No debt here sir, a BA I'm a fan of named @beergoot asked me to help him out and all it took me was 15 minutes. Hope you all enjoyed your debauchery and camaraderie last weekend!

Dan (@DIM ) - how are things? I haven't seen any barleywines being consumed recently. Should I send you a box?

I'm enjoying a 2019 Maja from Hair of the Dog. It's great, but it definitely isn't as good as it was fresh. Somewhat odd for HotD as their beers rarely fall off in 5 years. Drink them if you got them!

Reaching back a bit, I immensely enjoyed a North Coast old stock ale almost immediately after hitting the brakes on 6 hours of hauling a 34’ trailer in torrential rain and nonstop winds. Picture didn’t survive but I’ll remember how much that hit the spot for a long time.

    Also recently,

This was a fine post-beach beer but looking forward to another bout with one.

It’s summer as fuck and I don’t think it unsmoothed this at all.

Hey Tim! Got back from vacation last week and we were down with a stomach bug for a few days after. Feeling better now but no urge for a beer yet. Still plenty in the cellar, no need for a box lol

No barleywine to be had, but St. Croix was awesome.

The top pic was at the end of a 3 mile hike to some tide pools just past the rocky outcropping in the background. Thousands of hermit crabs in the jungle on the way, the kids were in heaven!

The other pic is Isaac Bay, only about a mile hike and in the 7 hours we were there we saw 4 other people.

    Been a long while...back with a 2018 Doggie Claws

I bought some of these off the shelf when they were already a few years old, so the aging conditions weren't ideal. This is tasting just fine right now though

I left the dregs in the bottle, so after the chill haze faded the clarity was fine. Nose is bursting with apricots and caramel primarily, along with some gentle booze and light apple pie spice.

Tastes as the smell suggests. Nice balance here, just enough heat and tickle of bitterness at the back end to keep the sweetness in check.

Not my favorite vintage, but this is quite nice and I'm glad I have another to revisit down the line.

Public service announcement for the brewery, Hair of the Dog still has a lot of vintages available online (plus Don!) and they ship pretty much anywhere in the country.

Nice. That was a really good year. You enjoying it? It's dark enough to be a stout...

SP / Hair of the Dog collab ‘For Alan’

the SP component is an english barleywine so i guess this qualified for this thread. this was solid. not much to look at (super light for a SP dark beer) but the nose, taste and mouthfeel more than made up for it. lots of bourbon, oak, leather, dark fruits and light chocolate and caramel. tastes slightly aged and oxides yet seems to have some aging potential from what i could gather. cheers!!

i believe this is the best Burial BA beer i have had to date. All That you Desire But Only For A Moment is a wonderful ABW cuvee released about a year ago. i am getting a nice dose of dark fruits and some toffee while the cuvee blending lends a deft touch of vanilla and cocoa, finishing very balanced with a nice warming heat with each sip.
    Cheers!

@CarolinaCardinals have you had many of DSSOLVR’s beers, and if so, are they anything special? It was disappointing that they opened late, after our last trip to Asheville.

Just curious, because the one I had was part of a shared 4-pack with a friend who bought some back from their trip a couple years ago.

Cross post from WBAYDN, I visited the brewery in March of this year and had this on tap. It was excellent, IMHO, so I brought some home, and it is still excellent, with lots of stone fruit, toffee, and some wheat bread. I could drink this for DAYS.

I have only one DSSOLVR brew, a WCIPA. I thought it was good but not a WOW beer. Someday i will get up there to check out the taproom. Looking at their portfolio, i am surprised they have brewed a number of barleywines...this may step up the urgency of the visit!
    Cheers!

NBW cross-post. Jackie O's Pub and Brewery Iron Furnace. A barleywine-style ale brewed with brown sugar and maple syrup, aged in bourbon barrels. Courtesy of @Blogjackets. This is a special beer. I appreciate the opportunity to experience it. I hope @Blogjackets meant for me to have it. I woke up after hosting a bottle share after a bottle share with a lot of beer in my hotel room. I trust it was all left for me as a gift.

Kilt Switch is from 903 in TX. At almost 11% and tasting very barleywiney, I’m claiming definite adjacency or better on this purported scotch ale. As it warmed any differences diminished further. Malty. Caramelly. Delicious.

And wrapping up with Central Waters 4 year bourbon barrel barleywine. This here. Hoo.
