    What a great beer name…

Yup, considering the circumstances of our trip, everything just felt right including our view during time together.

Thank you @ChicagoJ it was nice to write about it. A few more to come…and on the fried pickle front, get on that

[IMG] Poured into a 16 oz Snulip glass canned on 5/10/24. Pours a very attractive rhubarb pink with a finger pinkish head that settles instantly, leaving no lace. 4

Aroma is maple, blueberry, raspberry, and vanilla. 4.25

Taste follows maple, blueberry, raspberry, and vanilla. 4.25

Mouthfeel is about average, very soft carbonation, maybe a tad dry, and at 8% massive flavor, but easy enough going down. 4

Overall this is good, but honestly I wanted more. The look and mouthfeel is my biggest issue. It is good, but if they can fix a few things, it could be great. 4.25

    Smell: Prominent fruit smells.

Taste: An initial sour burst of fruit. A fruity, dry finish.

    Mouthfeel: Moderate body and carbonation.

Overall a smooth and well balanced Fruited Kettle Sour.

    Surly Mosh Pit Juicy IPA
    [IMG]
    Appearance: Clear gold, ok head.

    Smell: Sweet fruit cup.

Taste: Mildly sweet to start, gives a mix of fruit cocktail, mild citrus, and light melon flavors. Medium-light body. Finishes with mild citrus bitterness.

Overall: This new one from Surly was in a mixed pack with Furious, Axe Man, and the Mosh Pit hazy. This is probably 3rd place of those four, beats out the mosh pit hazy. Better flavor and mouthfeel than the hazy, but way below the other two Surly classics.

This collaboration from two very good NH breweries Kettlehead Brewing and Branch and Blade Brewing. A combo of two of each best beers.

Poured into 13 oz Snulip glassed canned on 5/13/24. Poured a very attractive yellow orange with a 2 finger sticky white head, that leaves plenty of thin streaks, with excellent retention. 4.25

Aroma is guava, cantaloupe, passionfruit, tangerine, mango, and apricot. 4.5

Taste follows guava, cantaloupe, passionfruit, mango, tangerine, and apricot. 4.5

Mouthfeel is pretty big, soft gentle carbonation, not sticky or dry, and at 9.2% it has big flavor, but very approachable. 4.5

Overall I would highly recommend this one. 4.5

Interrupting midday NBW with another beer from Charleston. This was the second beer I had special for a few reasons, my uncle’s favorite style and named after a spot where we used to family vacation with my aunt, uncle and cousins; down the road from his house: Folly Beach.

I haven’t been in 15 years but it used to remind me of what Hawaii must be like. Beach shacks all around, palmetto trees, golf carts and lots of surfers.

Holy City Brewing - Washout Wheat (Hefeweizen 5.5%)

Darker for a hefe; but nice cloudiness, head was lacking a bit, very quick to settle and dissapear.

Nose was typical; nice banana and clove heavy, not much to report, a to the point to style hefe nose

Taste was nice rich on the clove lighter on the banana, but it does stick around and linger, with some very light malt presence.

Light body, soft, very refreshing and drinkable, a very good attribute of this beer, it has a very light, but higher than normal bitterness on the finish which I actually find quite nice, I could drink this beer all day if needed.

When I return to Charleston I will have more of this and would love to try more from this brewery.

Regular NBW post coming tonight, cheers all.

    Hey what's going on?!?!

When is this rain gonna end?! Till then there's always beer!

What's new for our hero today.

Poured from the can into a Spiegelau IPA glass. Canned April 5th 2024.

Pale lemon to light brass yellow body color. A mix of transparency and opaque quality, not quite NEIPA turbid or even solid appearances, but almost a chill haze like look. Fluffy top white head, not too bright with some retention.

Juicy sensing nose. Real gumdrop candy like aroma, bursting with citrus oils, sweet tangerine and some exotic tropical fruit. Full rich and lush sensing, seems really big and powerful.

Palate is a bit more grounded. Still maintaining juicy character with good orange, grapefruit pith with bitterness flavors. Light touching bitterness almost herbal, with a session IPA like quality which is a bit disappointing, but also makes for easier drinking. Some exotic mango does truly seem to make its presence.

Was expecting this to be a bit more full in body and flavor profile, but it's a very solid tasting IPA overall.

    look: 4 | smell: 4.5 | taste: 4 | feel: 4 | overall: 4 | Final Score: 4.12/5

I'm so happy that Sump, and many other bigs, are now available in smaller formats. In the past, it was always large bottles. I like this trend in distribution.

Good Afternoon (Evening to our European Brothers and Sisters) NBW.
Just tried this Altbier at a local and added it to the DB.
    Schnukiputzi from Broken Timbers
On tap at the tasting room in Placentia, CA.
Dark brown in color, only a slight head with little retention.
Nose begins with a smooth, mellow sweetness that paves the way for a gentle herbal spice from the hops.
Flavor follows the nose but also brings a slight fruity note akin to apple peel.
Mouthfeel is on the lighter side for style, but just barely. Low carbonation. Finishes with a most subtle reminder of the hop spice.

Crystal clear, pale yellow body; dense, lively, small-bubble carbonation; thick, frothy white head leaving some sticky strings of foam inside the glass. Outstanding aroma; delicate light malt scent infused with a heavy does of floral and soft tropical fruit notes; pear and lightly sweet apple. Very clean taste; very light malt backbone with a delicate herbal presence; easy fruity esters add depth to the overall flavor picture; very mild hop bitterness. Light body; crisp; semi-sweet mouthfeel.

This beautiful beer is a sheer delight to drink. Harmony of flavors and aroma are quite apparent. Subtlety of the sense create a sublime wow factor for this beer.

New Beer from a current Dallas beer brewer I've been drinking, the lately discovered Half-Life and Double Half-Life. Manhattan Project Brewing. The West Coast Style Hoppenheimer Imperial gets a 9.2% ABV. Kinda kicks ass for an IPA because it's heavy in all departments of Malt, Hops and the bitterness. If it wasn't for the orange you'd get the boiled pine cones and needles bitter beerface. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Quite happy to get this brew. I always try to remember to look for it during this time, and often I can never find it. Finally got this one "ticked" off you could say

Poured from the bottle into a Libbey style pilsner glass.

Light brass color with even touches of caramel brown, and a real nice shine nearly mirror like finish. Plentiful amounts of rising carbonation riding to a soapy white head, quite tall with light retention and some lacing.

Great aroma. Clean sensing, almost exceptionally dry nearly like champagne, matching touch of light caramel and expressive but not aggressive herbal hop like notes on the nose. Almost gets to nougat like candy as well. Real nice.

Palate was not what I was expecting. A real nice mouthfeel from first impression, honey like with a good thick malt sensation. Clean finishing, but palate runs a little hot. Fusel hinting but not entirely, but also very hop forward surprisingly with a contrast of light caramel touching toffee sweetness, and hot hop herbs. Playful with a touch of bounce on the tongue and some fizz.

There's a lot going on here, almost too much causing a slight loss of balance, but it's a great pushing lager with much fun going on.

On tap @ Clementines in South Haven, 16oz snifter. Looks like 20w50 that has 15000 on it. No head, no lacing. Snot machine gets some heavy roast, some vanilla and a bit of cocoa and a some booze. Flavor matches the aroma, the booze was hardly noticeable. Thick, you could almost cut this with a knife. Just awesome.
I'm thinking that this is the best BA Stout I've ever had period! The empty contained Buckley Reserve #2, the added junk version that wasn't terribly sweet. As a side note, the Walleye, curly, rings and bread were also spot on. And yes, I was able to walk back to the hotel.

    Sea Maiden.
I love Grey Sail's Captain's Daughter, so trying this "light"offering from them was an easy purchase decision. This is a 3.9% ABV ale.

Poured from a 12oz can to a nonic at fridge temp. The can is stamped 4/19/24.
3.5 Gold body with a slight haze. A half-inch white head fades to a single layer of tiny bubbles which lace like a blanket before gravity makes them only spider-like.
3.5 The smell is hoppy and slightly dank.
3.75 The taste is reminiscent of Captain’s Daughter, but watered down. Still good as in a fishing or lawn mower beer.
3.75 Mouthfeel is light as you would imagine. Label blurb actually says “She is low in calories making every moment guilt free.”
3.75 As already mentioned, a good beer when you have work to do. It has a place and its better than most no-alcohol beers I have tried.

Front label wording seems a little stilted to me. "Enchantingly LIght Ale" sounds like its not an enchanting ale, however the fact that it is light is enchanting. They should have used the verb "enchanting" and not the adverb. Done bitchn' and what's wierd is I usually get annoyed at grammer-police people.[IMG]

It’s a long weekend for us up here as we get ready to celebrate the life and loves of Queen Victoria on Monday. We had a productive morning here helping my twins with their final exam preparations. They were given a 50 page study package a couple weeks ago. We are about a fifth of the way through. They are in grade 2. I don’t remember grade having any tests in grade 2, let alone finals!

After lunch, we went to see their art show at a local gallery. Every year, their school partners with a local gallery to show student work for a few weeks as a proper, formal art exhibition. Both kids had three pieces in the exhibition, and as you’d imagine, were quite proud to see their work up on the gallery walls (as was I of course!). The gallery director took the time to talk with both, asking them about their pieces and their techniques. It was great!

As fortune would have it, the gallery was right around the corner from my favourite brewery. So, now home, here we go with beer number 1 for the weekend:

    Godspeed Kira Kira Zoigl-inspired lager.

Pours a deep murky copper with a moderate creamy head that sticks around for a while.

Malty, bready aromas dominate with some bright herbal and floral notes peaking through here and there. There is a hint of toffee in there too.

Taste follows the nose closely. Bready malt on the tongue with some floral notes and a light caramel finish. There is a crisp quality to this beer that is quite nice.

The body is medium and the beer is highly drinkable.

This is great. It’s a collaboration between Godspeed and Toronto’s other top-tier lagerhaus, True History. Recommended.

Awesome dimple-mug courtesy of the generous @jonphisher .

    Cheers!
