Good evening, Weekenders! My partner and I shared a big and bold stout this afternoon:

    The Bruery We All Scream

Damn, this was delicious! I'm not a strawberry fan at all, but I didn't find it over the top here, at all. Definitely not a pastry stout. Every single aspect of the beer came to play: strawberry, vanilla, chocolate, bourbon, the massive malt base, and the huge ABV.

So much better than I thought it could be. Additional notes in the review:

Here's unique offering from Albany, VT!

    500 ml. bottle.
    Bottled November 2023.
Bottle conditioned for about 8 months.

Moderate to vigorous pour yields a 1/2 inch light pink head over a deep reddish-purple body with scant lacing.

Nose of Frontenac Noir grapes and a slight bit of earthy funk.

Taste is mostly grape and that is far from a bad thing as this is delicious!

Mouthfeel is rather thin for a beer, but slightly effervescent like a sparkling wine.

Overall, if you have a chance to try this, do not hesitate.

    Cheers!

Burns Family Artisan Ales - The Oracle
    9.5% American barleywine

Body pours brown with a tan head. Minor lacing.

Aroma is caramel and earthy hop. Taste follows nose with a large cascade hop presence. A delicious hop flavor but not an overly bitter one. Good heavy caramel flavor with some oak.

Strong carbonation with good mouthfeel. Finish is slightly sweet with a wee bit of booze.

A very enjoyable example of the style. Thanks to @beergoot for this beer.

Good evening. New Birthday Beer for me. Glad this thread will continue tomorrow for the long weekend! I'll be heading south and grabbing at least a couple of new ones for tomorrow. Today I'm stopping in Portland and enjoying Barrel-Aged Imperial Stout from Machine House. This is aged for 12 months in Westland whiskey barrels, lightly carbonated naturally in the bottle. Comes in at 12.4% ABV.

Poured at cellar temp. Pours a fairly light black with minimal head. The nose is chocolate, coffee, roasted malts, whiskey, and black licorice.

The taste is super smooth. Black licorice, sticky toffee, dark chocolate, roasted malts, burnt wood, coffee grinds, boozy bourbon, and molasses. Super intense and lovely.

The mouthfeel is medium bodied, unlike many stouts these days. The aftertaste is boozy toffee and dark chocolate.

Hawk Moth Brewing 22 Anniversary Blend, 10.6% ABV; 4.45 Overall.

A blend of 30% Old Ale aged in a Moscatel Cask & 70% RIS aged in a Cognac cask for 1 year Finished with blackberries, lactose, vanilla & Contessa Hops

Didn't intend to hide this one so well; at least a year old. This brewery is supposed to open a new location soon but taking their time. Still dropping beers here & there, very randomly.

Pours an effervescent ebony with a sliver of fast falling mocha colored head. Zero head retention & lacing

S: Dark chocolate, prunes/Li Hing Moi & some dark grape notes, Figs & Brandy late

T: Follows the nose, oaky dryness, some vanilla notes, some woody hops up front. Dark chocolate, red wine barrels, oaky dryness, sweet & salty prunes as this beer warms up. Finishes with salted prunes, dark chocolate & sweet & acidic red wine, so decadent

MF: Chewy, restrained carbonation, sticky & warming notes, some acidic notes from the grapes & barrel

Beautiful blended Strong Ale show casing what this does ( did?) best. A beer to savor

Love Direction West Coast Pilsner from Ravenna Brewing in Seattle.

Inviting aroma of ripe melon and citrus peel. Delicious light flavor of green melon with a peppery finish. Sudsy and spritzy for a great mouthfeel. This is among my new favorite Pilsners and another great beer from Ravenna.

So this morning I went on a float down the Flat River between Whites Bridge and Fallesburg Bridge, both covered bridges.
It was a great day for a few hours on the river, most of it spent in silence except for the herons and pileated woodpeckers and many other birds and animals.
Tonight I spent gaming with my son in law and an old friend, it was nice. And it gave me a chance to drink a second from the 4 pack from Duvel:
Triple Hop Citra - I don’t know why I expected citrus flavors, except the name of the hop featured. There weren’t any.
This foamed out as soon as the cap was loosened, making taking it off a messy affair, but it was worth it.
The flavors featured far more west coast piney features and a *hint* of bubble gum. Not sure why that worked but it did, this one, like the earlier one, was far too easy to drink considering the ABV.
My fault, should have stayed with just one.
    Till tomorrow then, Cheers!

[IMG]Pinta Barrel Brewing - Insights, smoked barleywine

330ml bottle served in a tulip. Picked it up at Swiat Piwa in Krakow about a week ago, if I remember correctly. Best Before 31.12.2028.

Pours still, thick, dark brown, a tiny ring of head eventually emerges minutes after a fairly aggressive pour. Smell is charred oak, dates and toffee, walnuts.

Taste is burnt wood and caramel, dates and raisins, tons of wood, molasses, campfire smoke.

Mouthfeel is thick, sticky, chewy. Overall, interesting and good, but not mind blowing.

Well New Beer weekending it is. This is Mellow Submarine, a Baltic Porter from Reverie Brewing, here in Newtown, Connecticut. Always like promoting the home state breweries when in these threads!
This is an 8.3 % ABV brew and im happy to share it with y'all!

    Onto my review:

I am sampling a 16 oz cellar temp can poured into a snifter. There is no date stamp on the can or label.
The beer was purchased at the brewery last fall and has been in my cellar since that purchase.
the beer pours an iced tea brown color with a fluffy khaki colored head foaming up about 3 cm in my glass.
This foam fades to a sturdy surface layer a few minutes after the pour. Light does pass through the glass and I note a mahogany color underneath.
Aroma is some roasted malt and dark chocolate, but overall is kind of mild. I dont get any booziness really either.
First sip reveals a medium body with smooth texture. Very soft and spacious carbonation, slight coating on my palate with each sip.
Flavor is similar to the nose, with roasted notes and a little chocolate. No hop character and not boozy either. Surprisingly easy to drink for a larger ABV.
This is a fine beer and enjoyable, but not a lot of depth to the nose or flavor knocks it back from top tier. Glad I tried it and would drink it again, but wouldnt chase it.

    Hi All,
I enjoyed a few beers at the local homebrew supply, Windsor, in Anaheim< CA>

Love this place. If you com to Bottle Logic, it's right across the street. @snaotheus knows it.

    First up, a solid kölsch.
Sowing the Sun by There Does Not Exist

Pretty kölsch but low head formation thus not much to look for in retention.
Nose is crisp, Noble, herbal and grassy.
Clean, slightly spicy hop presence with a mild fruity note underneath. Dry finish.
Mouthfeel is light, slightly dry on the finish.

    Next up...

Animal Dance Party by Sante Adairius Rustic Ales

Definitely hazy. Muted gold in hue. Abundant fluffy whitehead that's, almost milky, Rises two fingers, settles down to about a half inch. Great retention, firm, but gentle lacing.
Nose pops with tropical notes of Pineapple, lime, zest, grass, and bits of melon.
Flavor definitely rides with all the aforementioned notes, but overall with a generally tropical delivery.
Mouthfeel is both active and fluffy. Solid.

I love Windsor. They always have some unique SoCal offerings but them pull in something more obscure like Tipopils

Breaking my routine to indulge in a night-cap on this extended weekend. While I'm not enjoying it as much as I used to delight in bombers of "Idiot" in the past, I like it more than many of the anniversary Imperial IPAs Coronado has put out over the years. Cheers!

Packaged on 8/7/2024 - enjoyed on 9/1/2024 - poured from a pint can into a snifter.

Clear amber body beneath two fingers of magnolia foam. Rocky/soapy lacing; excellent retention.

Aggressive whole cone hop notes in the nose - herbaceous with notes of pine, grapefruit, and bubblegum.

Potent and bitter palate entry with flavors following the nose. Earthy and well integrated with some lingering candied citrus/ginger notes. Almost syrupy malt backbone outlasts the bitterness and the medium finish never quite dries out. Faint alcohol flavor, though not quite fusel. Citrus and resin return in the aftertaste.

Medium bodied, sticky, faintly oily mouthfeel. Moderate but sufficient carbonation. Warming but not excessively so.

Living up to its name, this is a nice throw-back to the sort of Imperial IPAs that were more popular in the first decade of Coronado's existence (high IBUs, C-hop driven, hefty malt bill with modest attenuation).
