Poured a355ml can into a pilsner glass. A one finger white head on a hazy yellow. The head diminishes to a thin layer. Some lace rings.

Herbal and fruit notes in the nose.

Coriander followed by citrus. A malt finish. Some salt. Very slightly sour.

A medium light body and light carbonation.

Overall a fine Gose. An interesting flavour profile. Well worth a try.

Poured from a 12 ounce can dated March 1, the body is a hazy gold with two fingers of white foamy head. Good lacing.

Hoppy pine taste and nose that leans sweet. Aroma also carries that sweet malty flavor though it is not as forward in the taste. Bitterness appears mid swallow and lingers upon a drying finish.

Mouthfeel is average with good carbonation.

Another solid beer from 3 Floyd's that is a tad sweet for my tastes , but certainly is a solid drinker.

@scott451 do you know how Unibroue dates their cans by any chance since I’m assuming you’re quite familiar with them. Some cans just came in here locally but I feel like I looked and couldn’t decipher their age that easily.

Opaque, banana yellow body crowned with a thick, creamy, sticky, white head, long-lasting; spidery sheets of foam work their way down the glass. Notes of papaya, peach, red grapefruit, and citrus in the nose. Sharp, acidic, tangy flavors; grapefruit and tart lemon primarily; decent bitterness balance; a pinch of oat-like substrata in the taste. Medium-heavy mouthfeel with a velvet like density; acidic bite; juicy.

This is a mighty fine hazy double India pale ale. At just a month old, I can't judge it from a fresher perspective, but I likes what I drinks. It truly has an outstanding appearance and an alluring aroma. The taste and mouthfeel aspects also are aboveboard in character. Trillium is not regularly distributed in my area, but when it is, it's a treat. This beer is a fine example of this.

At Spiteful Brewing for my New Beer Sunday #1010. This is a favorite brewery of mine since I started coming here early in my beer journey.

Starting with a German Pilsner. I submitted the beer notes and change from Czech to German Pilsner consistent with the Brewery’ designation.

Full review linked above. This features a bitter dry overall take Spiteful is known for. The carbonation was the overwhelming aspect of this offering and not a lot to hold my interest beyond the look and aroma. I enjoy most offerings here across most styles, but I will seek other offerings next visit.

Two more new to me offerings which is somewhat rare in my visits here, will follow up shortly with at least one more.

Very juicy looking beer overall. Murky, hazy looking. The head is a 2 finger white head that looks frothy and fluffy. The head retention is great, and there's some awesome clingy lacing on the glass.
The aroma is full of juicy notes. I get a good hit of pineapple off it.
Taste - it is tasting just like pineapple juice. Slightly earthy pineapple juice. There's a building bitterness from the hops on the backside.
Sticky feeling bitterness. Decent bodied. Somewhat soft.
Tasty beer overall. Great to try this one.

Clear, medium copper color pour; thick, frothy head, white and lingering; speckles the glass with gossamer lattices of foam. Alluring notes of rhubarb, cherry, strawberry; spicy apple pie. The taste brings thoughts of doppelbock primarily; fruity esters and phenol bitterness abounds. Medium-heavy body; lightly sticky residual sugars cling to the palate; somewhat flat.

The bottle 'popped' upon opening, indicating strong carbonation, but with no overflow. And the intriguing journey began from there. Any beer that pegs itself as an experimental beer - a blend of helles, rauchbier, weizen, and doppelbock - has promise for good or ill. The looks are fantastic and the smell immensely unique and appealing. The taste is an interesting meld of doppelbock with a vague sense of a helles lager; no real smoked beer flavor comes through. The bottle states the beer "ages gracefully up to 1 year", so this is likely past its prime. Still, an interesting beer.

Good Sunday afternoon, New Beer Swiggers and commentators. An unpleasantly yucky, tropical humidity has given way to much needed rain as I drink some new beers in the dry, cool basement bar. Deep Dive is a brand new TIPA from District 96 Beer Factory, one of my very favorite brewers of hazies. It has an imaginative hop bill of Enigma, Pacific Jade, and Citra.

Reviewed 4 days after can release. It's a turbid, muddy orange with over a finger cap of milk-white foam and thick, sudsy lacing. The fragrant smell includes pineapple, lemon, and stone fruit. The taste is pineapple-forward but it's not as sweet as I expected. Rather, it's almost tart with additional notes of lemon zest and grapefruit. and I'm also tasting some earthy pepper and spice from the Pacific Jade hops. As it warms in the glass I notice some red berry sweetness and dry pinot gris from the Enigma. It's an intriguing combination of tastes. As expected from D96 the mouth feel is super plush and creamy and the 10.5% ABV is remarkably well-hidden; it drinks very easily. Overall, I like Deep Dive. I'm conditioned to expect the sweet snake fruit in a D96 Imperial IPA but this one is surprisingly refreshing. I can't agree with the brewery's statement that it drinks like a "pineapple piña colada smoothie." I suspect I'll finish this pack over the 4th of July holiday.

Good afternoon, Weekenders and NBS devotees!

I've got not one, not two, but three reviews for you today: one from earlier today (I actually finished my last sip just moments ago, since my partner had to bail and gave me the bulk of her pour), one from yesterday morning, and a bonus review (but no pic) from Friday.

Let's get to it, starting with today:

Hill Farmstead The Order of Things 01 - blended barrel aged imperial stout

From the description: "four selections...each aged between 1.5 and 2 years in Bourbon barrels: Beyond Good and Evil, Genealogy of Morals, Barrel-Aged Everett, and Damon ... They then rested in freshly emptied barrels that held Rye Whiskey from WhistlePig Whiskey."

    Well, damn.

Hill Farmstead seems to have almost been forgotten nowadays, or dismissed as over-hyped. That would be a mistake. They still make absolutely world-class beers.

Now, in terms of stouts, I don't normally put them up there with the absolute best-of-the-best (although their porter Everett is my favorite of all time in the style), but there's no question that they know how to brew, curate, and blend incredible beers.

The Order of Things 01 (from now on TOOT1) is a magnificent blended BA stout. Is it the absolute best I've ever had? No ... but not by much. Everything comes together wonderfully. Even if I were more familiar with each of the base beers, I doubt I would be able to pick out what each individually imparts to the whole. Instead, it's a seamless blend - which, giving credit to the wine-making world, is exactly the goal. (See also: Firestone Walker's anniversary series.)

This is just damn, damn, damn good, and it has me even more excited than I already was for the TOOT2 and TOOT3 bottles that I have in the cellar.

    Next up, from yesterday's brunch-for-six:

    Founders KBS Chocolate Espresso

Let's get this out of the way: OG KBS is a legendary, pioneering beer. No variant of KBS will ever have that same kind of uniqueness, freshness, mind-blowing what the hell is this factor that KBS brought to the scene ...

... but at the same time, some of the KBS variants are, frankly, more drinkable and rewarding experiences. I'm not sure this one reaches that mark, but it might - and I'm not going to rue "having" to go through a few more bottles to settle upon my conclusion.

This beer is just as rich and deep as you'd expect, but it still carries tons of bourbon, and even a bit of the OG KBS harshness (I'm of the opinion that KBS is best on tap or with some age). Bourbon, coffee, and chocolate aren't afraid to be a three-star show here. Nothing overpowers or outshines the other.

    Really nice KBS variant.

    https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/1199/691087/?ba=Roguer#lists
    4.30 / -0.2% (3rd full review out of 9 total ratings)

And finally, a bonus review, since it technically came from outside the NBW window: Hill Farmstead Civil Disobedience 37, a blended wild ale:

    https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/22511/690731/?ba=Roguer#lists
    4.61 / +6.5% (1st full review out of 5 total ratings)

Once again, I'll go to the notes real quick: "This, the thirty-seventh entry in our blended barrel-aged Farmstead ale collection, spans more than five years and is comprised of wine barrel-aged Anna from late winter 2019, Wheat Blanc from late spring 2019 and a few additional selected threads from late 2018. The barrel lineage for this assembly includes Sarrasin, Works of Love, Sante Adairius Rustic Ales, Flora, Ann and Art. Its unhurried journey from brew day to assembly to glass traverses nearly four years of conditioning in the bottle prior to release."

    As for my notes?

    Damn. Damn. Daaaaaaaamn.

I live 25 minutes away from Fox Farm, and they make some of the finest farmhouse ales in North America, in my opinion.

When Hill Farmstead is on their game, they make some of the finest farmhouse ales on the planet. They're different from, but no worse than, Drie Fonteinen and Cantillon. They're that damn good.

CD37 is perhaps not even HF at their best, but it's not far off.

Despite the incredible complexity and funk, the softness and delicacy of the base beers still shine through. HF can put out a non-funky, non-sour farmhouse ale that is easily one of the best liquids you have ever consumed, but they also have the ability to take that same beer and turn it into something else - without ever losing its character, its soul.

I really wish I had more of this - not to age (it's already seen 4 years in the bottle, and the oldest vintages making the blend date back 6 years), but just to enjoy.

I guess I'll have to settle with more Fox Farm instead.

    Cheers, Weekenders!

Sunday afternoon beers at Great Heights Brewing...yay

La Jolla, called a West Coast Pils. Style here is an India Pale Lager (IPL). Hard to argue with that. 5.8% ABV.

Pours a crystal clear pale yellow color. A white head forms, and rises to about a finger. Light lace is left behind. This has impressive clarity.
Aroma of melon, berry, and fruity. Pine resin, dank and lightly grassy in the nose. Enjoyable for an IPA.
Taste wise, like the nose, lots of fruity characteristics. Melon, and berry specifically. Which creates a fruity sweetness, mixed with pine and grassy flavors. Bitterness lingers on. Nothing wrong at all here, for an IPA.
A medium body and moderate carbonation. This is sticky, resiny, and soapy. Which needs to be cleaner and drier for my lager tastes. Not hard to drink at all, just don't call it a lager.

This is a well made IPA. Though I'm looking for a much crisper, cleaner, drier bite. While I have had so called "IPLs" before, and even ones that I have enjoyed. This is why I don't usually gravitate towards the style. If the brewer didn't say this was a lager, no way at all would anybody even thing that. To be fair, this is very enjoyable in the land of the IPA, but call a spade a spade.

    Overall score, 3.59, a solid B
If I was to judge this disregarding the "lager" label, then probably more a high B+

Yesterday, I visited Round Table Brewery in Garnerville (Rockland County), New York for the first time, and I was impressed by the beer and the staff. Round Table has a year-round, Coffee Imperial Stout called Dark Necessities, which I liked. The brewery had two barrel-aged variants in bottles and I bought one of each. Natural Necessities - The Natural, it a very coffee-forward, BA version which I'm really enjoying.

No date on bottle. I suspect it's from late 2023. Poured at 64°. It's nearly ink black with a frothy, light khaki-colored head that dissipated quickly. It has a great smell with lots of freshly-brewed coffee, chocolate, caramel, roasted malt, and nutty char. The coffee is fresh and acidic. It would do any Jersey diner proud. The chocolate is sweeter than in the base Dark Necessities and there is also a hint of vanilla/caramel sweetness. The malt base beneath is dry and bitter with some charred nuts. There is also an intriguing hint of dark fruit, which I really like. The barrel influence is very subtle; it's noticeable but doesn't distract from the other flavors. The mouth feel is rather thin, the carbonation level is appropriate, and it's very drinkable at 8.5% ABV. I like that Round Table didn't go too big on the alcohol. Overall, The Natural is a very good coffee-forward BA Stout. I prefer it to the base stout and I will buy more bottles next time if they are available.

Again, a very juicy looking beer here. Hazy, murky light pineapple color. The head is a 2 finger white color. Very fluffy and frothy looking. There's great head retention and I'm really liking the sticky looking lacing.
Nose is tropical smelling from the hops. I get an earthy pineapple aroma here. There's a hint of grapefruit also.
Taste - well, this is a lot lighter in flavor and sweeter than the nose let on. The front is a sweet mango, that I didn't really get on the nose. I'm getting some pineapple that hits on the backside. This pineapple adds a good bitterness to this beer. Very faint grapefruit also hits with the pineapple.
Body is not as thick as I expected. Somewhat thin for an 8% beer.
Interesting beer, but probably the weakest from the "city" series. It's not bad, just lacking.

I will have another beer today, but it won't be an IPA. I'm IPAed out. Cheers!!!
