One of my favorite doppelbocks from Germany. This is a few years old - brought it back from a trip to Freiburg. Wodan from Ganter.

A pretty good Maibock from Paradox Brewing. I served it on the warmer side. The other can is in the fridge....

If you told me 20 years ago a larer could taste like this (fruity, mildly dark and malty) I would have scoffed. I love learning about beer.

Yes. It used the come in bottles, and it was a sometimes thing. Now it seems to be on the shelf every other week.:+1:I prefer the 500ml serving size. In other news the Eisbock may be coming back to Ontario soon.:clap::clap:

    Camba Bavaria, Mastrobator Doppelbock
Had a mug of this out of the tap at Essen Haus in Madison WI on 8/11/2023. Tasted fresh enough.
Smooth, ABV was well hidden. Semi sweet with a hint of bitterness on the finish.
Flavors are hint of grain, some caramel then spice. The spice is pumpernickel, cinnamon/raisin plus maybe a hint of black licorice/anise. The spice is assertive and dominates the flavor profile.
The body and mouth feel is on the thin side.
I like it, first time I ever had this one. I will give it 3.89+/5

On 8/12/2023 I stopped at Great Dane Fitchburg. I finally had there maibock for the first time.
The pint was good, but i did notice that when it was warmer it was not the freshest. But still very drinkable. I will give it 3.92/5 as it is. Smooth, slightly sweet, medium body/mouth feel.
Taste is a little caramel and plenty of flower/floral with a micro hint of honey.

I've never heard of an Oat Bock, but that's what this one is in name and style description. The beer is not listed on the brewery's website, and the can is not dated, so I don't know if it's a new or old beer. I rated it at 3.75, and here are my notes/review.

This beer's taste is similar to a muted maibock but without any of the good German malt flavor that I like. The mouthfeel is soft/creamy thanks to the oats. Not a bad beer, but not really to my liking.

    Easy drinker but too carbonated.

:joy: -- It's Weißbier, it's supposed to be lively -- and a big Schneider characteristic is bottle fermentation with a very thick head and lively carbonation.

And please don't tell me you drank from the bottle, that could be a mess. Besides, how can you enjoy the very rich aroma of Aventinus?

The big surprise is that you've never had it before -- it's the quintessential Weizenbock (ranked #1 of the style on BA -- https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/styles/92/), but to each their own.

Don't mistake me for a fuddy-duddy in this comment (it's OK and obligatory to give me that label everywhere else). I think you should do your thing (from the container, on the street, etc).... but don't blame the beer for it (yeah, I know you're not being 100% serious). That beer was designed for bottles, and to be poured... in a way that other beers aren't as picky or deliberate. That carbonation from second fermentation that @steveh mentioned would come out when it's poured. Not that this means that the beer will be one you'll enjoy though. I enjoy being a heathen, and I do my own thing with such beers too. The normal practice is to swirl the bottle when it's almost empty to get all that yeast from the bottle into your glass. Personally, I leave that stuff out of my glass without apology. :beers:
