Help Posting Pics from my PC

There are two types of pics that you can post on BA - pics into your posts in the various forums, and the small pics that are on the Beer pages and the Place pages.

Pics that you insert in the forums must be sent to a third party hosting site like Imgur.com but the small pics for the Beer and Place pages can be directly uploaded from your phone or computer as long as you've modified the pics to the requirements for dimension and byte size. The link that @Beersnake1 posted above is the best source to learn the requirements and tips to get it done.

The procedures for both types of pics are a bit convoluted to get them to where you want them, but you'll get the hang of it after a few times.

 

When I first posted on here I went all-in on a free hosting site. Unfortunately there is no free lunch, so you eventually see limitations put on image size, retention time, number of images, etc and they may add advertising, for you, not image viewers. Also service uptime is an issue. Fed up, I tried another free hosting site, and same thing.

I ended up on a paid image service and get unlimited image size, 2TB capacity, near 100% uptime, and no advertising. I've never seen it be down. I do pay over $120/yr, but I use it for family pictures, videos, really any file. I could do backups of my phone or laptop there, but don't. If you go with a 'free' service, you get what you pay for.

 

I hope I don't jinx myself here, but your two free hosting sites that you used must not have been Imgur. I've been using that free site for probably 15 years and I've never seen an ad, never been restricted to the number of pics, etc. But it sounds like you're a heavy user of posting pics, and that may be the difference in our experiences.

 

After the second free one, I knew about imgur, but was burned out from the first two so went paid.

 

Have used Imgur also 10 -12 years have never seen an ad ,never had a problem.

 

How do they cover costs if it's free and no ads?

 

Not sure, nor do i care ..there are some ads that show when you are on hosting page , they never hinder nor are barely noticed when photo editing.

 

lets hope that they don't make it easy to post, I have thousands of beer pics!

 

I think there are some ads on the login page but I'm busy logging in and I don't really notice them. I don't edit photos there, I just move a photo there, grab the Direct Link, and sign out. It's simply a hosting site and that's all for me.

 

Exactly what i said above ^^^^. You will see some ads @PapaGoose03 on the login page ,they dont hinder or interfere with posting pictures or editing.

How'd you get the Mongo pic into post #4? Do it the same way again.

 

I use Postimage to host picture and then copy the URL for posting here.

Post setup an account in postimage. Upload a picture then, click right click on picture to bring up menue, select "copy image address." Then in post you want to post picture into select "image" from the top to the right of the emoji button and paste the image address you copied. Once posted tada it is there.
