Wow the viscosity on this is abundant. Yes, she is sweet but there is an immediate warming as well. There's a slight nuttiness but there is something I'm trying to nail down, I am really leaning toward a gentle-handed barrel aging in the vein of apple brandy? Maybe.
But as it warms, there's a toasty note that is hard to nail down, it adds a depth to the sweetness that "definitely" (should I be so bold?) is revealing some whiskey barrel. I'm now getting some bright Bourbon sweetness in the overall rounding out of this elegant lady. Again, I come back to the thick, decadent drink that is like old school burlesque. She languishes
I passed on that one, but after reading this...I'm in.

The Spice Must Flow from Bottle Logic. A strong ale brewed with pumpkin and spices. Aged in bourbon barrels. Finished with coffee beans. Comes in at 13% ABV

Poured at fridge temp. Pours a dark brown with minimal head. The nose is really nice. Pumpkin, spice, cinnamon, vanilla, clove, and a hint of caramel. Not a hint of coffee on the nose.

The taste is actually fantastic. I was skeptical, but it tastes great. Clove oil, pepper, pumpkin, toffee, malts, bread, maple, vanilla, milk, and bread. The bourbon is there, but it's not dominant.

The mouthfeel is medium bodied. The aftertaste is a mix of sweet toffee and pumpkin.

    E9 - Rhubarb Wild Ale

500ml corked/caged bottle (though the cork was pushed in so far that the cap was just jostling about). Bought it at the brewery about a week ago. Batch #4.

Pours a hazy yellow-amber with a smallish head. Smell is tart, not knowing Rhubarb was on the label I'm not sure I would have named it, but having it on the label makes it a pretty unavoidable conclusion.

Taste is not as tart as the aroma suggests, though it is quite tart. I get more farmhouse grain and funk notes than I would have expected from the nose. But, again, knowing it's there, the rhubarb is recognizable.

Mouthfeel is medium-bodied, very effervescent, prickly and light. Overall, very nice.

Holy Scheisse... So my Mystery Beer is Double BA Grazing On The Ordinary. A double barrel aged imperial stout with coconut and hazelnut.
So truth be told, I caught a hint of nuttiness, so I kinda nailed the hazelnut (only kinda). But the coconut, now that I know it, I find it. But I was not quite there. As for my guess at apple brandy barrel as an initial stab at nailing down the barrels...well, I finally made the whiskey/bourbon barrel stab in the right direction. So I am not far off.

But beyond all of that...what a lush Impy Stout. This chewy temptress is complex and elegant. What a fun ride!

The funny thing is I just noticed, earlier this week, that my review was now listed under the Consortia...I guess @Todd and the mods moved reviews and ratings over at some point.

Cross posted on the RIS thread.
For a beer that was canned almost 4 months ago, it has impressive carbonation- the brown head stood tall and proud and the lacing was in sheets.
The taste is nuttier than I expected, the chicory affects the flavor more than expected. It (chicory) is sometimes used as a coffee substitute so I wasn’t expecting to taste it as much as I did. The base stout showed through, but just barely.
The feel is similar to the OG, no complaints there.
OA, of course I am happy to have been able to try this but really wish I could find more of the OG here in town.
    Cheers!

    Transient - Buckley (2023)

500ml bottle served in a tulip. 2023 vintage. @ovaltine sent it to me in NBS BIF #18.

Pours black, despite an extremely vigorous pour, no head...at least for a minute or so. Eventually something emerges. Nothing big, but dark and dense. That settles into a sustained thin ring. Smell is SWEET. Sweetened coffee, maple syrup, marshmallow, a little roast and booze in the background. Oh, and chocolate.

Taste is chocolate milkshake with an espresso shot. There's some vanilla in there, and the "shake" comment encompasses the cream I taste. Not particularly complex, but rich and very tasty.

Mouthfeel is a little thinner than I would have expected. Not thin, but not a big and chewy as I would think. Overall, it's quite good.

This one is courtesy of @FBarber via the NBS BIF 18, Whiskey Hill Brewing Co. Split Bourbon Barrel Aged Stout with Thai Banana, Toasted Coconut & Vanilla Beans, 14% ABV; 4,03 overall

Pours an effervescent cola/mahogany with a pinky of mocha colored head. Some floaties. A bit of head retention & lacing, plenty viscous

S: Bourbon, coconut, hints of banana, loads of booze once warm

T: Follows the nose, some barrel coming through right off the bat, vanilla is very present. Bourbon, rich chocolate and bananas as this beer warms up. Finishes with boozy dark chocolate, toasted coconut & some vanilla & banana

MF: Chewy as hell, near zero carbonation, warming

Great flavor, a little bit more carbonation would've really helped this

[IMG] Poured into a Snulip glass not sure when it was canned but 3 weeks at most. Pours a very attractive hazy yellow with a finger sticky white head that leaves thin lines of lace with nice retention. 4.5

Aroma is tangerine, passionfruit, honeydew, papaya, and apricot. 4.5

Taste follows tangerine, passionfruit, honeydew, papaya, and apricot very balanced and tasty. 4.5

Mouthfeel is above average, not sticky or dry, soft gentle carbonation, and at 7.8% it drinks bigger in on body and flavor, but still very approachable. 4.5

Overall this is a very impressive and worth while collaboration to check out. A very good NEDIPA. 4.5 Cheers and enjoy your Sunday.

Appearance: Clear pale yellow, good head.

    Smell: Hay, grassy.

Taste: Mild bread, then grassy, with more bread on the finish. Light and crisp.

Overall: Very nice easy drinking beer. Nice grassy hop flavor without going too far. A tasty treat that's a step up from your everyday lagers.

    Good morning NBW

Beach Liquors atoned for the crime of selling me 20 year old beer yesterday with this one that never hits shelves in Kentuckiana.
    Barrel Aged OR XXVI

12oz recent bottling poured in a straight sided glass at just above fridge temp 11.8% ABV. The beer pours pitch black with medium brown colored head. The head recedes to a thin ring and single layer of bubbles. The aroma is moderate in strength featuring bourbon, charred oak, fudge and coffee. The taste is bittersweet roasted malt with charred notes up front and bourbon & dark chocolate on the back end. Strongly (and deliciously) bitter. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with average carbonation and a mostly dry finish. The abv is present in the experience, but not distractingly so. Overall, excellent. Not a surprise from North Coast.

    Cheers all!

    Jai Alai Double IPA
19.2oz canned 3/22/24 poured into a straight sided glass at fridge temp 10% ABV. The beer pours bright amber with khaki colored head. The head recedes to an uneven ring with lots of lacing. The aroma is moderate in strength featuring sweet citrus and milder pine. The taste is semisweet caramel malt with more citrus and pine. Big bitterness, but it hardly offsets the sweetness. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with average carbonation and a semi dry finish. Overall, ok, but you may not want 19.2 ounces...

Welcome one and all to New Beer Sunday #1005. I haven't had too many beers from this brewery, but the ones I do recall I have enjoyed. With this being a Rye beer, this was a no brainer purchase.

Full review linked above. I really like rye beers, with Ryeway to Heaven being one of my favorites. I didn't expect necessarily this level, but this is mainly bourbon and malt, with not much rye notes. It tastes pretty muddled. I expected more from Great Lakes and while this beer may work for some, with more rye flavor and complexity I would have gotten into this.

OK, two heavy hitters today, but a local regular strength beer planned for tomorrow.

    Aecht Schlenkerla — Weichsel

This was another curiosity purchase. Considering the high price, I only got one bottle.

Poured ruby red, with the stable slowly disappearing head,

The smell is of light smoke and fruit bread.

The taste is a smoked sweet soft drink, with a lasting bitter aftertaste.

The mouthfeel is of sweet tea rather than a beer.

Overall the bitterness overpowers any other taste including smoke which is surprising considering that it is a light beer. Easily my least favorite Schlenkerla. When available, I'd opt for Eiche or Urbock instead.

Got the dogs walked before it got really hot, did a few chores, and getting ready to watch Rangers/Panthers. I'm drinking Trifaldi, an oatmeal stout from OEC. This is the fifth beer I've had from this brewery, and have been impressed with all of them. This one is no exception.
Dark brown, nearly black, color. Big tan head that receded quickly.
Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate, and oatmeal.
Oatmeal taste, chocolate, and toast in the taste. The oatmeal is the star.
Very smooth, a pleasure to drink.

Goose Island Beer Kaleidoscope Cuvee 2024. A barrel-aged ale. It is a blend of stouts and barleywine aged in bourbon, rum, port wine, and maple barrels. Courtesy of @Danmullens1. The look is pitch black. Pure darkness. There is no foam. Only a few bubbles at the outer edge of time and space. The smell is incredible. Maple, fudge, caramel, fig, wood, spice, and molasses create a wonderful bouquet. The taste is unique. A wave of flavors penetrant your whole being. Caramel, fudge, graham cracker, marshmallow, fig, coffee, and nougat flavors blend seamlessly. It is a real treat. The mouthfeel is viscous, thick, silky, smooth, and full, with low-medium carbonation. Overall, this beer would be one of the best Bourbon County selections if it was released under that banner. This is an excellent barrel-aged ale.

Hey, thought of you when I saw Sly Fox is back in NYC. I requested the store down the street order Pikeland Pils and it has been my fridge beer ever since. I also came across the new lager variety pack but the store marked it way up so I passed unfortunately. Should hopefully all be newer stock should you come across.
