    Good afternoon NBW
I bought a single of this not knowing it was a porter.
    Surly Nitro Coffee Ale
16oz canned 01/26/24 poured into a nonic pint glass at fridge temp 5.5 % ABV. The beer pours dense black with meager tan colored head. The head starts and finishes as an 1/8" even layer. The aroma is moderate in strength featuring dark roast, unsweetened cold brew coffee. The taste is more of the same rich coffee flavors sans sweetness and with minimal hop bitterness. Mouthfeel is thin bodied with nearly still, non widget, nitro. Overall, a tasty porter if you love black coffee, which I do.

I've got a few more new beers around. Hopefully, I can get another in today. Cheers all!

That would be a tie for my wife's favorite domestic Hefe. Discovered on a vacation to Myrtle Beach and sought out any time we venture into SC. Fat Heads Goggle Fogger would be the other, if you ever run across it.

That’s anwsome, I enjoyed it a lot, had I checked a bag I would’ve bought home their porter but that’s for next trip there. And their ipa, classic hops, called overly friendly ipa.

Good Sunday afternoon, New Beer Savorers and commentators. Time flies. Brix City Brewing's 2024 Silk City release is already a month ago. Time to pop another 2024 variant - Mint Chocolate Chip. On release day this variant was very popular on draught in the tap room but I prefer to let a Stout warm a bit before imbibing so I stuck with other styles. Like the other adjunct variants, the mint in this Stout is handled really well. It's certainly evident but subtle and doesn't distract from the base BA Stout.

Poured at 61° The color is a very dark walnut - nearly black - and the dark mocha head fizzled away almost immediately. Its nose is primarily dark chocolate and bourbon with modest notes of mint candy, along with tobacco smoke and char. The proffered mint is more apparent in the taste - especially as I swish it around in my mouth. The chocolate is strong and rich and even after a month in the bottle the barrel influence is strong. It's fairly hot for the ABV. It finishes with a good, roasty bitterness. As with the other 2024 variants, the adjuncts are handled well - the mint is present but not front and center. The mouth feel is similar to the other variants. It's not quite a viscous as in past years and it drinks big for the 10.% ABV.

I typically buy a bottle of each variant but prefer the O.G., which I drink throughout the year. I will say that after Kane's annual A Night to End All Dawns release, Silk City is probably the best annual barrel-aged Stout release in New Jersey. I'm NOT saying there aren't better BA Stouts brewed in the state (for example, the Twin Elephant + Troon BA Stout I reviewed last week was superb!) but for a regular annual release, Silk City is worth seeking out. Have a great week, everyone! Cheers, NBW!

I had to run through the international grocery in Bloomington,IN on my way through yesterday. Guaranteed to have 10-15 international beers I'll never see 1.5 hours south.

500mL can stamped 55K 4 poured into a mug at fridge temp 6% ABV per label. The beer pours bright light gold in color with nearly white head. The head recedes to a thin ring and single layer of bubbles. The aroma is mild and fairly neutral with only a hint of malt. The taste is semisweet pale malt with underlying sweetness and grassy & floral hop flavor. Moderate bitterness. The mouthfeel is thin to medium bodied with average carbonation and a mostly dry finish. Maybe a hint of diacetyl. Overall, good pale lager.

Brewer's Reserve French Toast Stout - Central Waters Brewing - Amherst, WI - American Imperial Stout - 11.7%

We got this in stock on Thursday, and I shared a 4 pack with @Alefficted . I was worried it would be a sweet mess based on the name. Thankfully it isn't. It does have sweetness, but it is cut by the cinnamon in it. The only downside is I really don't get much barrel in it at all. Tasty, and interesting.

From a 12oz bottle. No date on the bottle. Served at room temp.

There's a bit of a hiss and a good deal of smoke upon opening the bottle. This beer pours pitch black. The head is a 1 finger tan color. Frothy looking with smaller bubbles. The retention is pretty good, and there's some lacing on the glass.
Nose has a good hit of maple. I also get notes of vanilla and cinnamon. Not really getting any barrel notes in the aroma.
Taste - The beer is a good mix of vanilla and maple up front. The cinnamon hits more toward the back and cuts the sweetness of this beer a bit. I do get a very faint hint of the bourbon barrel used to age it, but it's so faint.
This beer is quite thick feeling, Full, and smooth. I am really getting no burn here.
I was worried that this might be a sweet mess, but it isn't. It is a nice thick and tasty beer. The only strike is there's so little barrel in this beer.

I may be done for the weekend. If so see you all down the road.

Brewers notes: The Emerald Necklace series tells a foundational piece of the Trillium Brewing story. If you’ve visited our home of Boston, you’ve likely encountered and enjoyed a section of the Emerald Necklace. Beginning downtown at the Boston Common and Public Garden, extending out to Back Bay, and all the way to Dorchester, this 1,100 acre, seven-mile-long public park system is a cherished green oasis in the heart of the city. Years ago, JC cultivated a plot in the Fenway Victory Gardens, where he grew edible and decorative plants, trees, and even some hop bines!

The second beer in the series takes us to The Riverway, a 34-acre park that serves as a border between Boston and neighboring Brookline. Dual-hopped with two favorites from the Pacific Northwest, Citra and Mosaic each display their distinct tropical traits. We taste orange sherbet, meyer lemon, and juicy peach. A gentle sweetness that never nears cloying is embraced by a refined bitterness rounding out each sip.

Chilled pint can…Canned 4.16, opened 5.19 poured into a pretentious beer glass

Hazy deep orange liquid crowned by a two finger off white foam , good retention , streaky lacings

Aroma is bright citrus , orange with a hint of lemon

Taste is orange citrus, lemon, hint of peach

    Smooth mouthfeel, juicy, bright

    Good beer

    Forgotten Boardwalk Lime Lager

Poured from a pint can, the body is a light and clear yellow. Good initial fluffy, whitehead and very light lacing throughout the tasting.

Aroma and taste both feature a mix of light lime citrus and sweet grain. Both flavors are light and complement each other. Finish is lime though not too much. A deft touch keeps the malt flavor present. Balanced. The beer is an easy drinker.

Mouthfeel is light and carbonation good.

A simple beer that did the trick on a warm Sunday after weeding some beds. Kudos to the brewery for the Springsteen reference for the beer name.

A beautiful Sunday here in South Jersey, a lot accomplished today and good family busy time.

Today’s beer comes courtesy of a swap with @cjgiant. Was pumped that this one was part of the swap. Let’s do this…

    Port City - Helles (5.2%)

Pours golden with light chill haze; nice dense sticky perfectly white head, above average in retention, really sticks around leaving a nice cap for a while.

Nose is lightly sweet pale malt; white bread that has seen a few seconds of toaster time, a very light floral note.

Great taste to this beer, all about the pale malt, ever so slightly sweet and bread like, white bread crust, lightly hopped finish; little grassy.

Light body, incredibly drinkable, drinkable to the point of being refreshing; it drinks as clean as water, light bitterness.

This is a really really good helles lager; pale malt is star of the show, just the perfect amount of sweetness and perfect amount of hops on the finish. This is one of those beers that is gone before you know it, I would happily drink this again and again.

A final Charleston recap beer to close out Sunday night later…see you again soon.

After a wonderful, but LOOOOONG day at Three Floyds and Dark Lord Day yesterday with a best buddy going back 56 years as neighbors growing up in South Bend (first pic), I need to recalibrate with a “normal” beer.

    This qualifies.

Pours a dark cola brown and settles almost black in the glass with lots of brown hues on the edges and a creamy tan head that grips the glass. Beautiful black IPA.

The nose is focused primarily on the roasty malt aromas, and there’s a bit of chocolate, and just a smidge of resiny pine.

The hops are significantly more prominent on the taste, with a nice combination of resiny pine and citrus complemented by the roasty malt and that nice bit of chocolate. Delicious stuff, IMHO.

The mouthfeel is a little softer than I’d like for the style, but this is a REALLY nice take on a black IPA, one I’d gladly revisit.

    Canned on:
    05/07/24.

Moderate to vigorous pour yields a nearly two inch white head over a hazy straw colored body with lacing.

Nose of citrus, malt, and slight hops.

    Taste has a hop/malt balance that really makes this a very refreshing standout;
and with the lemon zest, this will be a summer crusher.

Very nice and full mouthfeel with perfect carbonation for the style.

Overall, do not overlook this gem of a blonde ale!!

    Cheers!!!

I've only had Dark Lord once, and it was sent to me as a blind beer in a BIF. I was suspicious about what it was when I was drinking it. Was happy with it, but would have rather shared it with friends instead of drinking it by myself to figure it out.
