Same as yesterday, watching golf and drinking beer. My new beer for today is Radler, from von Trapp Brewing.
This beer is a hazy orange color. There is a large white head that disappears quickly. No lace.
Grapefruit aroma. Very much so. Some sweetness.
Grapefruit, grapefruit rind taste. The rind taste lingers. A touch of honey.
Light-bodied. I like how the rind taste stayed around.

    Good afternoon NBW
This will be third new beer that I have to give credit to the AAL tasting for sending my way. I ran out of AALs and ran to my nearest liquor store that never had any decent craft, and found this and two Hoppin Frog stouts. I guess I'll have to add it to my rounds. Worse thing that can happen is I walk out with a fresh, cold single of malt liquor...
    On to today's beer
    [IMG]
    GL Bourbon Barrel Rye
16oz can stamped 09.04.11 2024 4BT4RHHD1 (whatever that means) poured into a Spiegelau stout glass at fridge temp 11.6% ABV per label. The beer pours bright, very dark amber with mahogany highlights and light khaki head. The head recedes to a thin ring and single layer of bubbles. Slight spotty lacing. The aroma is mild with sweet caramel, vanilla, oak and rye. The taste is semisweet caramel leading to rye, then vanilla, tannins and barrel with slight bourbon on the finish. Moderate bitterness, but the experience leans sweet. The feel is medium plus bodied with just less that average carbonation and a semi dry finish. The alcohol is warming, but not hot or obnoxious. Overall, good beer. I'm more disappointed in the lack of rye than the lack of bourbon, but that's personal preference and not a knock on an enjoyable beer.
    Cheers all!

500mL bottle (packaged 7/9/2024) into a tulip. Pours a clear lemon yellow with a 1-finger sudsy white head.

Aroma is bright clean citrusy hops—grapefruit and pine. A touch of dank cannabis as it warms.

Taste is a blend of neutral, subtly biscuity/grainy pale/pilsner malt and lemon zest/grapefruit rind. Excellent balance between the malt and hops.

Mouthfeel is clean and crisp, medium body, super drinkable and refreshing.

Overall an outstanding IPA worthy of the Pliny name. This beer has my vote!

Is Russian River distributing their hoppy stuff to WA now too? I know they had been sending cans of stuff since I got a surprise box from @snaotheus with Velvet Glow and STS. Pretty cool if they are sending you Pliny, etc. now too.

Ordered this from the kiosk at Charlton without reading the description. Probably would not have purchased it if I had known it had pineapple puree in it. Nothing against pineapple, I just don't like fruit additives out of principle. Turns out to be pretty good though.
Having said that, I think I let my bias sneak through in the review. I have another can in the fridge, I will revisit it and my review later this week.

Poured from a 16oz can dated 7/4/2024. I guess they were not only open to customers on the Independence Day, but working in the brewery also. Drank from a nonic, poured at fridge temp. Purchased 7/18 at Charlton.
I may be biased by the label description, but the body looks like pineapple puree. There is barely a single finger white head on this despite an aggressive pour, but it laces well in sheets after fading quickly to a ring.
Maybe my sense of smell is off today, but the aroma is subdued. I can get pineapple, but I really have to try, and again may be biased by the label description.
The taste is very similar to just plain Green. Yes there is more pineapple for sure. A little bit of a hop bite comes in on the finish but not as much as standard Green.
Mouthfeel is Tree House NEIPA-esc (if you know, you know). Carbonation is slightly over what I think it should be.
Nice variation on Green if you like fruit puree additions.

Clear, soft golden body; dense, slow-rising carbonation; volcano-shaped head, white and creamy textured. Spicy and pungent aroma; faint hints of mint and pine resin. Hop-forward flavors; earthy spices and pine resin; mild cracker malt flavor; lingering hop bitterness. Medium body; crisp with an overall dry finish.

La Cumbre's 'Project Dank' beers bring reliability and tasty treats to lovers of classic west coast-styled India pale ales. This edition really lasers in on the hop flavor and bitterness. Clean and crisp, nice balance and complexity delivers the IPA goods.

A first time beer from a 1st time Brewery, Montauk Ocean Series Imperial IPA 9% ABV from Montauk Brewing in Montauk NY. Had a few cans of this at a picnic yesterday. Was very pleasantly surprised by how good it is. It pours golden pale with a thick head. Nice but mild aroma of fruit. The taste is a perfect balance of fruit and malt. The mouthfeel is full finish is dry. Overall an excellent Imperial IPA to bad one can only get it on Long Island.

Good Sunday afternoon, New Beer Samplers and commentators. Several days ago, Mrs. Mac and I returned from a trip to Columbia Missouri with a cooler full of beer. Today, I'm reviewing two of the them. The first is Cooper's Landing, an American IPA made by Bur Oak Brewing Company in Columbia. It's named for an iconic location along the Missouri River, which includes a marina (the only boat fuel station on the Missouri River between St. Louis and Kansas City) and a restaurant/store featuring BBQ and cold local beer in cans. The venue also includes an RV campground and an outdoor stage for live performances of roots and blues, folk, jazz, and rock ‘n’ roll. It's a great spot to sit along the river and drink some beers.

I bought a pack of Cooper's Landing at a grocery store in Columbia. Unfortunately, the cans are not dated and I suspect they aren't very fresh, which is a shame because I enjoy this "southeastern," malty, bitter style. I wish I were tasting more citrus but honestly this brew is better than I anticipated.

Its color is a pretty, honey-amber and it sports a full finger cap of fluffy, milk-white foam with a thick film of lacing. Its nose is subdued; mostly malts with some scents of pine resin. The taste is earthy and bitter with burnt malt and charred nuts. There is little sweetness - either caramel or fruit - but a strong pine sap presence. This ale has a good mouth feel: reasonably creamy with appropriate carbonation, and it's very drinkable at 5.6% ABV.

    3.73/5 rDev -2.4%
    look: 4 | smell: 3.5 | taste: 3.75 | feel: 4 | overall: 3.75

Parting notes: I'd be happy crushing a few of these while watching the Missouri River flow by and listening to good live tunes. Next time I visit Columbia I'll make it a point to stop at Bur Oak Brewing and try this ale on draught.

    Chardonnay Cask Saison

L- Nice golden transparent amber color with nice soft finely bubbled off light cream colored foam. Light lace that fades rather quickly – 4.0

N- When first poured I occasionally get a whiff of coconut which is not uncommon with some oak barrel aged chards. Nice apple, light yeast and wood notes. Maybe a bit of a peachy note and my impressionable mind says maybe a bit of chardonnay grape. 4.25

T- The nose notes follow through on tasting with a mild apple (white grape, perhaps) , peach, nectarine like tang and a nicely done wood note. More restrained in saison tang as compared with Tank 7 seeming more refined and drier with a sophisticated tannic vibe from the wine barrel. No bitterness since not much hop presence and the 9.5% is hidden well. Really well done and the closest beer ever to a possible Champaign comparison. 4.75

F- Body is medium with very fine effervescence and a wonderful mouth feel. Less foamy and “cloudy feeling” than Tank 7 and more mature and refined as well as drier finish than Tank. Still, not astringent, just well balanced. 4.75

O- As well experienced oenophile, this really floats my boat, so keep that bias in mind. This is a superbly balanced Saison with a wonderful twist, the nicely balanced and flavored chardonnay wood. It was a sipper on my first bottle and now that I have enjoyed the first one this review beer is even more enjoyable. Probably one of the highest scores I have given a beer along with Trappistes Rochefort 10. 4.75

Social Project Brewing Time to Pretend Double Hazy IPA w/Peacherine, Riwaka & Vic Secret Hops, 8.3% ABV; 4.22 overall

Pours a very hazy gold with a thumb of cream-colored head. Good head retention & even better lacing

    S: Tropical fruit & melons

T: Tangerine, green melon, dryness & grapefruit up front. Green melons, peach, white grapes & pomelo as this beer warms up. Dryness, pink grapefruit, white gapes & green melon in the finish, a little peach and lime too

MF: Medium body, fairly creamy carbonation, nice balance

A solid take on the style but not as good as their upper tier releases. Super easy to drink

Really tasty stuff. Whenever I’m in town I’ll try grab a 4 pack. I swear it used to be listed at a higher abv but it drinks the same to me so perhaps not.

Floral, spicy, hint of sweet malt sugar. Very clean and tidy. l

It's always Stout season in MacMalt's Elbow Room. Next up is another, but very different, brew from Columbia, MO: Rocky Road, a BA Imperial Stout from Broadway Brewery. One week ago tonight we had a great dinner there. I had an excellent panko-crusted fried Walleye, which I paired with two IPAs that were okay but not special. I decided not to buy cans but was intrigued by the bottled offerings. My son-in-law, whose knowledge of beer I respect (I'll recruit him to BA eventually) bought me bottles of this Stout and the English Barleywine, which I look forward to drinking. Thank you, David.

Poured at 59°. It's very nearly black in color with a thin, light mocha-colored head that dissipated rapidly. It has a very nice nose: roasted malt, chocolate, vanilla, nuts, and subtle but noticeable whiskey. The taste is beyond my expectation. It's much less sweet than I anticipated. The cocoa is toned-down and I'm tasting acidic coffee, sweetened by vanilla bean and lactose. The walnuts are well-charred and bitter. The whiskey notes are strong but don't overwhelm the other flavors. It's nicely balanced and quite mellow. The brewery calls this a "pastry stout" but I think that does it a disservice. The mouth feel is plush and viscous with low/moderate carbonation, and the 15% ABV is remarkably well-hidden. It doesn't drink boozy. Overall, Rocky Road is a first rate BA Imperial Stout.

I’ve been away from this forum a while. Busy times….

I had a rare free afternoon today and headed to my favourite local brewery to have some currywurst and a pilsner.

This is Godspeed House Pils. They have had it for a while now but I haven’t had a chance to drop by to try it.

Exciting times at the brewery. They re-pitched their Urquel barrels yesterday so a new batch of pitch-lined Sklepník will be out in the not too distant future. Can’t wait to load up on the best beer brewed in Canada.

They are also having a seventh anniversary celebration next weekend with seven collaboration beers made with Japanese breweries. Bim, the head brewer spent time brewing in Japan after leaving Dieu de Ciel! I’m hoping to make it back for that.

I’ve a little time for a quick review before I collect my daughter from a play-date.

Bright copper pour with a nice creamy head that stays around a while.

Bready, floral notes on the nose.

Taste follows closely. Biscuit, broad floral and grassy flavours. A hint of verbena in the background.

Nice body with a crisp finish.

This is a great beer. It’s available on Sundays in .5l mugs in either traditional or milko pours.

    Cheers!

Here is the Instagram post of with the collaboration partners for next week.
