    Hello New Beer Weekend!!!

The virtual bar is once again open for all here to enjoy. Talk about whatever, enjoy the company, but, most important of all: talk about your new beer.

Since it seems to be the season, and here in central Minnesota, it's been in the 60's the past few days, this beer seems to be right at the moment.

We just got this into work today. I've not had it before, and it sounded interesting, so I acquired half a 4 pack with my good friend @Alefflicted .

I'm very impressed with this beer. Lots of roasted caramel malts with a pleasing bitterness on the back. Quite delicious.

Beautiful copper colored pouring beer that's nice and clear. Thick 3 finger off white colored head. The head retention is great. There's some lacing on the glass.
Lots of roasted caramel malt on the nose. Very pleasing.
The flavor starts off with the roasted caramel that I was getting in the nose. The malts linger throughout and are joined on the back with a pleasing bitterness.
    Decent body. Slightly bubbly feeling.
    Quite tasty overall.

I think I have one more in me tonight, and it will be another from this style. Cheers!

Thank you @Victory_Sabre1973 for kicking off the weekend. I've requested Moderators update the thread title to #212.

Trying to get through all the drink fresh beers I received in Sheboygan or purchased before my trip. My selection today is my oldest known new to me drink fresh style beer (3/27), and I will follow up with two drink fresh styles shared by Micah to close out the weekend. This beer was brewed by Roaring Table, in a collaboration with Maplewood Brewing, one of the top selling Chicago breweries that I don't see very often here or WBAYDN. People should check them out as I enjoy several of their beers.

Full review linked above. Bottom line, I like this style and this collaboration is a good selection if you enjoy it as well. Full of flavor, 3.8% ABV, hope they release this in the future beyond this initial collaboration. Also held up well with a March 27 canning date. Will dedicate Saturday and Sunday home beers to the two drink fresh style beers from Wisconsin shared by Micah @GreenBayBA in Sheboygan.

I just opened this and realized it was a new to me beer so thank you @Victory_Sabre1973 for starting new beer weekend
    ...new trail crisp lager.
...close to medium carbonation with a slightly watery feel
...aroma is lemon and lime zest with some mild cracker, grain and grainy bread
...taste is almost identical with citrus, cracker qnd grain with some grainy toast. Really mild almost dry hop element which really compliments well
..overall this is by far the cheapest beer I've purchased in a long time. It isn't world class but I'm really liking it. Its easy to dismiss it but as it warms it gets more than enough going on to keep me happy[IMG]

That is a beautiful beer @Victory_Sabre1973 I assumed you Minnesotans all have Schell’s running through your veins. I enjoyed reading your first tasting of this beer. Thanks for opening us up.

Got at least one new one lurking in the fridge for this weekend.

I prefer to drink under my own Volition!

And today’s beer is Threes Brewing Volition.

Below is how this beer is detailed on the Threes Brewing website:

    “Category: Lager

    Hops: German Tettnanger

    Style: Black Lager

Grains: German Pilsner Malt, German Caramalt, German Roasted Malt

Tasting Notes: Cocoa Krispies, Brown Bread Crust, Sarsaparilla, Dried Flowers, Cozy

    ABV: 4.5%

    Size: 16 oz. Can”

Threes Brewing decided to categorize this beer via a more ‘generic’ term of Black Lager. Of the three Dark Lager styles like Dunkel, Schwarzbier and Czech Dark Lager the description above appears to most closely align with the Czech Dark Lager but to leverage an old English expression: the proof is in the pudding.

    Let’s drink!

Served in my Polish Pilsner glass:

    Appearance:

A dark chestnut brown color with a reddish hue. A tan head.

    Aroma:

There are some aromas of toasted dark bread and a hint of cocoa.

    Taste:

The flavor follows the nose with a pleasing combination of subtle chocolate and toasted dark bread. There is also a hint of Coca-Cola flavor in the background. A low/moderate bitterness.

    Mouthfeel:

A medium body with an off-dry finish.

    Overall:

This beer is very good. I enjoyed drinking this beer.

IMO this beer is a Czech Dark Lager.

    Cheers!

I have had this beer a few times at beer events and I enjoyed the beer for what it is. I told the New Trail employee that I will purchase this beer if I ever find it in the six-pack of 12 ounce can format. I have yet to see this beer in this format. :slight_frown:

    Cheers!

Thank you @Victory_Sabre1973 for kicking us off this weekend!
My first beer (also my last for today) is one I don’t remember who I got it from. Micah gave me a fresh one but this one was from 2016 or 2017 (difficult to tell for sure)
Now that I see it clearly, it looks closer to 2017 than 16. But that’s not important at this point.
You know how stouts usually pour looking like coffee and look black or nearly black (Stout Black) in the glass? This one had the color of a strong Earl Grey tea. I found that very interesting. Still looking black in the glass though.
The flavor has the expected elements of coffee and cacao and a little leather, maybe even some tobacco and it’s all wrapped up in bourbon, which isn’t strong but definitely present.
The feel is lighter than most BBA stouts I have tried, a little thin, but that might be due to the age. I’ll try my “fresh” one from Micah on Monday or Tuesday.
OA, I will reserve judgement until I try it fresh, but I will state that it’s likely best to drink before it gets to 7 years old.
    Cheers all!

Prost to @snaotheus for this Russian River Velvet Glow Pale Dry Lager, 4.75% ABV; 4.3 overall

Pour a bright & effervescent gold with a thumb+ off pearl colored head. Very good head retention & lacing

S: Bready, grassy with floral/perfumy hops

T: Follows the nose, some lemony hop notes & pronounced dryness up front. Grassy with bready sweetness/dryness as this beer warms up, some soapy & floral hops. Finishes dry, sweet & grassy with a kiss of citrus

MF: Medium body, lively carbonation & pretty good balance

Easy to drink, some more hop bitterness would've elevated this

Back-to-back, this is what happens when you start late on a Friday, but just how I roll.

Cheers to @Whyteboar for this NBW BIF#18; LIF brew

Bell's Bourbon Barrel Coffee Expedition Stout, 13.3% ABV; 4.43 overall

Pours an effervescent chestnut/mahogany with a pinky of fast falling mocha colored head. Traces of head retention & lacing, viscous

S: Barrel, coffee, chocolate; booze becomes more pronounced once warmed up

T: Follows the nose, coffee is up front, rich & deep, oaky barrel rawness, & a little vanilla, plus dryness up front. Some leafy & woody hops break through once this beer is warm, some Bourbon bite, then plenty of coffee & a little complementary chocolate & vanilla. Finishes with a nice mix of coffee, bourbon, woody & leafy hops with vanilla & chocolate sweetness

MF: Medium body dialed back carbonation. Body thickens as this beer approaches room temperature, pleasant boozy warming sensation

This has a great mix of flavors that makes it far more drinkable than it should be, well done. Thrilled to have tried this, this will never make it to my market; too damn good

This is Baltas Hefeweizen from Lithuania. I got the glass a couple years ago in nearby Tallinn, Estonia across from the Hopner restaurant and beer place.

Clear amber brew with fluffy, sticky foam in the hand-blown glass. Quite a strong aroma of esters with the spice predominating. Pleasant light body with plenty of spritz. Just a slight sweetness to star, then more dry than typical Hefeweizen. Fairly clean taste with that clove nose and a tangy finish. Quite quaffable, but certainly flavorful. Overall, it's an interesting alternative to the sweeter, spicier versions. From the 500 ml can purchased on the West Coast.

Cervesa Espiga (Spain) ‘Three In One’ TIPA.

Tap hit fresh at Beer Mosaic (bottle shop and taproom) in Toulouse, France. Also brought a couple of cans home.
This triple IPA is a special 10th anniversary collaboration with Beer Mosaic. Hazy, exclusively Mosaic hops. Nice creamy scum tops creamsicle colored brew.
In aroma and taste, there are notes of tropical fruits; mango, white nectarine and citrus. Very silky, long dry finish.
Mouthfeel is medium leaning full, there’s fine prickly carbonation.
Overall, a worthy Anniversary TIPA, one of the best single hop hazies I’ve had in a long time. Well done!

    4.74/5 in the BA DB.

[IMG] Poured into a 16 oz Snulip glass not sure when it was canned, but recent for sure. Pours a very attractive hazy yellow orange with a finger plus sticky white head that leaves thin streaks of lace with excellent retention. 4.75

Aroma is peach, mango, passionfruit, white grapes, and apricot. 4.5

Taste follows peach, mango, passionfruit, white grapes, and apricot. 4.5

Mouthfeel is above average, maybe a tad dry, soft gentle almost creamy carbonation, and at 8.4% ABV big balanced flavor, but easy going down. 4.75

Overall this is a very impressive NEDIPA. I would highly recommend. 4.5 Cheers all.

Going to audible after seeing my remaining beers and the cans with and without dates, and stick with my remaining Roaring Table cans from May to go in sequential order. Have two lagers remaining, this one is called a Caribbean-Style lager, and is a collaboration brewed by Mikerphone. Review linked below, secondary pour picture (the first one was fuzzy).

First rating, perhaps the last if it isn't remade. This is a nice lager with a twist of pineapple and citrus. Wouldn't pick this up regularly due to my preferences, but glad I did pick up and would recommend to someone looking for a lager with a twist. Yeah man.

Final selection for Prime Time will be another lager, though not a collaboration like the other two.

    Cheers!

Hello NBW folks, here's Pryes Lost Moon:

Appearance: Black, tight head with small bubbles.

Smell: Mild roast, coffee, and dark fruit.

Taste: Mild to moderate sweetness, light molasses, mocha sweetness starts taking over, light dark fruit note. Soft feel, medium bodied. Finishes somewhat sweet-mocha/coffee.

Overall: Picked up a single to try, I'm pretty impressed. Nice to see a non-BA impy stout and this one hits the right buttons for me, sweet but not too sweet, not boozy at all for 11%. Tasty stuff!

Last night I stopped at Northbound in Minneapolis. I had there new beer Castro’s Vintage.
It's a Cigar smoked Imperial Brown Ale aged in Red Wine Barrels. This was a good beer. The Brown ale shines and you can taste the Red wine. The smoke is mild and more in the background. It's a good blend of flavors. Well balanced. The ABV is 9.1% and well hidden. Nice looking beer too. It's hard to put a number on this one but I will give it a 4.25+/5.
    Castro’s Vintage - Northbound Smokehouse & Brewpub - Untappd

I also had a pour of Dopplebock. A new and just released batch they claim. Gold metal winner with the last batch. It was good but needed to warm up before the flavors came out.
