Happy New Beer Sunday. It's beer, oatmeal and the Women's World Cup final for me this morning (entertaining first half for what it's worth)

This is Permanence, an imperial milk stout from Tree House. Can't remember when I bought this, but I believe it was either 2021 or 2022.

Appearance is an unremarkable dark brown with a little bit of tan head that quickly receded to a thin ring. While somewhat discrete, this beer smells really good up close. Chocolate, coffee and maple syrup all blend well together to create a rich aroma that really entices.

Coffee is the first thing I taste, and it continues to dominate mid palate, but then the maple sweetness kicks in on the finish with a little bit of bitter roast mixed in. I was worried about this being overly sweet, but it strikes a really nice balance. Fully bodied and slick.

    Overall, nice beer.

It is such a good beer, I like every aspect of it but its drinkability has to be the highlight for me; dangerous beer.

Sadly from their post I don’t think it will make it to NJ but I believe this one did, may grab if I see it: https://jacksabby.com/beers/munich-fest/

16oz undated can poured into a pretentious beer glass creates a thick white rocky head over a hazy pale orange liquid, reduces to a pencil think layer with spotty lacings, good retention

Aromas of peach and lemon peel, orange citrus

Taste is orange citrus-zest, soft peach notes, tropical fruits, bubble gum

The mouthfeel is juicy , Smooth, Medium sudsing, hop nibble on the finish,, zesty-citrus, easy-going IPA.

    Good beer

Let me be one to give her a warm welcome to our mid-Atlantic commonwealth. Which region of the state is she moving to, if I may ask?

Nice! I would be surprised to see that in the wild as well, and would do the same as you and probably grab some.

Aroma is vanilla bean, peach, mango, tangerine, and apricot. 4.5

Taste follows vanilla bean, peach, mango, tangerine, and apricot well balanced and really tasty. 4.5

Mouthfeel is big, soft almost creamy carbonation, not sticky or dry, and at 9.3% seriously way too easy going down. 5

Overall this is really impressive. The absolute best I have ever had in this style. 4.5

    Speedway Stout
    12% stout by Alesmith

Poured from a 16 ounce can, the body is very dark and opaque. Small initial head and light lacing.

Aroma is mix of malty char, dark chocolate and coffee. Delightful.

Taste follows nose with an increased flavor of the coffee. Add a nice boozy flavor, not too hot. I'd prefer a bit more char, but this beer is delicious.

At first, a lighter mouthfeel than expected/hoped for but still solid. Once warmed, the mouthfeel was nicely creamy. Carbonation light.

    Overall an excellent coffee stout.

Good morning BAs! This morning’s new beer is courtesy of @Danmullens1 and our meet up in Sheboygan this summer - Mikerphone’s “It’s So Heavy”, an Imperial Stout aged in Templeton Rye barrels, then Jack Daniels Single Barrel Select Whiskey barrels both of which were hand picked by collaborator Amon Beer & Wine…sounds like my kinda breakfast beer, so let’s go!

No bottled date (believed 2023). Poured at 56°. Quick thin dark tan head of mixed bubbles; no cap retention, ring nor lace; jet black body with a thin ruby ring and some clarity; thick legs on swirl. Strong sweet whiskey nose; boozy hot exhale. Sweet whiskey entry; charred oak; bitter sweet dark chocolate; some dark stone fruit in background; hot whiskey close. Boozy bite on tip of tongue; full face flushing and mouth heated warmth from 19.55% abv; silky smooth feel, not at all adjuncty; light carbonation; medium full body; dry barrel finish. Overall, quite impressive from mostly a barrel standpoint; a big boozy sipper for whiskey ba imperial stouts; no adjuncts, just dry rye and Jack sweetness; long hot charred oak and whiskey linger; to be fair, the barrel notes overwhelm the base notes, which for this high abv monster I kinda expected going in, and I’m enjoying sip by sip; way boozier than BCBS and nowhere near as balanced, but I like!

A Rare Beer Club selection of a Belgian Dark Strong Ale (Or a Belgian Strong Dark Ale, your choice).
Froggy’s Seventh Heaven – from Hoppin’ Frog. 16 oz can picked up at the brewery (Rare Beer Club from 2023). In reefer at store, acquired 02/08/23, $ 10.66 (Including tax), $ 0.66/fl oz. Reviewed 20/08/23 (Review 3148). Note that I use DD/MM/YY protocol.
Stamped on bottom of can “BEST BY MAY 23 2033” (I think – EXCEEDINGLY difficult to read). Stored at 34 degrees at home. Served at 53.7 degrees F in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter. The final temperature was 57.0 degrees F.
    Appearance – 4.
First pour – Amber Brown (SRM 18), clear.
Body – Ruby Brown (SRM 24), opaque. Under direct light, same. When rear lite, light penetration at the edges (red amber).
Head: Average (Maximum 1.5 cm, aggressive center pour), wheat, high density, quickly contracting to a 0.2 cm crown and a thin, partial cap.
    Lacing – None.
Aroma – 4 – The famous “dark fruit” of non-specificity. No yeast, no malt, no hops. No ethanol (16.4 % ABV according to the label).
Flavor – 4.25 – Begins slightly sweet with the “dark fruits, and the higher-than-expected ethanol content” typicality expected of the style, although there is a slightly bitter underlying note. No yeast, no hops. No dimethylsulfide or diacetyl. Initially, little gastric warming, very smooth. As the temperature increases, the gastric warming evolves to oral incendiaries – oddly, my hard palate burns while the heat in my stomach subsides.
Palate – 4 – Full; bordering on syrupy; soft carbonation.
Final impression and summation: 4.25 An OK example of the style for us non-connoisseurs. It has the expected “dark fruits” flavoring and the sweetness expected, the slightly sticky mouthfeel, and the gastric warming. Good but not exceptional.

Welcome one and all to New Beer Sunday #965! Back with a second West Virginia offering, also from David, from another new to me brewery.

Fife Street Brewing Charlie West Coast IPA

    Can Notes:
Provided courtesy of David @DoctorZombies of Beer Advocate on May 11, refrigerated there after until now. Can sleeve holder indicates a 5/1/23 canning date, 6.8% ABV, Citra, Centennial and Chinook hops. Brewed and canned by Fife Street Brewing, 180 Summers Street, Charleston, West Virginia. Walkway Brews

Tasting Notes: Upfront pine with a bitter punch, sweet orange, citrusy finish.

Appearance: Initial pour 3/4 can with follow-up pours into a nucleated glass. Clear tan bronze pour, medium carbonation, puffy egg white head lingers a couple minutes before leaving a creamy cover over the base. 4.0

    Aroma:
Nice pine citrus aroma, caramel malts back, pretty much a tie. Working well together, nice classic hop blend. 4.25

    Taste:
Consistent with aroma, though the caramel malt is the leader at this stage, sweet, sticky, caramel strong, backed primarily by pine with citrus peaking through like the sun on a mostly cloudy day. Would call this a Midwest coast IPA, though leaning toward WCIPA. 3.75

    Mouthfeel:
Sticky creamy medium body, carbonation consistent and persistent light fizzy addition to the depth without getting in the way. Drinks at perhaps slightly above the ABV now that I'm over 1/3 of the way in. Lightly dry and bitter, hops help reign in the sweetness but not the malt flavor. Enjoyable caramel pine finish. 4.25

    Overall:
This is a solid offering, would call it about 60%-66% on the Midwest side of the IPA ledger, but there is enough pine and old school hops to keep me interested and happy. Not sure if the length of time I finally got to this pour impacted the proceedings, would revisit this review if a fresher batch yields different results, but digging it as is and would go back for more. 3.75

Thanks again David, still have one more from you but will save it for cooler temps after I get through the plethora of drink fresh beers still on hand. Will enjoy following the thread the rest of the way, and have a Wax Wing theme planned for the last weekend in August.

    Cheers!

Good Sunday, folks. Enjoying a beer and a cigar on the deck. The beer is one I had earlier this week and through up a quick rating, but wanted to review a little more in depth today, after a brisk walk around our nearby lake.

Tucher’s Rotbier isn’t the prettiest thing to look at, with a muddied red ale look to it. Looking up the style characteristics in a few locations, one mentioned that if you liked Oktoberfest Märzens, you would probably enjoy the Rotbier style. I think I can see where they were coming from, although this particular beer has a bit more bitterness then I’m used to in a Märzen.

That said, it isn’t a bitter beer. The toasted malts drive the flavor, and an earthy bitterness keeps them from showcasing any sweetness. The nose is off a medium grain bread, which comes through in the taste. At times the flavor reminds me of a breakfast bread that someone left the sugar out of, or at least mis-measured it on the low side.

Other more minor notes include a little malt tang and some medium strength iced tea. In fact that tea sensation feds into a dark nutty bitterness, the one that continues to balance the malt sweetness, even as it strengthens a little bit as the beer warms. Speaking of, there’s a bit of a light molasses aroma and taste I start to notice when the beer isn’t fridge-cold, and I’m digging it.

All that and it actually is pairing quite well with my cigar, which I mostly neglected during this review (sure, it might affect my senses a bit, but I had only a few draws, many thing affect palates, my notes are in line with memory from earlier this week, and I’m not trying to be perfect ).

Good afternoon NBS/nbw and thanks @AzfromOz for the wonderful kick off this week.
Beatiful summer day here in the 413, after a week of rainy grey. this is a delight. Farm equipment is either harvesting or tilling in all around us, also many Uhaul's means students returning to the 5 college area. Our quiet days are dwindling here.

Poured from the 16 oz can, dated 2023/04/24 into the test glass.
A - Hazy lemon yellow sun color, steady white cap, with excellent lacingthrought the experience.
S - Dried pineapple, papaya, resinuous pine, orange reduction, and sweet malts.
T - Taste leans toward the resinous pine, and dried pinapple, a bit of sulphur, as well
M - Medium in body, has some edges that work well with the bitterness. There is in the middle a soft texture, that is ushered aside, ending with a nice citrusy snap.
O - A very good IPA from talented brewers. Billed as a "West Coast style hazy IPA" whatever that means. The bitterness is certainly leaning in the direction, however the soft texture steers away from that coast.
In any event a very easy to drink pleasure, and that is the most important part!

    Afternoon all! What's going on?!

Definitely enjoyable weekend! and I am parched!

Running out of new beers but nothing around I can't get my hands on. What's this for our hero today?

Poured from the can into a Spiegelau IPA glass.

Very pale amber, to dark lemon yellow color. Slightly opaque and hazed not turbid looking, with a big eggshell bright white forming head. Easily reaches three plus tall fingers, but has a real snappy sound, and shampoo like bubbled appearance. Sticks around surprisingly, but had big bubbles to pop leaving nearly no lacing, or much of a top to speak of.

Aroma is solid. A big gamey with dank notes of weed and tropical fruit. Hits more on the earth with lots of pungency on the nose and thick almost chalky like senses.

Palate is a little unexpected but not complaining. Bright and light is the first thing that comes to my mind. A light bodied almost session like mouthfeel but supportive enough to make some of the hops show more character. Bright sensing orange and tropical on first sip, with latter lighter dank notes following. Finishes with dry bitterness, and an almost flour like powder grain flavor.

Still, in the end a decent and passable enjoyable IPA comes forward.

I have not, but I have had their Helles fest which is in the same family. It was a very good beer. If you stick with what JA are best at, you at worst have a decent, very drinkable beer. When they stray from their own strengths the outcome gets less predictable.

A beautiful sunny Sunday, expecting another 100 degree day. I wanted something that would quench my thirst, and found this from Boxing Bear Brewing in Albuquerque.
This beer is a yellow color with a slight haze. Small white head with a bit of lace.
Not much aroma, some sweet malt.
    Taste of corn and cracker.
    Light-bodied.
    A good lawnmower/shower beer.
