Well this bad girl pours like oil! And as you can see, she's a dark beauty, obsidian comes to mind. Initial impression is an Imperial stout.
Nose gives hints of a smokiness that is down right deep and complex. Not particularly roasty but smokey. As I move beyond the initial smoke, I pick up a profound wet oatmeal note that slowly rises in sweetness. Almost like a soaked buckwheat pancake meets bread pudding. Eventually some caramel notes chime in, as well as a hint of pemmican. I know that sounds strange, but pemmican with a very light nod towards umami.
Wow the viscosity on this is abundant. Yes, she is sweet but there is an immediate warming as well. There's a slight nuttiness but there is something I'm trying to nail down, I am really leaning toward a gentle-handed barrel aging in the vein of apple brandy? Maybe.
But as it warms, there's a toasty note that is hard to identify, it adds a depth to the sweetness that "definitely" (should I be so bold?) is revealing some whiskey barrel. I'm now getting some bright Bourbon sweetness in the overall rounding out of this elegant lady. Again, I come back to the thick, decadent drink that is like old school burlesque. She languidly reveals herself. Captivating.
