The Veil Brewing Dirt Dirt Nap Nap. Hazy DDH DIPA. Brewed with Nelson, Galaxy, Citra, and Mosaic hops. The look is murky, dense, carrot juice. It has a thick off-white foamy top. The smell is white grape, green apple, mango, papaya, honeydew, banana, and carrot juice. I am not sure if I perceived that because of the color. The taste is grapefruit, lemon, white grape, kiwi, and starfruit. The mouthfeel is thick. Nearly milkshake-like. Smooth. Full. It has light-medium carbonation. Overall, this is a nice hazy IIPA, but it does not really stand out amongst similar beers.

Thank you @Roy_Hobbs for kicking off the weekend! My theme for this weekend is kickass IPAs, with the plan to start with my last new to me beer on hand from Vann @Ocalafox today, and crack open the first of a dozen beers provided by Adam @Qu3st tomorrow, both long time wants.

Vann graciously shared a can of this selection with the group in Wisconsin back in May. I really enjoyed it, but this is my first chance to sit down with a full pour, reflect and rate.

Parish Brewing Ghost in the Machine

Can Notes: Received this beer as part of a gift from Vann @Ocalafox on Beer Advocate on 7/8, refrigerated until opening today. 16 oz Ale canned 6/5/23 "Manifested". Brewed and canned by Parish Brewing Company, Broussard, Louisiana. 8% ABV.

Welcome to the future. Our collective human consciousness, or Ghost in the Machine, has gained a tolerance for hops beyond what mankind has ever known before. This double India Pale Ale is the necessary outcome.

Appearance: About half a can into a shaker pint glass. Hazy thick orange tan base, creamy white head lingers for a few minutes before leaving clumpy lacing and a creamy cover over the glass. 4.25

Aroma: Strong pleasant citrus aroma bursts from the can upon opening, getting pineapple and lemon lurking beneath the lead star. Smells like a sweet treat. 4.5

    Taste:
Citrus is the lead here as well, though balanced out by a bitter hop presence. Getting pineapple as well, consistent with the aroma. Solid. 4.25

Mouthfeel: Creamy, silky smooth. Drinks far easier than the ABV about 1/3 in, starting to feel the impact half way in. Deceptively easy, with a light very negligible gentle carbonation saying this is beer, not fruit juice. Medium to full body, sweet overall but nice pleasant to me bitterness to keep the proceedings under control. Nice pineapple citrus lingering on the finish, a nice reminder of what has transpired. 4.75

Overall: This is an excellent beer. It has held up well over 3 plus months, not sure if the added time changed much, but really digging the beer as is. For fans of the style, or folks like me which only appreciate a nicely balanced NEIPA, this is a beer I highly recommend and will seek out again if I have the good fortune to find down the road. Thank you so much Vann for yet another great offering! You are the best!!!!! 4.5

Southern Tier Brewing Caramel Pumpking. Imperial pumpkin ale. I like pumkin beers. This sounds delicious. The look is somewhat clear orange/red. There is almost no foam. It looks great in this glass. The smell is caramel pumkin pie and butterscotch candy. It is absolutely wonderful. The taste is butterscotch heaven. Caramel blends perfectly with pumkin pie. It is delicious. Brown sugar, cinnamon, molasses, and cookie dough round it out. The mouthfeel is spicy, clean, sparkly, and soft. It is quite pleasant. Overall, this is the best fall beer I can think of. It is warm today. I need a lot of this beer for October.

Up next is another beer from @jerryfreak. This one is the generically titled "Sour ale with Mixed Berries" from Zebulon Artisan Ales in Weaverville, NC.
Coral color with a good amount of fizzy white head that disappeared quickly. Plenty of visible carbonation. Bright and good looking beer. Aroma is a muddled mix of berries with an earthy funk that for some reason doesn't work for me. Taste is a blend of the blueberries, blackberries and raspberries that went into the beer, but I'm unable to notice them individually. They become a general "mixed berries". Moderate acidity. Very tasty, light and very easy to drink. Definitely enjoying this.

I’m getting into the Oktoberfest beers that were part of a great assortment of beer brought up to me from the US by one of my favourite BAs. This is Hamburg Oktoberfest Märzen Lager.

Pours a bright deep orange gold with ample head that sticks around for a good while eventually settling in as a light film on the top of the beer. Moderate lacing.

Malty notes hit the nose first. Toasted grain with cereal sweetness up front. Some grassy notes trail in behind.

Taste follows closely. Lightly sweet malted grain on the tongue. Bitter middle with an hint of grassy hops, and a crisp sharp finish.

This is full bodied and very enjoyable.

Hoping to get a few more in this weekend. Cheers!

Golden, sharp moving carbonation, dainty head but it’s hanging around.

Nose is clean and robust. Some estery character. I get grape must, malt, rye, spice, tanninc character.

Taste covers the spectrum. Beautiful vinous hop character stop a clean and nuanced hop bill. Very old world.

Great stuff as always from a very underrated brewery.

Left Hand - Dry Irish Stout

    Best by 11.01.23

Poured into a stout glass at > fridge temp and < room temp

Pours deep pitch black with a tall sandy colored nitro head. 4

Deep and roasty malts, some dark coffee and touch of semi sweet chocolate. 4

Roasty and lightly bitter malts, semi sweet chips, and unsweetened coffee, accompanied by light woodiness. 3.75

Water like softness and body, which was surprising, and only thickened up when I sipped in some of the head. 3

Overall a nice and easy drinking and enjoyable Irish Dry, but I think a rare, but possible instance of where nitro just didn't help. 3.5

    Cheers!

Loved that beer, but also, I'm a sucker for most nitro stouts...it seems by most BAers opinions I am in the minority on this one.

That's just it, I normally love em, and regularly get the one from my local brewery (it's nitro) but this one just didn't feel rich/body enough. I have another one I'll try again before I solidify that opinion  everything else about it was good enough for me though, look, aroma, taste, etc

Their milk stout is excellent though.

Picked this up at a local bottle shop the other day. Farmhouse by Ale Apothecary, a wild ale from down in Oregon. Preliminary review below. Cheers!

500mL bottle (no date that I could find) into a tulip. Pours a golden amber color with minimal head, just a ring of foam around the edge of my glass.

Aroma is tart and funky, despite its name this is more wild ale than saison. Apple cider vinegar, wild funk, pale malt.

Taste is likewise super tart and crisp, not unlike biting into a Granny Smith apple.

Mouthfeel is light to medium—so dry and crisp it seems to evaporate off the palate.

Overall a really tasty wild/sour ale. Super drinkable and refreshing.

Joy and Ranger and I are at the lake for the weekend. We made a trip to town which of course necessitated a trip to the (quite excellent) beer store.

I will admit that I squealed when I saw this on the shelves. Let’s GOOOOOOO!!!

This beer pours a brilliantly clear amber color with ruby hues as you hold it up to light and sports a sudsy sudsy tan head that doesn’t provide much lacing but does provide a nice ring atop the body as you enjoy the beer. Beautiful amber lager.

The nose features bourbon and oak notes up front, with a nice caramel aroma, some toffee, and a bit of wheat bread for good measure. I’m not aware of experiencing a BA imperial amber lager before, but I like where this is headed.

The taste is led by the caramel and toffee notes, and they are delicious, especially when they’re joined by a nice vanilla flavor, which I believe is the residue of the barrel and oak notes on the nose. There’s a nice wheat bread flavor as well and a warming bourbon flavor at the back of the palate. Wow.

The mouthfeel is full and crisp, fitting the lager profile and gravity of the barrel. This is a shining example of Great Lakes’ prowess as a brewery the last 35 years. Happy Birthday to a GREAT American brewery.

Trying a hometown Hop River Brewing Angel's Paw, which is either a "light Belgian Strong Ale" (by website) or a "Belgian Golden Strong Ale" ( the label). My review: "Not a lot of aroma... nice golden color, more bright than deep. Good carbonation but no head. Just a bit of spice to the taste. Tastes like a nice session beer, but at 7.5 it will probably fool you. Decent, enjoyable, but nothing that stands out." I gave it pretty much 3.75s across the board.

Tired hands modern gulpie light lager
    ...cloudy light gold appearance
...medium carbonation with around a medium body.
...aroma is a yeasty crusty malty bread in the lead.some biscuit and a bit of earthy floral honey.
...taste is almost dry despite it also being malty. Cereal, grain, and earthy floral hops.
Grain and cereal always leaves a sour dry taste in my mouth, in a pleasant way and this lager does the same.
...for a light lager,4% abv its very nice. Great beer to start the evening, hope everyone's weekend is going well[IMG]

Happy weekend one and all; it’s been ap pleasure to read the posts thus far. Today has been a long one but I caved and poured a beer, yay me. This one comes from one of our favorites, @snaotheus who is overseas, so maybe you’ll see this post tomorrow AM.

@NorsemanOne changed my mind on my beer, joining with an Irish dry stout, non nitro.

    E9 - SnakeHips (Irish Dry Stout 4.2%)

Pours really dark brown, lightly barely penetrates, the head is light brown and bubbly, not much retention and no lacing.

The nose is lightly ashy, some roast is present, light dark fruit, mild sweetness.

The taste has a little more roast to it, very light almost watery chocolate, slight burntness to it, lightly and appropriately sweet; has a nice roast driven aftertaste.

Mouthfeel is light, slightly watery, smooth low carbonation, dry on the tongue, really light bitterness.

Overall a pretty tasty beer for the night, thanks for sharing Ryan. Hope you’re enjoying the land of beer, or whatever country you’re in now.

@Roy_Hobbs hope you enjoy your trip coming up and share your beers with us.

@augustgarage i hope we see that pine top beer in here by end of weekend.

@ovaltine loved reading your look description on that GL beer, let Ranger take the wheel and you and the Mrs can just hang out and enjoy the ride, and some beer…

Beautiful medium-light copper pour, looks like dark honey in the glass; excellent, slow-rising carbonation; dense, lasting head, off-white and semi-creamy texture; thick, stick rings of foam cascade down the glass. Very faint scent; barely noticeable light caramel. Decent rich sweetness and caramel flavors; low-key hop bitterness. Medium-light mouthfeel; smooth and slight velvety touch; mainly sweet feel with a slight dry edge at the finish.

A decent märzen, nicely balanced but not delivering much in the aroma department.

In Little Rock, which means I have to stop at Lost 40 Brewing.

First up is NATIV IPA, 6.3% ABV

Pours a clear golden/yellow color. A dense white head rises to over two fingers. Good retention and plenty of lace left behind.
Aroma is a mix of citrus orange, light tropical fruits, melons, and some pine resin. A bit of some new and old school IPA, which I enjoy.
Taste wise, like the nose, plenty of citrus, orange, tropical and melon fruity flavors. A bit pine resin like, with some sweetness. That leads to a nice lingering bitterness that dries everything out. Very enjoyable.
A medium body, and maybe just a bit lighter than the ABV would suggest. Though crisp, clean and finishes dry. An easy to drink IPA, I can come back to this with ease.

A well done simple example of the style, that mixes some new world fruity hops with old school pine resin and bitterness. I'm all for that, well done, and I got a six pack to go.

    Overall score is 3.98, B+
