Good morning NBW, how about some New Glarus Pilsner?
    Appearance: Clear yellow, good head.

    Smell: Mild barley sweetness, grass.

Taste: Nicely balanced mild sweetness with grassy bitterness. A little bit of herbal flavor from the hops as well. Finishes dry, very easy drinker.

Overall: Of course New Glarus makes a fine pilsner. Maybe leans a bit more to the bitter side which is fine by me. Tasty stuff!

A nice selection of beers both local and imports. But as with any beer retailer you really need to check dates. There were a number of beer brands that I was interested in buying but I placed them back on the shelf after seeing either no dates or that they were old (e.g., I wanted to buy Flensburger Pilsner but it was past its date).

I had a pleasant conversation with the fellow working the store and he gave me tips on how to 'navigate' to visit Hill Farmstead since that location lacks cell phone service.

    Cheers!

Received in a trade from @Teethoflions

Billed as a pineapple infused Lichtenhainer. Poured a 473ml can into a pilsner glass. A two finger fine white head on a hazy lemon. Good head retention. The head diminishes to a ring. Some patchy lacing. Canned on May 12 so moderately fresh.

A very slight pineapple in the nose.

Mild beech smoke up front. Subtly fruity, although the promised pineapple is not really apparent in the taste. Slight Gose like salt elements. An almost imperceptible sourness. No noticeable hopping. A mildly fruity finish.

    Light body and moderate carbonation.

A light and refreshing smoked lager.

Browar Fortuna - Czarne Whisky Wood. 500ml bottle served in a wineglass. Dated 19/05/2025. In our room, last night in Poland, packing festivities have begun.

Pours dark brown, small head. Not much carbonation. Smell is char, roasted grains, hint of vanilla and burnt wood.

Taste is sweet, molasses and anise, some vanilla.

Mouthfeel is medium to light. Overall...it's not bad, just a bit too sweet.

More New Glarus, Kid Kolsch this time:
Appearance: Yellow with a good head.

    Smell: Mild grassy aroma.

Taste: Low sweetness start, leads into a fruity mid-palate-light grape/apple. Finishes fruity and grassy. Fizzy mouthfeel.

Overall: NG's Kolsch was in the variety pack that I was given. It's a pretty standard Kolsch style, light and fruity, low bitterness. An easy drinker but not my preferred style.

Pours a rusty copper with little head. Aroma has some faint berries but is a little muted. Dark berries come through more on the tongue. There's plenty of acidity, but well within my admittedly wide tolerance on that front. Decent amount of interesting funk. Pretty light overall.

    Overall a tasty beer.

Good morning, Weekenders! We split a new-to-us imperial stout to kick off the weekend proper:

Hoof Hearted Fitness Freak - 14% ABV imperial stout with coffee, vanilla, and maple syrup

This was delicious, but very sweet. It honestly drank like a sub-10% ABV brew, which was remarkable, but I prefer more thickness in such a beer. Full tasting notes in the review below:

This is a nice looking beer, with the amber / copper color really looking nice held up to the light Nice half inch tan colored head. Aroma has cherry and plenty of tart notes. Taste has more character than the nose, with oak, leather and just the right amount of acidity working well with cherry-ish flavors.

    Tasty beer.

I have to say, this is a nice looking beer. Light straw with excellent clarity and a nice white head. Nose is.....more or less non existent. Some light corn sweetness, but that's about it.

Taste has some light grass and corn / malt sweetness. Super light and easy drinking.

Overall, not going to win any awards, but it sure is going down easily!

I came in +7.1% rDev on this one.

    Thanks, Ryan!

Thanks Jack - I've added it to my list of places to visit! Yes, dates in stores can be problematic at best, although I'll pick up something I reallyreally want if it's not TOO outdated.

Drekker Thrills That Kill NEIPA, 6% ABV. Pours hazy pale yellow with a 3+ finger off-white head that left some lacing. Aroma is diacetyl and citrus. Flavor is citrus, malt, mango, and slight pine. Decent enough mouthfeel, overall excellent.

Trzech Kumpli - Idiota imperial stout

330ml bottle split between three pint glasses. 04488 and 19.05.2022 are stamped on the bottle label.

Pours black with little or no head, a few big bubbles. Smell is boozy, chocolate and roast, maybe a hint of soy.

Taste is burnt bitter roast, coffee and a little vanilla. Tons of dark bitterness. Anise.

Mouthfeel is thick, heavy, a little chalky. Actually very nice straightforward RIS.

Pours slightly hazy pink / dark purple with a smallish head that disappears pretty quickly. Smell is dark plums and grapes, lots of red wine.

Taste is grapes and cotton candy, light tartness, moderately juicy.

Mouthfeel is light, dry, a little velvety. Overall, very nice beer.

Gravel Bottom Craft Brewery & Supply Kevin the Bold imperial stout. Courtesy of @Whyteboar. The look is the universe without light being reflected black, with a nice seven-inch brown foam covering, which diminished before I could capture a picture of it. The smell is black licorice, dark chocolate, raisin, nutmeg, coffee, and cherry. The taste is black licorice, raisin, cocoa, brown bread, almond, and chicory. The mouthfeel is oily, viscous, silky, smooth, and full, with light carbonation. Overall, this is a special imperial stout. @Resistance88 would likely really enjoy this beer. Thank you very much, @Whyteboar!

    Hello New Beer Weekend!!!

My weekend has arrived and it's time for a new beer. This is my last new one that I picked up at Beerclub Brewing in Mora, MN a couple weeks back.
    Anvil Accident - American IPA - 7.2%

Not bad at all. I do like the hint of pine from the hops. Decent tropical character. Great body.

    From a 16oz can dated 7/30/24

This is a mostly clear pouring beer and a dark amber color. When held to the light, golden hues shine through. There's a thick 2 finger white head. Quite frothy looking and it has decent retention with some nice sticky lacing on the glass.
Aroma is somewhat light, but the hop character does shine through. I do get some notes of pine in the aroma.
The flavor does have a pine hit right away from the hops, and is decent. The hops change to more of a sweet tropical with notes of mango and melon. There's a slight bitterness on the backside.
The body is decent feeling. Slightly bubbly. Fairly full.
Not bad at all, and a delicious beer.

Be back in a bit for another new beer.

How about if there is no dates on the cans?

There were three brands of beer from OEC Brewing that I would have liked to purchase (maybe not all three?) but there was zero dates on the bottom of the cans. My philosophy is that no dates = no purchase.

    Cheers!

P.S. I discussed one brand with the store's employee which I really, really wanted but it had no dates (it was Tipopils). He gave me the 'line' that they just got those beers in to which I replied: "Yeah, but how long was that beer in transport and/or sitting at a warehouse(s)?" He just 'replied' with a weird look.

Good afternoon BAs! My new to me beer hails from Seattle’s Fremont Brewing, and if I’m reading my information correctly, this beer is #1 for the oatmeal stout style category on BA - “The Rusty Nail” (2021). An oatmeal stout base with roasted barley, brewer’s licorice and cinnamon bark added, then 15 months aged in 8 to 12 months old bourbon barrels. I can only take cinnamon in small doses and I really don’t like licorice…the ingredients explain why it took me so long to pull the trigger and buy this beer on Tavour, and the bottle has rested for awhile in one of my Florida chillers:

(2021) Release. Poured at 58°. Dark brown mixed bubbles head; poor cap retention with an island of micro dots; solid ring with some sudsy lace; black body with ruby edges; heavy legs on swirl. Bourbon and cinnamon nose; a whiff of roast; mild boozy exhale. Chocolate, bourbon, cinnamon; black licorice on the backend; not particularly sweet, but brown sugar comes to mind. Smooth, medium plus full feel; light carbonation; some warmth in mouth from 12.3% abv; not sticky nor gooey - totally poundable. Overall, very enjoyable; layers of flavors from base and barrel; chocolate and bourbon ride in the front seat, cinnamon and star anise in the back seat and neither asking, “are we there yet?”

    4.5 | 4.25 | 4.75 | 4.5 | 4.75
    Score: 4.59 rDev: + 0.9%

A delicious beer! Notwithstanding my initial misgivings about the cinnamon and licorice, those flavors are mild and compliment the whole. A BBA stout that showcases the bourbon barrel treatment and then blends the adjuncts beautifully. I don’t know how many times I’ve said that I think Fremont is pricey, but oh so worth the money. Another example…

    Cheers weekend beer warriors!

Depends. Usually "No Date" = "No Purchase" unless it's some weird local I'll probably never see again. I also eyeball the thickness of any layers of dust...

Poured from a 12oz can stamped “PKGD071724” to a dimpled mug at fridge temp. Purchased in a 12-pack yesterday from a refrigerated cooler.
The body is light, clear gold. A ¾”, 18mm white head sits on top but fades to a ring rather quickly. Lacing is moderate.
The aroma is musty, caramel and woody.
The taste is similar to the aroma, maybe a little sweeter and hoppier. Despite the sweet front the finish is nicely dry.
The mouthfeel is medium to light and the carbonation reactivates on your tongue.
Overall, a nice clean Festbier. Nothing to complain about, but not a standout.

This is another one I had this week while on our vacation. A nice cool night, hoodie on and all…

    Schilling - Konstantin (Marzen 5%)

Medium colored amber; light chill haze; slightly browned tinges head, little puffy.

Light toasted character on the nose; fresh bread with some rustic character, subtle floral undertones.

Taste is more bread heavy; same light toasted character, hops shift a little into light spiciness on the finish; linger with some earthiness.

Body is light-medium; moderate but tame bitterness, very clean finish; instantly disappears from the palate time for another sip beer.

I used to turn my head towards Schilling because of their prices. However; the last few I’ve had has me happy to splurge occasionally, the feel of their beers really really shines to me; always super clean finish.

Overall just restrained and lighter than your regular marzen; little more drinkable IMO.

    ——————

This will not be my regular marzen this fall as I only got a single. The regular marzen honors this year go to my two six packs of Von Trapp Oktoberfest which is very good IMO.

Happy cooler fall evenings incoming, eventually…
