All right, time to continue the new beer weekend with this:
Luxy's Comet - Bad Habit Brewing - St. Joseph, MN - American IPA - 6.3% ABV

The single hop used in this beer - comet - makes for a delicious beer. They did a good job making this sticky feeling beer.

    Review:

    4.07/5 rDev 0%
    look: 4.25 | smell: 4 | taste: 4 | feel: 4.5 | overall: 4
From a 16oz can purchased at the brewery.

The beer is very murky looking and a pale golden color. I can see just a bit of light coming through the glass when I hold it to a light. The head that forms is 1 finger and white. It looks quite puffy, and frothy. The head retention is decent overall, and there's some beautiful lacing on the glass.
The single hop in this beer - comet - produces a very nice citrus aroma. It seems like grapefruit to my nose.
Taste - This beer is hoppy. I do get a lot of citrus flavor from it, and again, grapefruit is what I get from it. It has a decent bitterness.
This is one sticky beer. The hop bitterness lingers a very long time in my throat. Somewhat juicy feeling.
This is a good beer that showcases the comet hop very well. I am impressed.

I'll see if I have another in me later today. Cheers!

Brewers notes: (American IPA, 6.8% ABV, 16oz) Oaked Julius is a brew that evokes a profound sense of nostalgia while simultaneously representing a bold foray into a new brewing endeavor. It is an homage to nature's time-tested elements, crafted with our unwavering commitment to innovation and the pursuit of progress. Oaked Julius is crafted first with the base Julius recipe and then aged in oak barrels. Following its slumber in oak, it is dry-hopped a second time prior to final conditioning. The result is a transformative fusion of classic and contemporary, a beer that pours a hypnotic hazy orange hue beneath a cap of creamy foam. It greets your senses with a bouquet of citrus, subtle vanilla, and the unmistakable, mellow resonance of oak. The first sip reveals a symphony of flavor characterized by recognizable Julius flavors of bright mango and citrus rounded out by American oak.

Can dates 8.28.23, opened 9.4, poured into a teku glass, deep hazy orange capped by a yellowish off white creamy foam , settles to a solid layer with streaky lacings

Aroma is orange citrus, oak, whiff of mango

Taste is orange citrus , not as vibrant as Julius, muted by the oak ageing and flavoring, oak , hint of mango

Soft , smooth mouthfeel , creamy sudsing , semi dry finish

Good beer , interesting version of a classic. The classic still stands supreme

Back at it with another one of these Mortalis Hydra beers ... this one is just straight up berry jelly. Hydra - Blueberry + Raspberry + Lemonade

Pours a dark purple - cabernet color. THICC, completely opaque, with lots of debris in it. Not much of a head to the beer, but it does show life. Aroma is straight berry jelly - tons of raspberry and blueberry with underlying notes of lemon and citrus. Its fruity, smells great if you love fruit smoothies, but isn't really much else beyond that.

Taste follows the nose - tons of tart berry, tastes very fresh, and then the lemonade comes through just accentuating the tart fruitiness of the beer. Lots of fruit, very refreshing, and quenching. Feel is thick, filling, and heavy. Moderately carbonated.

Overall its a lovely fruited smoothie sour - another quality offering from Mortalis.

Great to see NBW getting an extra day. Always nice reading what everyone is enjoying (or not).

I've been saving this one for a hot day, and here we are after a mild August. I seriously don't understand how it has such positive ratings and reviews. Maybe compared to a NEIPA it has subtle fruit flavor, but next to what I've been drinking recently it is like running into the clothesline.

Gennesee Ruby Red Kolsch, 4.5% kolsch (fruited)

Pours straw yellow with a rapidly dissipating head.

Aromas of grapefruit and more grapefruit. Seriously, it smells like fruit juice--no hint of malt or hops even as it warms.

Tastes of grapefruit. Start of the sip is grapefruit, then some malt character tries to squeeze in but gets shouldered to the side and pushed down to the pavement by grapefruit. Seeing this, the hops retreat before even making an appearance. Finishes with notes of grapefruit.

Even saving this for a hot and humid day, it still seems like they ruined a perfectly good kolsch with all that grapefruit.

Time to choke this down and then clear the palate with a Czech pils. Enjoy the rest of the holiday NBWers!

Have a good laborday. Me and Julia stayed up after a late bar night. Watching South park Season 12 and the Robin Williams documentary was amazing. Ate free breakfast at 6am. We failed at finding parking at Wrightsville Beach so we came back inland to panacea brewing because the food menu and wide kombucha selection sounds like a great new vibe.

I think best Western does have the best hot breakfast for the price. There was a pancake making robot :yum: gassy :scream:

Starting off with the panacea cream ale. This was awesome. Aromas and flavors of cracker, biscuit, wheat, toast, wood, mint, peppercorn, pine, banana, pear, apple, clove, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast earthiness. Medium pine, herbal, woody, spicy bitterness on the finish. Medium-high carbonation and light-med body. Crisp clean refreshing finish. Balanced creamy grainy malt and sticky hop mouthfeel. Light resins and lingering drying. No hop astringency. Feels almost like an a wheat beer on yeasty notes, but for a cream ale very flavorful and balanced flavors all around. 4.1

Hoping for a third and final Top 10 2023 New To Me Beer to close out the holiday weekend. Pulling out the second of two Tree House offerings from Vann @Ocalafox .

    Tree House Super Treat

    Can Notes:
Obtained May 31, 2023 via parcel from Vann @Ocalafox on BA, refrigerated thereafter. 16 oz can dated May 17, 2023, can stamp "We Are All Closet Swifties". American Double IPA, 8.3% ABV

We are excited that you are holding a delicious imperial IPA from Tree House Brewing Company: Super Treat!

Super Treat is brewed with our house yeast and ridiculous doses of citrus-forward American hops. It is purposely brewed to have a candy-like backbone to layer the intense hop flavors on your palate. We taste and smell orange starburst, sweet tangerine, lychee, and unfiltered fresh squeezed orange juice. Super Treat is densely flavored but softly carbonated, lending to a beer that is packed with flavor but easy to enjoy again and again. She's a Super Treat Super Treat. She's Super Treaty Yum!

    Appearance:
First half of the can poured into a standard shaker pint, half the glass filled with glorious creamy slightly off-white bubbly head, covering pure turbid orange juice base. 4.25

    Aroma:
Sweet citrus and tangerine, sweet with nothing to contain it like 5 year olds walking up to a box of cereal and syrup. It's sweet, but smells delicious. 4.5

    Taste:
Citrus tangerine and pine is what's going on here, all blend well. Reminds me of eating the SweeTarts as a kid, so enjoying than memory. Not over the top sweet, solid, enjoyable, but not an everyday pour for me. 4.0

    Mouthfeel:
Medium to full creamy body, carbonation negligible at best, sweet definitely wins out, though there is some level of bitterness, though thinking the better of trying to contain the bountiful flavors. Drinks light and easy, deceptive for DIPA. Sweet and wet, sweetness lingers on the finish. 4.5

    Overall:
This is definitely as advertised. Strong sweet candy like backbone, stronger than my personal preference but still enjoyable as there is at least an attempt to contain. Tree House really delivers strong enjoyable flavors and I'm very appreciative of having the chance to enjoy these offerings. Thank you Vann, I owe you big time, and look forward to perhaps one day enjoying these beers at the source. A solid beer. 4.25

Great New Beer Weekend for me. Have enjoyed the posts I've read so far and looking forward to reading the rest and enjoying the rest of the Sunday music posts.

Last one before heading out and last Mortalis beer - Hydra - strawberry + pineapple + coconut.

This is easily the ugliest of the Mortalis hydra beers - lots of coconut chunks in a sickly drab yellow color. The head on this beer looks like the froth of a science experiment gone bad. And, the fruit material separates in this extremely quickly - unusually quickly for the Hydra beers. All that together makes this the least attractive beer I have had from them. Aroma is par for the course with these beers - tons of fresh fruit. The coconut is there, but pretty mild.

Taste is strawberry and pineapple - lots of pineapple - with subtle notes of coconut. Its ... fruity? With the fruit listed on the can clearly discernible in the taste? I don't know what to write ... I'm running out of things to say about these beers. Thick, smoothie like consistency with some carbonation.

This was easily my least favorite of the lineup - based mostly off the appearance. I need a lager.

This may be my only beer today, but if so, I'll be ending the weekend on a high. This is Consonance & Dissonance, from Fox Farm and it's exceptional.

Here's the description from the brewer. Consonance & Dissonance: Aromella is the first entry in an ongoing exploration of the distinct harmony between wine grapes and spontaneous beer. Prepared from a blend of mature beer aged in a variety of oak formats, all made with locally grown pilsner malt, unmalted wheat and whole leaf aged hops, C&D is composed with an eye towards featuring a particular grape variety. A stunner of a grape, Aromella grabbed our attention when tasting varieties grown by Blue Heron Vineyard at Foster Farm in South Windsor, CT. Reminiscent of Muscat or Gewürztraminer, Aromella is a little-known white grape that throws intense and unmistakable notes of peach, citrus and honeysuckle with the slightest undercurrent of allspice. The final blend for this beer was transferred onto the must (skins and juice) and allowed a complete re-fermentation on the fruit before being transferred back to oak for a three-month rest prior to packaging and bottle conditionsing early this year.

Attractive beer....bright orange / yellow with persistent carbonation and a fizzy white head. Aroma is a wonderful blend of peach, oak, grapes and miscellaneous fruit. Very, very good smelling beer.

Taste is similar to the nose. Grapes, oak, honey, citrus and a well balanced acidity. Complex, nuanced and delicious. Light bodied and well carbonated. Overall, excellent beer.

@Roguer @beergoot and @FBarber looks like you all really enjoyed this one too when you had it last year. Frank, I think the acidity might be slightly more restrained with another year in the bottle, although I also have a pretty high tolerance for tartness.

Happy Labor Day all youse people. Hopefully you have a great a day as my morning was. Spent a few hours with friends on the Flat River, kayaking between two covered bridges. Then we had a beer.
This is the one I grabbed from their beer fridge, I was curious how it stacked up with Founder’s (spoiler alert, it didn’t stand a chance) This opened up like one of those blueberry syrups that you used to find in some restaurants. Sweet and artificial. It did manage to mellow out as it warmed to allow the stout to come out and play.
OA, this is a fine lower ABV pastry stout if you’re looking for one. If not, you might want to pick up something else.
    Cheers!

Panacea brewing dry Irish stout. Great one. Aromas and flavors of big dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, roasted nuts, toast, black bread/crust, wood, tobacco, peppercorn, pine; light molasses, smoke, charcoal, herbal, floral, grass, dark fruit, and yeast earthiness. Medium pine charred bitter finish. Light yeast tang/tartness. Medium plus carb and light med body. Balanced creamy bready malts, sticky hops, chalky roast mouthfeel. Lingering resin dryness and minimal char astringency. Very flavorful and balanced hop/English yeast earthiness. Spot on style. A bit crisp and refreshing on body. 4/5

Pours a pale lemon-yellow color with a bit of yeast sediment haze; dense carbonation; thick head, white and sudsy, very long lasting; sticky patches of foam stick to the glass. A mesmerizing smell concoction of lemon with a streak of brett funk; easy going earthy spiciness traces. The taste seems a bit flat compared to the aroma; brett phenol bitterness with a mere hint of citrus; citrus pith; sage and thyme. Medium-heavy mouthfeel; rather coarse on the palate; dry feeling throughout.

The suggestion the aroma hinted at didn't make it into the taste. The flavors seemed a flat and almost watery and came across more with the rougher side of brett yeasts dominating things. Now if the alluring combination of brett funk and lemon-like smells translated into a like taste, this would have been a magical beer.

Panacea hazy ipa. Overall great. Tastes like a lot of mosaic and vic secret or some aussie hop. Aromas and flavors of grapefruit, lemon, peach, passion fruit, pear, apple, mango, melon, guava, berries, cedar, mint, peppercorn, pine, citrus rind, herbal, floral, grass, yeast earth. Medium high pine rind woody bitter finish. Balanced bready grainy malt and sticky resinous hop mouthfeel. Long resinous drying finish with mild astringency. Mild warmth and hop burn at 6.5%. Very vibrant and dank hops character with a prominent earthy hop note I've seen in a lot of aussie hops with balanced fruity tropical notes. 4/5

Brewers notes: Curiosity Thirty Five was brewed with a hop blend heavily favoring two American classics - Columbus & Simcoe! The result is a wonderfully punchy yet juicy new age Double IPA enveloped in familiar Tree House Character. We experience heavily citric flavors and aromas, most notably ruby red grapefruit, in a concise and distinctive presentation. A tight yet soft effervescence dissolves on the palate giving life to a proper and refreshing bitterness. It's a beer that - for us- hopes to evoke contemplative thoughts on life and serve as a reminder that joyful every day moments should never be taken for granted.

Re -released after 6 years , ranked 17 on BA for imperial iPas

Canned 8.31.23,opened 9.4.23, “live for the moment”

Deep orange hazy liquid crowned by a creamy off white foam , settles to a solid layer , spotty lacings

Aroma is grapefruit citrus, orange citrus

Taste is grapefruit citrus , hint of melon

Smooth , gentle Hop kiss on the finish

    Good beer

Pours a hazed gold with 2 fingers of eggshell colored head. Sheets of lacing & good head retention

S: Tropical & Citrus fruits, a little cattyness once warmed up

T: Guava, green melon, a little peach & dryness up front, a kiss of lime & grasyness. Lime, green melon, guava & oranges as this beer warms up. Finishes pretty dry with green melon, limes & oranges

Poured from a twrleve ounce can, the beer is a hazy orange-brown color with creamy bubbly white head. Light lacing.

Nose is floral hops and a wee pine aroma.

Taste follows nose and adds a balance between hop bitterness and malty backbone.

    Well carbonated and smooth finish.

A good bitter IPA that doesn't invent new flavors but offers a bitter beer. A solid fridge beer.

This has been a very saison heavy weekend, which means it's been a great beer weekend!

B11 (2020). Appearance is a bright translucent yellow with plenty of persistent white head. Aroma, while somewhat muted, is really nice up close. Blind, I might actually think this was a hefeweizen given the clove like esters I'm getting.

Taste is more in line with what I was expecting, with lemon & hay and some mixed fruit. Very light and tasty and extraordinarily easy drinking. Absolutely perfect way to end a beautiful long weekend.
