I really looked at that date and was trying to make it happen. Great guys, great location. I just can't this year. Alas, maybe next year, if y'all survive.

From somewhere in the wilderness of Los Angeles comes a Pilsner by All Season Brewing.

Nice aroma of alfalfa, straw, and a whiff of mustard greens. Pleasant cereal taste with a lovely kiss of hops. Flavors of malt, grapes, and a touch of mint. Hints of green apricot in the finish. Just slightly bitter in the aftertaste, and overall it's quite tasty. A better than average Lager, however you might categorize it.

    Lakeside lager Ithaca brewery
..very clear gold appearance with a thin but lasting head
..just below medium carbonation with a slightly thin body yet theres this oil citrus peel feel that coats the mouth.
...aroma is cracker, lime peel and fruit, and a raw grainy dough.
..taste is sour, tart, bitter citrus peel that produces an almost dry effect.some cracker ,grainy dough in the background and finish.
...overall its good but the level of tart bitter citrus doesn't make it feel like an easy to get down, post lawn mowing knock a few back type of beer[IMG]

...my second beer at the brewery's barrel house:

Burns Family Artisanal Ales -- Quadrant: 90°
    Madiera barrel-aged Belgian-style quadruple
    ABV: 10.5%
    Source: brewery

...until today, I've only had one beer from them: Bibben - a bourbon barrel aged barleywine...it was a guest tap at the Wynkoop Brewery in Denver last year...then, my favorite local beer emporium had it and three other big bad dark beers (but I didn't try the others)...

...anyway, got wind of their cellared bottles sales...dropped the coin and went up to their barrel house in an out of the way semi-industrial area of Denver...nice little place...what wowed me was the two beers I had while passing time for my orders to be filled...their N.P. German pilsner was phenomenal, and the Quadrant: 90° barrel aged barleywine was a killer, too. The fact that they made a stunning pilsner gives me high hopes for the other beers I've acquired with the idea they're not just high ABV, barrel-aged dark beer masters...

...they don't ship, though, and distribution I'm sure is limited, but I'll be reviewing more of their beers in short order...one I will do either tonight or tomorrow is a helles / rauchbier / doppelbock blend experimental beer...

    Jackie os champion ground
...solid motor oil black appearance with the thinnest tan head
..light carbonation with a thick, creamy, oily body.
...aroma is a deep rich mix of bourbon, boozy, dark fruit,malt/molasses/brown sugar. The coffee is subdued and in the background with some dark chocolate.
....taste is rich, decadent and boozy as the alchohol isn't well hidden but its totally enjoyable, not burning.
The coffee shows up but its the sticky sweet bourbon that dominates.
..overall its excellent and is a testament to the amazing box of beer @Blogjackets put together, many thanks[IMG]

S: Light breadyness, perfumy hops, not a lot of nose

T: Dryness, grassyness, a touch of grapefruit & bready sweetness up front. Grassyness, dryness & a little bit of lemon as this beer warms up. Finishes grassy & dry, with a slight sweetness, a little bit of bitter citrus

MF: Medium body, fairly form carbonation, good balance

Solid Pils, fairly easy to drink, nose was meh

    Waxed and capped 500ml bottle

    Ranked #12 on BA

Brewers notes: Tree of Possibility is a pure barrel-aged barleywine primarily showcasing several standout barrels that have been aged for over two years while also weaving in a small portion of barleywine aged for 12 months from select bourbon barrels. The beer, the wood, and time itself have given us a wonderfully complex and full-bodied beer overflowing with character. We taste and smell rich caramel, maple brown sugar, and warming yet restrained barrel heat, with underlying notes of exotic fruit leather, smoky tobacco, and dark chocolate. Life, much like the intricate blend of flavors in this barleywine, is a dance of evolving elements, constantly unfolding. Every season brings its symphony, and each moment holds the potential

Chilled bottle poured into a snifter, thick maple syrupy like liquid produces a pencil thin tan lid over a dark brown liquid

Aroma is dark fruits, figs, raisins,

Taste is caramel, brown sugar, figs, raisins , molasses

Thick, chewy mouthfeel , sweet ., mouth coating, limited sudsing , luxurious

    Good beer

You are a member of a very posh and exclusive country club. After a round of golf and a fine dinner of beef Wellington , you don your smoking jacket and slippers . Assume a seat in a leather chair near the fireplace next to your contemporaries Rothschild, Vanderbilt and Frothingslosh. Light up a fine Cuban cigar and Jeeves, the experienced and wizened butler , regretfully informs you that they Tawny Port AND Madeira have run dry ( dockworkers strike in Oporto, you’ll buy the docks on Monday and goods will be flowing soon). Instead, he offers you a glass of Tree House Tree of Possibility. Your first sip is delicious, you shake his hand and slip him $100. Your feet rest on the ottoman and you ponder selling 100,000 shares of Nvidia you bought 3 years ago, reducing your holdings by 1%….

    From a 16oz can dated 06/12/24

This beer is typical looking for the style. It is very hazy and murky looking and a juicy looking pour. The head is a very fluffy looking white color, and 2 fingers. Great head retention and some good lacing on the glass.
The aroma is hoppy. I get pineapple on it, with dank notes to it.
Taste - The flavor is more mellow than expected, yet a good hit. I get pineapple, but I also get a good mango hit that didn't show up in the nose. I do get that hint of dank to start off the beer. I also get an earthiness in the flavor.
Soft bodied and very juicy feeling. Full bodied and there's no burn here.
Tasty treat, and a pleasure to try.

I might have one more tonight.

From a 16oz can. I think they tried to date it, but it got squished beyond recognition.

This is a very juicy looking golden pour. Hazy and murky looking with a 2 finger white head. The retention is good with some lacing on the glass.
The aroma is just off the charts strong. I get an amazing hit of pineapple here. The aroma also has a good melon (cantaloupe) hit with grassy undertones.
Flavor is full of the hops, as I expected. There's a great hit of melon up front. The melon goes more toward pineapple on the back with this beer, but the melon seems to be the dominant flavor in the hit parade. There's earthy and grassy notes that pop in to say hi.
Very juicy and soft feeling. The feeling from the hops have a somewhat sticky feeling to them, and I just keep burping the hops back up.
Very impressed with this beer. Quite delicious and one hell of a treat to get to try.

Ho man, I almost forgot it was the weekend. It's been a while since I've checked in on this most excellent of corners of the internet. It's been... pretty crazy since last I was here. I think I was still living in NY the last time I joined the weekend crew, but since then we have moved back across the continent (driving across Canada this time... here's the playlist if anyone's really bored and wants to see if they can guess the route!) after having done the northern route and the southern then central route on previous trips. We got back to Washington and are about to have another baby, and oh yeah... we finally bought a damn house! Shit's crazy.
But the real reason that I don't join the festivities here that often is because most of my work stretches cover the weekend. I work 12-hour night shifts, so that doesn't leave a lot of time for logging in and typing up a bunch of beverages, and to be honest, my beer drinking has dissipated pretty significantly in general over the last few months. But I'm here now! And so are you! Huzzah!
I was supposed to be at work right now. But apparently we waaaay overhired on the unit and instead of precepting, instead I got a 'mandatory no-pay' which is where we're overstaffed enough that the rotate through telling people that we're overstaffed and they shouldn't come in. I'm not 100% sure how that jibes with out contract, but... it happens from time to time. At least i get to spend more time with my family, so that's good, I suppose.
Enough intro rambling bullshit, on to the beer:

I've always had a curiosity for more... 'out there' traditional and/or regional styles. I wish I'd taken more advantage that run that... was it Dogfish Head that did them? Where they'd brew extinct/traditional styles from around teh globe? I just love seeing how this same tradition popped up and was influenced by local history in different places and times has always fascinated me. All that to say, Sahti is a style that I've long been curious about, and to be honest, I thought I had taken the plunge on previously, but apparently not. THough that's honestly largely probably due to availability. It's not one you see very often. But I did see one at the store last week! And I bought it! And tonight, since I am home instead of working, and as a flimsy thin excuse, since the Kraken drafted a Fin (who has been playing locally anyway!) in the NHL draft today, I decided to krak into it, as it were. Then I realized it was Saturday and I could join you lovely folks!!

    Propolis - Sahti

This was not a gusher. But it DOES have a very exuberant head, even with a pretty mild pour. Once it settled in, it still left a decent rocky pile of foam, and has been leaving lovely lacing down the glass as I drink. The body is completely opaque and a medium light brown that almost has orange-ish highlights... kind of reminds me of medium shade leather.

The nose is the highlight here if I'm being honest. When I poured the glass, then set it aside and started typing out my review, the high notes of sweet floral and light herbal character reached my face even from off to the side of hte table. Picking up the glass and digging in a bit more those lighter higher notes are completely overwhelmed by the deeper earthier notes. Grainy notes. Some woody notes. Maybe some lightly sweet... caramel? Honey? Somewhere in that range, but a very light touch, and really just to serve as the grout to connect the other characters. The spicy grains take the forefront. There's also a touch of really deep dank weed hiding under the layers of leaves as well. But it's mostly the toasty spicy grains.

Flavour is harder to parse out individual characteristics. Toasty grainy malts for sure. Some herbal bitterness (but not specifically juniper. I wanted specifically juniper!). Some general earthiness. Some tart/sour that is probably the wheat, but could also be influenced by the hops, depending on what varietals they used. That same light honey/caramel sweetness that seems to serve mostly just to kind of bridge between and smoothe the edges of everything else.

Decent pop of carbonation, and a fin(n)ish that is that tart character (wheat? hops? yeast?) and some herbal bitterness (hops? juniper?).
It's not going to become my everyday go to or anything, but it's solidly enjoyable and I'm glad to have tried it. By my limited understanding, it sounds like it's not necessarily the most traditional approach to the style, so I'm curious to try some more examples thereof to try and triangulate in on what the qualia of sahti truly is, but it's a good jumping off point and has piqued my curiosity for more.

    Kippis!
