Going back to sleep soon, hope this keeps me in REM mode until I need to wake up later this morning.

Have a release to pick up tomorrow, so need to make room.

    Good and restful night @ChicagoJ

Drinking Leffe Tripel, pairing it soon with a Gorgonzola cheese and naturally a baguette:

Not sure if it is a fair comparison. The Grolsch attempt to a Weißenbock vs the WeihenStephaner Korbinian double Bock.

But let us give it a shot.

German bottle is bigger. Both pour really well. German boast a 7,4% abv and Grolsch only 7,3%.
Grolsch soft gentle marshmellow and roast chestnut notes. Mellow sweetness, slight hints of burnt coffee aftertaste.
Korbinian, sulfur and chlorines in the smell, more wet dogs hair malt, rye, taste is different very round dried fruits, figs, dates, plumps maybe and very creamy mouthfeell.
Today, actually, I tend to like the freshness and tanginess of Grolsch a little bit better. But well, depends maybe on food and snacks and personal preferences of the day.

No clear winner. Both outstanding beers.

Happy Hump Day BAs....kind of a cool, damp and dreary looking day - but Emma and I got out for a walk anyway - the fall colors are really starting to pop around here!

This is one of my favorite pumpkin brews - delish!

From a 16oz can dated 09/04/24, poured into Das Boot.

Clear golden pouring beer. I like how the carbonation rises in the glass upon the toe of the boot. There's a thick 4 finger white head that is very frothy looking and long lasting. There's just a bit of lacing on the glass.
The aroma of this beer has a nice light grain/caramel aroma with a hint of a woody scent that is somewhat earthy.
Taste - The flavor is somewhat light. I get a good cereal grain flavor in this beer. There's an earthy, woody, grassy flavor to this beer. There's a slight, and pleasing bit of bitterness on the backside.
The body is quite bubbly. Clean feeling, Decent fullness.
This is a tasty take on the style.

I just got home from Missouri, which was a fun trip. The Northern Lights were visible in Hermann, which seems crazy. Now it's time to clear out the Oktoberfests.

Ellicottville Brewing Co. -- Mimosa IPA

Golden orange body, mildly cloudy; fair carbonation; outstanding head, white, thick, creamy texture and billowy; sticky rings and sheets of foam inside the glass. Nice sweet malt aroma with a touch of caramel; a bit of overripe tropical fruit. Good flavor; more sweet caramel notes than anything else; very mild hop bitterness; barely perceptible esters with a hint of black pepper. Outstanding mouthfeel; rich; semi-creamy with a nice delicate carbonation raspiness on the palate.

I suspect this may be a relatively old India pale ale. There are vague suggestions of hop flavored fruitiness but they are buried deep within the malt sweetness. There is no denying the great look and mouthfeel, but aroma and flavor don't quite stack up to those elements.

    ----------------------------------------------------------

...likely one of the last beers left from my dearly departed neighbor, fellow military retiree and friend...I still have another Ellicottville IPA to try...

    1) Modist The Time Is Nigh (5.2%): A Festbier from Minnesota aged in oak barrels for flavors of pale Munich malts, some. honey and floral notes with some hints of earthy oak
    versus
    2) Giesenbräu Bier Co. Brau Brau Brau (5.9%): A Festbier from Minnesota with flavors of smooth bread and honey notes. Lightly floral. (Mismatched the two beers blind)

Winner: Modist The Time Is Nigh
Minnesota Festbier Battle. First is The Time Is Nigh from Modist. It's earthy, oaky, and toasted. Dry, bitter, and clean. Outstanding.
Next is Giesenbrau. First try at this one. Smooth bread malts and honey. Standard and very nice.
Modist always nailing the lager game and The Time Is Nigh is drinking extremely well.

Back at it I see. Exxxxxcellent! Sunny breezy & cool here and I've opened the gates to start packing for my trip. I'm gonna hit this brew (last new-to-me in the fridge) and she's a biggie for me anyway. Aged in Laphroaig casks...I'll just put this in my hat and smoke it. Cheers!
