I took a look at this thread https://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/cellar-worthy-stouts.18642/ and found many great beers to put in my cellar, but almost all of them are American. Obviously this means that the best stouts are made in America! Anyhow I'd still like to put a few stouts from elsewhere in my cellar.

So in the spirit of the original thread, please post a few that you have found to age particularly well.

I haven't aged them because they're a rare treat here, but I suspect that the barrel aged stuff from Pohjala would age well. They're in Estonia, so should be accessible to you.

There are also some excellent RIS from England. Courage is a famous example, there was one I used to be able to get from a local store called Bridgewater or something (I just looked and I guess I never reviewed it, but I know I posted it at least once in one of the cellar review threads. Probably 2020 or 2021 if you're motivated) it had a white label with blue lettering and aged excellently. The other one that I've enjoyed from Belgium is Black Albert.

+1 on the Courage RIS. I had a 1993 vintage earlier this year

I second Pohjala. I found a bunch on clearance that were sitting on the shelves for a long time and they were still great. I'd imagine they would be much better in a proper cellar.

I have more experience with Lambics, but the one foreign BA stout that quickly came to mind was De Molen, with their Old Rasputin, i.e. Cease and Desist, my favorite to date. They also held up really well, several years cellared. Haven't seen them around here the past few years.

I forgot...De Struise makes good stouts too.

+1 for Black Albert. It might actually be my all-time favorite to age, as far as stouts go.

    Sam Smith's Organic Chocolate Stout.
Not sure how 'cellar-worthy' it would be for extended cellaring because it's only 5% ABV and it might not do well over time. But hey, that's why we do this, right.....for science?

Great! Already looks like a very promising list. My local monopoly store have a wide selection that is renewed every couple of weeks so sooner or later I will find something from one one of the breweries.

    Põhjala Brewery [Estonia] 2
Eagle Brewery - Courage RIS [England] 2
De Struise - Black Albert [Belgium] 2
De Molen - Rasputin (Cease & Desist) [Netherlands]
Samuel Smith - Organic Chocolate Stout [England]

Makes me want to go on a field study trip across Europe right away :grinning:

And apart from Black Albert, the following Belgian stouts should be mentioned:
    1) De Dolle Extra Export Stout (De Dolle Brouwers)
    2) Pannepot (De Struise Brouwers)
    3) Kameradski (Brouwerij 't Verzet)
    4) Sans Pardon (De Dochter van de Korenaar)
    5) Hercule Stout (Brasserie des Légendes)
