a bottle of Hoegaarden...hmmm. The plot thickens :beers:

I'd probably start with the Apis, then the Paulaner, and finish with the ABT 12 or the Waldos. go lighter to stronger.

Now to my next beer and it is also a lighter beer. I had thought I had it already. I did bring a can on my fishing trip and my friends had it, but I didn't. I had assumed I had one once I got home, but looking in my fridge there were still 3 cans of it. Well, now there's 2.

Road Crew - Goat Ridge Brewing - New London, MN - European Pale Lager - 4.6% ABV

The beer is aptly named. I had to deal with a TON of road crews and road work to get there, and buy this. I took so many detours, I was almost turned around. I did finally get there, had a beer and lunch, and went home with a 4 pack of this beer.

I am very impressed with the flavor. The nose suggested there would be very little. There was a lot and quite powerful, in a good way. Delicious, and I'd gladly buy more of this beer, at least when the road work on MN 23 is done.

From a can purchased at the brewery.

Clear light golden pouring beer. There's a bit of carbonation bubbles rising in the glass. The head that forms is 2 finger and white. The head isn't the longest lasting, and there's no lacing on the glass.
The aroma is very light indeed. I only get the faintest hint of grain on the aroma.
Taste - The flavor is way more than the nose let on. Malty, for sure. Tons of bread/biscuit flavor in this beer. Slight buttery finish that just tastes good. Slight grassy flavor also makes a quick appearance.
Very smooth feeling, and not watery in the least. Somewhat thick feeling, and way thicker than a lot of beers of this style.
Very refreshing, tasty, and easy drinking. Pleasure to try.

Be back later for another round at the virtual bar.

Welcome one and all to New Beer Sunday #959. Pulled out the second of two planned collaboration beers, this one between one of my favorite breweries and favorite beer stores/bars.

Beachwood Brewing & The Beer Temple Collaboration Outnumbered by Animals

    Can Notes:
$17.63 four pack after tax purchased at The Beer Temple refrigerated on 5/9, refrigerated thereafter until opening this morning. 16 oz canned 4/27/23, 7.1% ABV, 60% IBUs. Canadian Pilsner malt, Nelson Sauvin, HBC-586 Hops. Brewed and canned by Beachwood Brewing, Huntington Beach, California.

This hugely aromatic IPA showcases one of our favorite hops from New Zealand, Nelson Sauvin. Sprinklings of experimental HBC-586 from Yakima, Washington add further tropical accents.

    Appearance:
Primary 3/4 pour to start into a nucleated Beachwood tulip pint glass. Clear golden base, light steady carbonation, bright white head lingers shortly before receding to a thin cover over the base. 4.25

    Aroma:
Tropical fruit, tangerine, orange, pineapple. Lighter in strength than expected based on can notes, though pleasant. 3.75

    Taste:
Taste much stronger, consistent with the aroma with a strong pineapple, mango, citrus flavor, white wine backing. Flavors blend well, light offset by a a bitter dry offset, but definitely a sweet experience. 4.0

    Mouthfeel:
Consistent prodding prickly carbonation. Drinks at or a bit stronger than the 7.1% ABV. Sweet but not cloying, tropical fruits the star of the show linger in the finish. 4.25

    Overall:
This is a solid offering, hop profile consistent with flavors. Overall a solid beer, glad I have three more. Thank you Beachwood and The Beer Temple for your great beers over the years! 4.0

Amanti - Whole Hog Brewing - Stevens Point, WI - German Pilsner - 5.6% ABV

You're probably thinking Pilsner = boring, and not complex. Well, this beer is extremely complex and no way in hell boring. There's so much going on here, and I know I butchered my review. I just couldn't put my finger on all that's going on here, but I can say that I really liked this beer a lot, and I just hope my review does some justice to it.

    From a bottle:

Slight bit of smoke upon opening the bottle. Somewhat murky golden color pour. As I hold it up to the light, I just see a very tiny amount of carbonation rising in the glass. No tornado here. With an aggressive pour, all I was able to get was a 1 finger white head. The retention is not the best, with no lacing on the glass.
Aroma is quite interesting, and I'm having a tough time putting my finger on it. It does seem very earthy, and grassy. I think I'm getting lemon?!? Not sure. Interesting to say the least.
Taste - Very grassy flavor in this beer. I think I am getting lemon in it, like a lemongrass flavor. Yeah, lemon and some orange going on here. Notes of grain come in on the back. Very earthy on the back also. Slight bitterness also hits on the back.
The earthy flavors coat my throat, and the feeling lingers in my palate. In a way this beer is light, but it sure as heck doesn't feel light at all.
This beer is a complex beer that will mess with your mind. You see Pilsner, and expect one thing that would seem boring. Well, this beer is anything but boring. So much going on here will hopefully expand your beer mind. Solid.

I will return in a bit for another. Cheers all!

6.5% AIPA by Tröegs Brewing Company

Pound from a twelve ounce can, the body is a lightly cloudy yellow. Good initial head that quickly receded. Decent lacing during the tasting.

The nose is a delightful tropical aroma: Pineapple, peach, melon, and bubble gum.

The taste follows nose albeit in diminished notes. Too one note (sweet) to be an IPA that I'd buy again. No bitterness seems odd to me given it’s not juicy like a New England. If they were shooting for beer candy, then it’s on point.

Carbonation is medium and mouthfeel heavy and creamy thanks to the grain bill and oats. Slightly syrupy.

Overall a beer that would be improved for my tastes with an addition of bitterness. Their Lollipop has a bit more going on including a light bitterness, despite its similar sweetness, and would be a better choice if I wanted this type of IPA (sweet and smooth).

I'd go with the Paulaner Salvator - one of my favorites in the US. I vaguely remember drinking multiple liters at a Starkbierfest celebration last spring in Munich and falling down stairs on my way back to the hotel - good times!

I would drink the Apis crowler first or soon. it is the most fragile of the bunch being pulled out of a tap. The whole hog bottle is 9 or 10 months old and already well past it's peak freshness but still might be ok.

My new beer for today is Mango Rays from Southern Tier.
Clear gold color, small white head, some lace..
    Aroma of mango and grain.
    Taste of mango and wheat.
    Neutral mouthfeel.
