What Beer Are You Drinking Now? #3958

Didn't get a chance to post these last night. Had a night out in downtown Houston. Went to see one of my favorite writers at an event, James McBride. I just finished his wonderful book The Heaven & Earth Grocery Store.

First stop, La Carafe. This place is always awesome. Oldest building and bar in town. I basically have to read by candle light ha, finishing up my new translation from Aharon Appelfeld. He was a Holocaust survivor, he actually escaped a camp as a kid. Eventually after the war migrated to Israel. He is/was one of the premiere writers of Jewish survival, he passed in 2018 though.

Anyway, some Yellow Rose in the glass.

 

Walked on down the block to a great Mexican seafood place.



For some fish, shrimp, and lobster tacos. Saint Arnold Art Car IPA in the glass.

 

Heat and humidity here until Friday, not sure if I'm headed out again until then. Not as bad as Houston @champ103 - nice pics and tales!

Then at the James McBride Inprint event. These are always great, this might have been my favorite one so far, and I have been going to these for about 10 years now.

 

Not bad, but, we got this at the end of July, and it was brewed in March.

This is a beautiful looking beer. The pour is a murky looking golden pour. When I hold it to the light there's a beautiful fountain of rising carbonation in the glass. The carbonation produces a 2 finger white head. The head is fluffy looking, and long lasting. Once it dissipates, there's just a bit of lacing on the glass.
I get a faint hint of cereal on the nose. Not too strong, don't know if it's because it's older?
Cereal is the main flavor here, since it's a malty beer. I also get faint notes of honey that pop into the beer. There's a pretty decent hop bitterness on the back.
Crisp, fairly clean, and light.
Easy drinking beer, it would have been nice to get it fresher locally to see if there's a difference.

Bottled 5/1/23. Poured at 52°. Coffee plenty strong.

Hot (mid 90s) and steamy forecast all week. I’ll likely stay indoors and probably drink beer and do little otherwise. Cheers and have a tempus fugit Tuesday y’all!

It's getting really hot and humid out there. Supposed to get around 100 today. I might take a walk to Back Shed later, but all depends on how fast it gets hot.

 

Hello folks! Last day here in lovely Bloomington, Il. Uber hot with heat indexes today 105°F and tmrw 109°F. F*ck. 6am is my go time to beat some of the heat in my un-air-conditioned truck. Wish i would've had that freon charged this past spring. Got the sweet parking spot right outside of my hotel room so i can leave the sunroof partially open. My giant cooler is in there. Shartloads of free hotel ice and the booty is as good as gold. Yuengling Trad Lager to start up. Cheers!!
