    Well, I’m back.
Last time I was in Colorado I picked up a number of beers, including a couple from TRVE. And they were really good.
Poured stout black, okay , maybe a little darker, with a light brown head.
The taste leads with chocolate, followed closely by cacao, some coffee (mild breakfast blend) and a hint of molasses with some dark fruit to round it all out.
There is a touch of bitter, but it is almost an afterthought.
The feel is lightly viscous, it takes some body to carry all that flavor.
OA, the only disappointment with this is it’s not available in Michigan.

Pours a dense, opaque, pastel yellow; extremely thick head, white and dense with a creamy texture. A very unique smell; lightly sweet with lightly toasted oat-like tones and a hard to pin down citrus / spiciness combo; banana and papaya. Complex flavors; citrus pith bitterness with fruity esters reminiscent of banana and cloves; mild oat taste. Heavy mouthfeel; dense, viscous, velvety; big residual sugar presence; heavy juiciness.

Looking back at my regular Haze review, this anniversary version is levels above it. One thing then as now was my note of the unique smell. Then, I was picking up cucumber, this edition brings more of a toasted oat character. Anyway, this anniversary edition is quite unique and appealing. Bold and colorful all around.

This Machine House Dark Mild is from @snaotheus 3.96% ABV; 4.1 overall

Pours an effervescent chestnut with 2+ fingers of whippy mocha colored head. Great lacing & above average head retention

S: Cocoa & roasty notes, nose stays strong through the pour

T: Follows the nose, pretty dry, some woody hop notes & faint stone fruit notes up front. More roastyness, woody hops & dryness as this beer warms up, coffee notes push through. Finishes a little too dry for the style, with cocoa, coffee & woody hops

MF: Medium body, dialed back carbonation

Decent stab at the style, could've used more fruity notes. Dryness didn't help drinkability. Good not great, blind tasting I would've said Stout

That song used to get a lot of air play on one of the local stations until a few years ago. It didn't survive once they switched from oldies to greatest hits.

Ohio meets California in this one. Scoring Discrepancies from Listermann and Bottle Logic. An imperial stout with raspberries and peanut butter added. 12% ABV.

Poured at fridge temp. Pours a super thick black with a thin layer of light brown head. The nose is a big peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Some chocolate on top of the nuts and raspberries, but not getting much else on the nose.

The taste is actually really good. I was expecting a pretty one-dimensional taste, but I actually get more than just the peanut butter and raspberry. Chocolate, molasses, roasted malts, slight black licorice, and brown sugar. Sweet, but not quite too sweet.

Mouthfeel is thick and creamy. Aftertaste is dominated by sweet raspberry. Overall, pretty good for what it is. Definitely as described!

Kryptos from Bottle Logic. An English-style barleywine aged in bourbon with Comoros & Vanuatu vanilla beans, finished with Mostra coffee. 12.4% ABV.

Poured at fridge temp. Pours a dark brown (but not approaching black) with a very thin layer of head. The nose is actually insane. The toffee and bourbon from the barleywine are clearly detectable, but the coffee punches hard too. It's like they are sitting side-by-side holding hands. Neither takes anything away from the other. The coffee smell is incredible. Also getting a nice nutty note, along with strong notes of vanilla and fig. Damn.

The taste is fantastic, but perhaps a slight notch down from the nose. Here the flavors mingle a bit more and perhaps confuse each other at times. The sweet toffee and vanilla arm wrestle the coffee. I almost wish the coffee were a bit more dominant here on the taste, as it was so appealing on the nose. Pretty sweet overall, with some additional dark fruit notes, maple, and candy. Almost a touch of cotton candy.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied with a relatively sweet aftertaste (with a bit of coffee). Nice overall. I haven't had many coffee barleywines, and this one stands out as a great one.

Very clear, golden body; dense yet coarse carbonation, lively; fair head, fat, sudsy appearance; patchy blobs of foam cling to the glass. Classic German pilsner aroma; lightly toasted malt nose with a balanced counterpoint of noble hop scents; light grassiness. Light cereal grain sweetness in the flavor; cracker; light to medium hop bitterness; spicy, herbal hop flavor. Medium body; crisp; lightly sticky and velvety mouthfeel.

I consider this a very solid German pilsner experience. Malt-forward with a rounded sweetness and moderate hop bitterness and bite. A fine, crushable summer lager.

Founder Ultimate Oktoberfest, 9.6% ABV; 4.17 overall

    Mine is 9.6% ABV

Pours an effervescent copper with 2 fingers of cream-colored head. Average-ish head retention & lacing

    S: Hints of barrel, honey

T: Plenty oakyness, toffee, vanilla & honey up front, a Sour Mash twang to it for sure. More toffee, honey, a little bit of leafy hops, dryness & Sour Mash as this beer warms up. Dryness in the finish, along with sweet Sour Mash & some more prominent caramel

MF: Medium body, moderate carbonation, a little warming, a little bit of stickiness

Good for what it is, I've plenty of botched BA Lagers, this is worthy of the Founders Pedigree, drinks fairly easy for the heft. Needed a little more depth for a higher score. I'd buy this again

Yes, I do. Though I don't usually travel with a bottle of ink to refill. For longer trips like this one, I carry some pre-filled cartridges that I can just pop in.

Via @Whyteboar a NBW BIF#18 LIF brew, so happy to get to try this Top 250 beer!

Dark Horse Brewing Co. Plead The 5th BA Russian Imperial Stout, 11.0% ABV; 4.31 overall

Canned version. Pours an effervescent chestnut/mahogany with one finger of rapidly falling mocha colored head. No head retention or lacing

S: Some barrel notes, coffee, some brown sugar notes once warmed up, plus vanilla. Sort of tails off as it warms

T: Follows the nose, oaky dryness, dark chocolate, hints of vanilla & leafy hops, roastyness as well up front. More coffee, Baker's Chocolate, oaky dryness& a little bit of booze smack as this beer warms up, coconut also asserts itself & just a little bit of barrel twang. Finishes with plenty of coffee, dark chocolate, plus good amounts of coconut, vanilla & barrel & a little leafy hop

MF: Medium body, restrained carbonation, warming & a little sticky

This is about as coffee forward as you can get on a BA Imp Stout for me to really enjoy it, all flavors are in harmony. A bit of a sipper to be sure. I do wonder if this is better from the bottle. If everything was as good as the flavor A++ Just an A/A+ instead

I would buy the crap outta this if possible

This whole trip is Poland. We stopped in Amsterdam for a six hour connection and took a cab into the canal area for a waffle, but I don't think I had any beer at all there.

Not limiting myself to "Poland only" beer -- "distribution" is so different here, I'll try anything interesting. Such as the several Cantillons I've found at various establishments.

Glad you liked the Spiteful Alley Time @DoctorZombies . That beer and Haymarket Chicago Tavern Beer are my crushable local craft beers, Spiteful my favorite Chicago brewery at this stage. Also glad you enjoyed the Revolution V. S. O. J. @Danmullens1 and loved the Smores celebration picture. I still need to crack open on from the batch I shared, looking forward to it.

Welcome one and all to New Beer Sunday #1017! Been looking forward to cracking this open this since I put it into the refrigerator. Definately a "Prime Time" selection, though my selection from David yesterday is also worthy of a Sunday. As was the case with the first two beers of the weekend, the beer and brewery are new to me.

Full review linked above. Bottom line, this beer held up really well, hits all my preferred dank IPA high notes, and is sneakly light and easy but feels strong once you are well into the pour. Thank you so much David!

My preliminary plan the next two weekends are three from more and then the four from Todd @cheeseheadinMinneapolis to celebrate the Labour Day four day weekend and end of Summer. Cues Don Henley....

Good morning Sunday new beer drinkers! My new to me breakfast beer comes courtesy of @Danmullens1 - Goose Island’s “Kaleidoscope Cuvée” (2024) a limited release blend of Imperial Stout, Oatmeal Stout, Rye Stout, and BW aged 18-36 months in: 41% bourbon barrels, 30% in rum barrels, 11% in port barrels, and 7% in maple barrels:

BB date 27FEB29. Poured at 56°. Black with thin ruby edges; quick light tan head that tried to vanish before I could take the pic; no cap retention, ring nor lace; thin legs at best on swirl. Bourbon nose; sweet port; boozy retro nasal. Entry is bourbon and chocolate; some rum and red wine flavors mingle; sweet dried plums and raisins; brown sugar; some distilled spirits seep through on backend. Smooth silky feel; medium plus body; not adjuncty; face flushing mouth warmth from 14.7% abv; light carbonation. Overall, a great balance of base and multiple barrels; a pleasure to drink.

    4.0 | 4.5 | 4.75 | 4.5 | 4.75
    Score: 4.62 rDev: +7.2%

When presented with multiple barrel blended beers, I wonder what is the outcome going to be? With Goose Island, I wonder but do not worry. A delicious beer and thank you Dan!

Poured from a 16oz can into a New Belgium Globe Glass

The beer pours a very deep brown (nearly black), when held up to the light you can get just a hint of a mahogany highlight peeking through. A fairly aggressive pour yields about two fingers worth of tan head that slowly recedes into a crown that lasts the remainder of the session and a moderate amount of sticky lacing.

There is alot going on in the aroma; roasted malts, bourbon, caramel, toffee, vanilla, and hints of fig, cherry, and chocolate.

The taste, similar to the aroma, is complex and inviting with roasted malts, bourbon, chocolate (more prevalent in the taste than in the aroma), caramel, vanilla, dark fruit, and a subtle charred flavor that grows as the beer warms. There is also a mild booziness that compliments the big flavors well. Medium/Heavy bodied with moderate carbonation.

Overall, this is a very good beer that plays on the strengths of the base beers that are blended to make up this terrific 10 year celebration beer.

I[IMG] snagged this one today as part of the Heist Series Kettlehead Brewing take on Branch and Blade Brewing Sack Lunch.

Poured into a 16 oz Nordic pint glass canned on 8/13/24. Pours a very dark thick purple with a finger plus of giant pink bubbles, that leaves thick gobs of lace with excellent retention. 5

Aroma is exactly like a PBJ, I don’t get the marshmallow or the vanilla, but is really a treat. 4.75

Taste follows peanut butter and grape jelly for days and nights, but really inviting and wonderful. 5

Mouthfeel is massive and slightly sticky with soft carbonation, a very large body, and at 6% it drinks much larger but is extremely approachable. 4.75

Overall I am rather amazed with this one and I remember having BB version and it didn’t dazzle like this one for me. 4.75 Cheers all.

My new beer for today is Cookie Porter, brewed by High Hops Brewery.
This beer is black, with no head and no lacing.
    Strong chocolate aroma, sweet malt
Chocolate/cocoa dominate the taste. Caramel. Vanilla shows up late, and it lingers.
Medium-bodied. Very sweet. Great dessert beer.
